Three of the world’s top tennis players have confirmed their participation in the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2007, due to be held from January 1 to 6 at Khalifa Tennis Complex.

Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia, Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus and Nikolay Davydenko of Russia will be seen in action at the tournament, which is one of the three season-openers of the ATP Tour.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Faleh Al Thani, President of the Qatar Tennis Federation, made the announcement yesterday. The announcement came in the presence of Abdularehman Abduljaleel Abdulghani, Managing Director, AAB, in Doha yesterday.

Defending champion and Roger Federer of Switzerland is yet to confirm his entry, but Sheikh Mohammed said negotiations were on to entice the world No. 1 to Doha.

Federer is a two-time winner of the Qatar Open. Still, even without his presence, the tournament will offer top-class action as world no. 4 Ljubicic, world No. 12 Baghdatis and world No. 3 Davydenko battle it out.

Baghdatis reached a Grand Slam final at the Australian Open this year, while Ljubicic has won three ATP events and reached the semi-finals of the French Open.

During yesterday’s press conference it was also announced that Toyota and Lexus will be the Official Car for the seven-day Qatar Open.

Glad I knew this!

Btw, am I the only person who thinks Qatar is a poor tournament? Normally the standard of play is fairly low as it is the first tourny of the season, and the staduim usually has a bout 80 people in it outof 7500.
