The 21-year-old will join a star-studded field including four-time winner Lleyton Hewitt and world No.2 Rafael Nadal. Tournament director Craig Watson believes that the class in the field should produce some excellent competitive tennis. "To have his name alongside our other stars, Rafael Nadal, Lleyton Hewitt, James Blake and Marcos Baghdatis, adds to the excitement and brilliance of our best ever men's field," Watson said. The inclusion of Berdych will mean that four players from the top 20 will now feature during the tournament. Berdych has produced an excellent string of results during 2006, reaching two ATP Tour finals and breaking into the top 10 in October, before settling into his current position as world No.13. "Tomas has had quite a rise up the world rankings over the last 18 months and we are delighted he has elected to play the Medibank International," Watson said. Berdych has beaten a number of top-ranked players in the past few years including Nadal and Andy Roddick in 2006, and world No.1 Roger Federer at the 2004 Athens Olympics. "I know that Tomas has recorded wins over some of the biggest names in tennis and that would have to put him in strong contention for the title," added Watson. shotgun 11-14-2006, 07:32 PM so both Rafa killahz will be there   LaTenista 11-14-2006, 10:54 PM so both Rafa killahz will be there   :ras: Rafa has beaten Berdych before. shotgun 11-15-2006, 12:07 AM :ras: Rafa has beaten Berdych before.
