Am I the only one who finds Hrbaty somehow pesky and arrogant?

Ok, I could be WRONG about this but I always find that silly little grin and his demeanor annoying. He is playing well but I don't know what is bothering me about him.:o

Anybody else with thoughts or feedback on this?

Hrbaty has been quietly moving through the draw and is currently up a break in the first set of his semi match. There is no way he could have gone all the way without some kind of off-based and totally unnecessary comments.

Uhhh that is not really feedback at all. I am just seeking some people to explain to me why or why not he is annoying. Maybe I am reading him wrong.

i don't find him annoying at all. i think he's one of the hardest working players on tour and deserves to have more success. someone i do find annoying though is Andy Murray. he is arrogance personified and lazy too.

I remember an interview some long time ago and the impression I got was that he's an immature guy. But that was 5 years ago I think.

Having "met" the man before...he is pretty rude and rather arrogant. But hey...so are a lot of people.

Sometimes he cracks a nasty smile when he's playing for whatever reason, but that doesn't bother me. What bothers me about him is the thrash-talking he employs once in a while when he's off-court.

i saw him on an outside court and wimbledon last year playing doubles with michal mertinak. they came back from two sets down and won in five against simon aspelin and todd perry, doubles specialists. i was sitting front row, which on the outside courts is practically right next to the player and he was never arrogant in the slightest. how can anybody say the dominik hrbaty is arrogant, when andy murray is so much more arrogant?

What's Andy Murray got to do with it?

You can interpret arrogance in many ways...all players at times behave arrogantly on court. My experience was off-court as it happens...but I won't go into it.

I don't know if Murray is arrogant, but he does have the haas/safin approach to mid-game pep talks and that can easily rub someone the wrong way.

Same here. That fist pump and shit-eating grin on his face after Haas retired was a bit rude, though. One incident is hardly enough for me to qualify him as pesky/arrogant.

I've always thought Hrbaty was one of the nicest guys on the tour. He works incredibly hard (has the most tremendous work ethic), and although I'm not a particular fan myself, I've heard from many fans that he's always very nice to them and has time for them. On the odd occasion I have met him personally he's always been polite and pleasant (more modest then arrogant in my opinion), and I know that he does an awful lot of charity work for kids back home in Slovakia. This picture was taken in a childrens' cancer hospital last Christmas. I know her likes to keep his privaet life private (nothing wrong with that) and doesn't like to talk much about his family or his long-term girlfriend - but that doesn't make him arrogant in my opinion. No - Dominik's a good guy - bless him

I couldn't say anything about Hrbaty's character because I haven't really seen many matches with him, but I think that the photo in Rosie's post easily qualifies for the funny photo thread. :D

Don't know anything about him off-court but I do know that when I was in Montreal 2005, he went to many of his country buddies matches to support them.

i'm just making the point that dominik hrbaty is in fact a nice guy, who is not arrogant and i thought that whilst on the topic of arrogance i would give an example of someone who is arrogant-andy murray

well you give me a chance to tell my story again! :p

the sweet man once held a door open for me and let me pass first when i had a lot of things in my hands. i was a nobody and wasn't the 'hot' type  i don't think any other top player would be such a gentleman for me and do so with such a happy grin on his face too

it's only one incident yes but i just have to disagree with your impression ;)

I agree. No doubt now. Definitely pesky & arrogant!

Well I saw him buy beers for 10-15 of his fans after supporting and getting him through a tough 5 set match and he waited in line just like everyone else and didn't push to the front. There aren't many players who'd do that.

He has his moments like anyone else, but overall pesky and arrogant aren't words I'd use to describe him.

Along with Moya and Bjorkman. He's been reported to be one of the nicest guys on tour.
