Well done Nikolai! The match was his after breaking twice in the 3rd set, and holding serve comfortably :yeah:

A victory for the more technically correct early ball hitter if not the more talented player. If Robredo wants to challenge the very best he will need to work on his technique particularly his backhand. He needs to hit through the ball more and try to win points rather than waiting for an opponents errors.

Hope that Tommy's calf is better in time for Shanghai. He played some good tennis in the second set and changed his tactics well- so it was a shame that the tear in his calf limited his mobility in the third set.

Congrats to Davydenko for making it to his first Masters final. He deserves it.

Of course, as a Tommy fan, I would have prefered another result, but the only thing that disappoint me is that he couldn't defend his chances at 100% in the 3rd. Congrats to Davy, he really deserves his victory, they fought hard but as Tommy said, he had already spent a lot of time on-court, so that was kinda logic... Davy is a funny guy haha^^ He's cute :)

Anyway, get back on good form for Shanghai Tommybabe :worship:

I keep waiting for him to crack a smile of some sort after he wins matches, but nope none at all. His brother is nice and smiley though. :)

Was that Davydenko's father sitting next to his brother in the box today? If so- he is an attractive older man.

I am not sure. I only noticed it when the french commentators talked about it in the 3rd set. I was thinking that maybe he just had no other shirt left or something.

Hey, Davydenko can be funny! When he was interviewed on court by France 2, he constantly pulled away one of the microphones (one for the TV broadcast and one for the stadium speakers).

It's strange that Davydenko is bald contrary to his father.

Yeah, I thought the same. But his older brother also has more hair than him. Face like both look alike though. Guess they have that face from their mother. ;)

In the end, he just couldn't run on the long rallies, but Davy played really well at this moment, so it might have been different if he had been on great shape, but anyways, it would have been hard for my boy :p

Hey, Davydenko can be funny! When he was interviewed on court by France 2, he pulled away one the microphones (one for the TV broadcast and one for the stadium speakers) several times.
Haha^^ Yeah, cuz Nelson interviewed him first when he was supposed to be interviewed by the speaker of the tourny, so the crowd first booed Nelson, but then Davy answered on the two mikes and handed the mike to Nelson so that the public could hear the questions ! That was good hehe^^

The announcers were saying it was a calf tear- they didn't seem to think it was a cramp. Regardless of what it was- his movement was impeded for sure in the thrid set. Not to take anything away from Davy.

In French? Looked like stereotypical cramping to me the way he has stroking his calf. I got my feed off of nusports(chinese) so i have no idea of anything they had to say.

He had treatment twice during the match and our commentators say it is a tear, but hopefully not a serious one. Tommy did his best though - can't ask for more than that - he fought even when in pain - and congrats to Kolya - I hope he wins the whole thing now too :)

No- it was TTC, which is the Sky Sports feed with John Barrett and Jason Goodall.

Excellent win for Kolya. He was on the verge of choking the match away but he kept his cool. That was his 2nd win over a top 10 player this year, after beating Gaudio at RG.

Robredo played surprisingly well today. He served quite a few aces and tactiaclly he was very smart in the 2nd set. He hit the ball high and deep, forcing Davydenko to generate the power and hit closer to the lines.

I got to admit, Davydenko survided a tough draw. can't imagine Robredo could have won against Ancic or even Tursunov on carpet.. so it's going to be a tough Final for Tommy Haas ;)

well done Davydenko! :yeah:

He came out on fire hitting the ball really well but credit to Robredo who hung in there and recovered from being a break behind in the second set to level and take it.

The pity for Robredo was his calf muscles which seriously inhibited his movement. While Davydenko was clearly the better player in the third set, the match ended on a bit of a lame note. A pity because the third set was shaping up well.

Now take the title Kolya :D

Me, too, lol. I didn't know he was like that. Maybe he was upset with himself for blowing that second set. I half-expected Tommy to win and take the whole thing tomorrow but Nikolay was able to pull himself together in that third set.

BTW, does he ever make a good challenge? I swear he must be a big contributor to the stat that shows players are more often wrong than not.

Please take the title, if only for James' sake.

They both made poor challenges today. I think they each had only one correct challenge.

On the first one Kolya apologized to the crowd since they couldnt hear him.
On the fourth pic he pulls away the mic.
On pics 5 and 6: "So why are you playing so well indoors right now?" Davydenkos reply: "Well, the number 1 and 2 arent playing. :) "

but does he still not have a clothing sponsor? scandalous. That's one of the headlines today in L'Équipe: "J'emmerde Nike!" (= during his press conference, he told Nike to fuck off - or something like that).

The article says his only sponsor is Prince for the rackets. "And I don't care. If people are not interested in me, you have to ask them why. I can put on any outfit, that won't prevent me from winning. [Then the thing with "j'emmerde Nike", I don't know how to translate the exact sentence, but it's an insult and he tells the journalists they can write down what he said.] Nike hasn't been very fair. After the US Open, we asked Adidas, they answered they already have Youzhny. If they prefer to have somebody who makes one good result during the whole year, good for them. I am the one who plays the most, who often plays semi-finals and is on TV. But those firms are stupid!"

Here is the French version since my "translation" wasn't very accurate, as usual:

Maybe we can all take up a collection and sponsor Davy through MTF. Nikolay could wear insults on his shirts tailored to fit his opponents.

Nikolay vs Rafa: I Love Ham
Nikolay vs Fed: Where's the Beef?
