Berdych was horrendous. His backhand was atrocious and forehand not much better.

Berdych started horribly but improved his performance halfway through the first set but too late to save it.

In the 2nd he really started playing more solidly but then in the beginning of the third Hrbaty cut out his errors and Berdych again reverted to the type of play he exhibited in the 1st set. He played a horrible game to lose serve and then had a chance to break back Hrbaty but he blew it :banghead:

Anyway, patchy performance but Hrbaty showed Berdych's weakness in his movement. He really struggled to move around the court. Hrbaty played a very smart mtch particularly in the third set after getting creamed in the 2nd set. Kudos to him.

Pretty sketchy performance by Berdych today. Plays a good 2nd set then start spraying missteps all over the place.

Nice win for Hrbaty though. :)

Well Hrbaty did the obvious thing everyone should do when playing against Berdych - move him around the court.

I'm disappointed since I was expecting a Safin-Berdych SF, now I'm fully supporting Safin. :p

Movement is a minor Berdych. By far the major problems is located in the cavity between the ears.

So often brilliant and some days awful

I could live with that. :D Anyways, either Safin or Haas have to kick Hrbatys ass. ;) I want a Haas/Safin tourney win and only Davydenko should be a threat.

LOL, too funny. ;) I got that name from a tennis instructor who gave up on me after figuring out that I cannot serve to save my life. Berdych, on the other hand, has NO excuse. :p

Berdych will never be a real threat on the tour if he doesn't get his head straight.

Tomas, from what I'm hearing..  I thought he would do better. Consistency is something that can always be improved, though, and I hope to see Berdych pull it togeter in 2007 :D

I'll teach you how to serve? It is like pitching in baseball (except your target is the ball at the apex of he toss, not the catchers mit (and not the service box as many think)).

Serving is easier if you are at least over 6 foot tall as well.

If Dominik isn't having a bad day Berdych's style is a damn good matchup for him. It's quite elementary guys!

LOL, I totally appreciate it. I don't think Sampras himself could help me hit the service box. As for the height thing, I'm barely 5'2', so even standing on a LADDER, I wouldn't be close to six feet tall. :p

Hrbaty has had one of his worst seasons in a while yet somehow makes the SF of Paris

Good on him :yeah:

Terrible, Tomas - Terrible - CONSISTENCY, FFS, you need some consistency and fast. How you can come out and play a great match one day and then look like a bag of shit tied up with string the next?

Clearly you WANT to be Son of Marat.

Well Marat lost today too, and they were the last two to win Paris. Safin could not defend his title last year so in a way the two defending champs lost today

Wonder if Hrbaty will send a thank you card to Nalbandian, whose withdrawal bumped him up to 17th seed and a 1st round bye + an easier quarter as it's turned out.

Hrbaty, while not the most versatile guy out there, can be tricky to play for certain kinds of players. Berdych is a good match up for Hrbaty. Apparently the strategy today was to pull the trigger before Hrbaty could manouver him out of position - it didn't pan out as he went for too much too soon and just made a lot of errors. I would think Hrbaty's superior mobility and fitness are pretty intimidating to a player with suspect footspeed and endurance like Berdych. Also unlike with Nadal you have to be a lot more concerned that Hrbaty will break open the point - his court positioning is better and his strokes are flatter.

Considering they train together quite a lot and it's not like Dom hasn't learnt what he needs to do against Berdych, though I thought he'd have a better chance on a slower surface than this. Just hope he can make the final now.
