James Blake should be sending Davydenko a greeting card and thank him for beating Ancic today. Ancic had to lose for James to even have a slim chance of reaching the Masters Cup. But Haas is stlll a factor Haas can still get to Shanghai if he wins the event. I believe Berdych cannot make the Masters event even if he wins. But if Berdych does win he will be the first alternative or something like that.

The 6-3, 6-3 score looks much more favorable to Ancic compared to the actual match. Heh. Could have easily been 6-1, 6-1.

Davydenko controlled the match all the time. Mario really fought hard, although the score might not show it. Anyway, Blake may open champagne

With Ljubicic and Roddick, the cup is already full up on big servers with limited talent otheriwse. So let's hope not.

Davydenko is an excellent player playing on top of his game. This result should be no surprise to those who watched Davydenko totally dismantle Tursunov.

It's also great to see more people around here acknowledging his results.

Nobody on tour is improving as consistently as he is.

Davydenko is highly underated.

He actually plays near to the baseline, takes the ball early and hits though the ball cleanly rather than brushing across the ball; all qualities of the very best players such as Federer, Sampras and Agassi. If he improved his volley skill more and came to the net more he could be even more dangerous.

Pretty tough to argue when someone keeps winning. Nice job today. :)

Exactly. Kolya can keep up the tempo so well. Thus, even if he doesn't hit with great power, he keeps his opponents in a rush all the time.

I don't agree with you. Davydenko has a very good level when he plays relaxing, but he couldn't win when he plays under press, and I think this marks top 5 or under 5. :wavey:

Personality shapes peoples belief about ability. I agree that it is obviously better to have interesting people at the top of the game but it doesn't actually change them in terms of tennis ability. Davydenko is a very good player, if he smashed rackets and had a good sense of humour people would be saying he was a perfect top 5 player.

Well, Robredo and Blake should feel lucky! If Ancic hasn't injured himself accidently they would still be questionable for Shangai! And I'm sure that Mario just before injury would have beat Davydenko today!

Wishful thinking I'm afraid. Davyenko was simply too good for Ancic.

I know it's a wishfull thinking, but I'm mad because of his injury! Firstly I thought that he will have no chance of qualifying, missing so many big tournaments, and now he was so close!:(

-cough-Safin-cough- :D Don't worry, I love Marat.

But I agree, nice point. Not everyone is big about large amounts of public attention (more than average for a tennis player), and it does not affect a player's ability.
