Jarkko needs to make his physical condition better.

He always gets exhausted in the final set.

Thanks god this horrible match is over, can't believe I watched it :o

Now my girlfriend won't let me watch the good ones, just because these two chokers had to play their rubbish for 3 hours

Jarkko won the points 124-119, but couldn't win the most important ones.

Congrats Tommy :hatoff:

Jarkko was injured last week and couldn't train well before this. He's usually one of the fittest guys on tour, nothing wrong with his physical condition, more to do with mental tiredness imo.

:woohoo: What a long match. I woke up expecting it to be well over, but they'd just started the third set.

That's strange, me too, I often wake up and Robredo is on TV. Usually it's just a little 30mn nap.

Well, he leads Nadal 6:4 4:1 and loses the match.

He leads Robredo 4:2 in the final set in Bastad and loses 4:6.

He leads Robredo today 7:6 *3:2 and loses the match.

Sometimes, he looks patient. Sometimes, he doesn't even let the ball hit the floor.

He has the game, he is smart, he is fit but there's something missing.

He's missing the confidence to beat these top guys, he needs a breakthrough win over one of them and things might be different after that.

After all I think that Jarkko is one of the strongest mental player on ATP circuit. Pretty good match...

Today I woke up late in the 2nd set and I just got the feeling Jarkko did not have the real feeling deep down that he could win. It just looked like he didn't think he could win.

I think it was a good and entertaining match. Shame that Jarkko couldn't win..But great fight from Robredo :hatoff:

Winner Hamburg (clay), semifinal Cincinnati (hard), at least semifinal Paris (carpet)... he deserves to play in Shanghai.

I agree. Jarkko was clearly tired in the 3rd and that affected his serve. Tommy was able to attack Jarkko's weak 2nd serves and Jarkko got really down on himself.

You know, I must be unique. Because I loved the match, I hate it when players hit winners, I love it when they just rally for ages. I like defensive players that hit shot after shot in nice long matches. I get bored by power players.

My favourite women's matches where always Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario v. Conchita Martinez in big long moonball sessions - I love to watch constructed rallies! Thanks Tommy and Jarkko for an absolutely brilliant match - I hope you guys play heaps more.

Not the greatest match to watch but give Robredo credit on changing his serving strategy for the last 2 sets; coming up with winners and smart tactics on the important points. I can't believe though how many unforced errors he had :tape: But the drop shots and some of the volleys made up for it;)

A great point of view imo :yeah:

Both of these players know how to construct points and they played tactically very well today. It didn't look smooth or effortless and there were few spectacular shots because they both so effectively eliminated their opponent's chances to hit winners. All credit to Robredo, though, he really simplified his game and turned it a lot more straightforwardly aggressive on the key points.

You're not that unique - I hate power players too :) And I would much prefer to have a nice, long, well-constructed rally rather than some robot serving machine hammering down aces that very few people can even get their racquet to  Sadly I couldn't watch the match because I was at work - but well done Tommy

Most enjoy watching ralleys but strongly prefer points to end on winners. A winner feels like a positive end to a point while an error always feels like a negative end. Rallys with winners tend to happen when players like Federer, Nalbandian or Safin play each other. They tend to structure points to win them rather than waiting for the opponents error.

The match was great ! He should have won the tie-break, he was very angry at himself because he missed a lot of easy shots, but in the end he won, the public was encouraging him very much so that was great ;)

The point is that a lot of moonballers/defensive players are not actually constructing a point. They just continually return the ball as deep as they can until the offensive player with less margin for error misses.
