He is not on the official list of the Kooyong Exhibition:

From kooyong classic website: http://www.kooyong.com.au/AAMIClassic_TournamentLaunch.htm

"A stunning 2007 AAMI Classic field was announced at a Kooyong media launch today:
ROGER FEDERER
IVAN LJUBICIC
DAVID NALBANDIAN
ANDY RODDICK
TOMMY HAAS
RADEK STEPANEK
ANDY MURRAY
MARAT SAFIN"

I also remember that when in GM announced the Kooyong list, I said there that Feña want to play there, so I found all this very strange. So if anyone knows anything, please post here, so maybe he will need to ask for a WC in Auckland

The important part about the article of the presentation of the Acapulco tournament ... sorry it's in spanish :p

I'm very happy to return to Acapulco to play, it's a tournament that the players really like, it's unique. I have already started to train very hard in order to have a good level in 2007 and to be in good form [not sure about a tope but I have an idea... kid, you can help me here... too lazy to check the diccionario] when the season begins. I'm a bit worried because is not the first time that I heard that some player pretend to inscribe to a certain tournament and finally the tournament don't inscribe the player because an error, if this is the case is more weird because is an exhibition. I remember that in 2005 JCF was sure to play in a tournament (I don't remember where) and finally he never appeared on the entry list and when he entered it was too late for making changes and the WC's were gift at that moment and finally he didn't play that week.

Fernando needs to play some tennis matches before the AO, this is the chance to do it, because he decides to not to play in Auckland this year.

I really hope that Stepanek withdrew from Kooyong :ras: so Feña can play there. ;)

I sent an e-mail to the AAMI Classic (Kooyong Exibition) organization and they replied to me this:

"Hello Felipe,

Fernando is not part of the official field...he is first alternate, which
means someone has to pull out before he gets a place. He has however been
guaranteed to play a match on one of the days against another player who is
not part of the official field, I guess you could say he will play an
exhibition within an exhibition.

Hope this clears things up for you.

Regards,

David."

So he will play some exhibition match, but he will not be part of the tournament, in first instancy... if someone withdraw, he will play the tournament. ;)

That’s exactly what I thought would be the plan because according to my researches it doesn’t look like any of the 8 players is going to pull out at the moment. But I know that in this tournament there are exhibitions matches in addition to the actual tournament and also it’s not sure if every of the 8 players will/wants to play all 3 round robin matches and so there’s also a chance for Fernando to get to play RR matches against one or more of the 7 players in the "official" draw.

Thanks Viva Chile for clarifying this by emailing the Kooyong people.....great idea!!! :worship:

If I know that I should do it, but they said to me that I should not deliver information it brings over of this topic. What yes I can say is that she is a person of the ATP.
And yes, it's only for ATP tournaments.

From Canal13

I think (and hope) Fernando will skip Düsseldorf this year. He said that he won't play a tournament in the week before all Grand Slams this year and as we all know it worked quite well with doing so for the first GS ;) So I think he will stick with that. Besides that I had the impression he didn't like it in Düsseldorf much last year with the bad weather and the condition of the 2nd court and the indoors court which were quite dangerous and nothing you want to play on just before a GS.

I hope they do too-for both Fernando and Nico's sake. They won Dusseldorf twice-that should be enough for history . Let them concentrate on the clay court slam where they can both shine.

OK, I guess Fena feels he's not back to his top form for Acapulco.

Can't wait to see him play IW -- that's if they show his matches on TV!

An unusual tournament - in my hometown - in his schedule:) :

Olympic champion at the Római Tennis Academy
The men’s tennis doubles champion of the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Chilean Fernando Gonzalez is the most prominent tennis player present at the venue of the Gaz de France Budapest Grand Prix. Although, he was playing on one of the courts on Monday, he did not enter the ladies’ competition. The reason for his presence here could be found on the other half of the court: Argentine Gisela Dulko who is actually a participant of the competition, what’s more, she is the no. 6 seed – it is her that Gonzalez, currently 7th in the ATP singles ranking, accompanied to Budapest…

well Feña needs to play clay matches, but what happens if he has a good run in Roma and Hamburg??? :scared:

for Nico could be very good, he will play 3 matches at least...

for the moment nothing it's clear, let's see what happens

Apparently, there's still a place for a team. We'll see.

But personally, I don't want them to play in Dusseldorf.

I'm just a bit selfish, because it means that Fernando will practrice at RG one week before the tournament and it could be great for me, an opportunity to see him : Please forgive me N°1 Rios

Here's the article from La Tercera, apparently, they'll confirm, but Massu committed in Austria the week before, so he has to have the agreement of the tournament director. The decision will be taken today.

I think they'll accept the WC because they like playing in Dusseldorf. I've been there last year for the first match and I spent a great moment. So bad that this tournament is the week before Roland-Garros. Well, I have always "hated" this tournament because all my faves used to play there or are still playing there but I admit that it's a great place and if Fernando needs to practrice before RG, well, I'll accept the decision of the Chilean Team. There are still no news on the Tercera website.

well i always like when Chile plays this type of tournaments...

we are a small country, and when Chile is playing a nation tournament it's very important for us, that's why either Feña and Nico are like heroes here...

i agree with you that it sucks that WTC is one week before RG, it's too bad

NicoFan

It seems like a great tournament...and it is fun to watch the boys when they play for their country. :yeah:

But like Val said, the timing sucks.

Fernando does need playing time so this might be good (of course he could kick ass in both Rome and Hamburg and then what... ... he'll be too tired for RG with all that playing time in). And Nico needs points far more than he needs to play for Chile - and no points in Dusseldorf - so I don't know why he is agreeing to this except that he probably knows that if he says no, the press in Chile will have a field day criticizing him.

enqvistfan
05-05-2007, 08:01 PM
Maybe they'll accept to avoid the critics from the press even if the press can understand that for once, Nico and Fernando want to focuse on their individual careers. But, as they failed in the DC this year, maybe they'll accept to play the WTC just to forget La Serena this year, they have a real chance to win it again when you see the players committed. And, it's always great to watch the boys playing for their country, the atmosphere is so great in Dusseldorf with the chilean fans. Fernando's father would like his son to play there apparently but I don't know if it's what Fernando is thinking, but I think that it will depend on Nico and if the tournament manager of the Austrian tournament accepts him to not commit that week.

I'm hoping the Austrian tournament director says no. But I doubt it. It's not like Nico is trying to get out so he can go relax on a beach on the French Rivieira or something. They'll probably be nice and say okay.

I shouldn't have mentioned the Chilean press. They make me loco - they can be so mean to Fernando and Nico.

I just read this in terra.

"Nicolás habló con gente de la ATP y lo ven difícil, porque son pocas las figuras que hay en el torneo", comentó González.

Yes, Fernando confirmed his participation in Dusseldorf. He's too nice, he can't say no

And, regarding Nicolas, apparently, there are no big names participating in the tournament, so they can't let him go to Dusseldorf. I think Dusseldorf will be a good practrice for Fernando.

Capdeville won a challenger lately so he's in a good shape.

Paul won't play Düsseldorf... He will play RG qualy... Maybe Adrián will be the 3rd. (or 2nd. :scared:) player.

I want to Podlipnik as the 3rd. player, because he really needs money for starting his career, and the WTC could give him a lot of experience.

I don't know Podlipnik, maybe they'll give the occasion to the youngs to play as you said or to be part of the team. Would be nice to be in a team with Fernando, just to share the experience and as you say to earn some money to start his career.
