Howdy folks:wavey:

Just found some nice footage of Tiger Woods & Roger Federer at their best [in my opinion].. You`ve probably seen these clips from youtube before:confused: ..

Anyway my question is>> which is more exciting... Tiger pounding 350-metre drives onto the green over a lake or Federer with all his skills on display:confused:

Since my eyes are a bit slow I feel I need to watch Federer`s tennis in slow motion~> which i believe is the best way to appreciate his talent:worship: .. Whereas I prefer to watch Woods when he`s hitting a shot that no other pro golfer can:cool:

Here are the clips..

Tiger`s signature shots:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHGcAEJiLcU

Federer`s full arsenal in slow mo:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNPaZj4yn00

*Alternatively you can listen to some music with Federer`s glory moments montage:

PS>>.. There`s another clip i want to post here because i think it`s pretty amusing: the Japanese it seems have only just discovered Roger Federer, since he won last month`s Tokyo Open!! For anybody who understands a bit of Japanese this will be interesting~ especially at the end when the two main presenters speak as if they`re hearing Federer`s name for the 1st time. Also they love to talk about age in Japan = seem to be amazed that he`s only 25yrs old! The clip is vaguely related to the thread since Federer talks briefly about Woods.. Also it`s just a nice little interview*@@*.

:wavey:  ~~ Okie dokies that`s fine & I`m sure most people around MTF will agree with you;) ... However I was wondering if seeing Tiger Woods at his best is boring for you:confused: ... Have you ever played golf:confused:

Watching a tennis player who has to move in order to hit a moving tennis ball that may have both spin as well as velocity is far more exciting than watching a guy standing still hitting a golf ball that is laying motionless on the ground or sitting a tee--no contest.

I think you can look at my signature and guess which I picked! :)

I think Tiger Woods is a fine athlete, but I am in no way into golf.
sorry.

Thanks for the videos, though.

I've never played golf before, so it's hard for me to appreciate Tiger's shots. But I know what it's like to play tennis, so it's much easier for me to see how incredible Federer really is from those slow motion shots. Such great balance, focus, and control.

Anyway, thanks for the videos. The slow motion one is great. :yeah:

Apples and oranges.

I prefer tennis, obviously, that's why I post here.

But Tiger is extraordinary.

You`re welcome;)

My interest in tennis began as a spectator~>> living next to Kooyong in Melbourne & watching McEnroe, Wilander, Edberg, Lendl, Cash in the mid-1980s at the AO`s old grass court venue:cool:

Then I became obsessed by golf >> especially after meeting Greg Norman:worship: in 1991..

In 1997 I was fortunate enough to meet:) Tiger Woods at the Aus Masters pro-am... a few months latter he won the US Masters by 12-shots & now we can`t afford to see him play Down Under anymore..

Since I moved to Japan golf became too expensive ~>> so I turned my attention back to tennis:D ... Agassi`s refusal to lay down to age, Hewitt`s patriotic passion & Federer`s supreme command of the game finally made me appreciate that tennis is the overall better game! ... However when I become an old man I`ll probably revert back to golf since it`s less of a physical challenge to compete... However skills wise golf is no piece of cake~>> the way Tiger plays is unhumanlike, of course Federer isn`t from Earth either:angel:

I do think Tiger is a good deal cheesier than Federer~>> anyway I can appreciate both of them for their phenomenal talents:worship:

I watched that slow mo video while Unchained Melody was on the radio. I cannot tell you how strange that was

Anyway, they are both great sportsmen. I'm not much of a golf watcher, however.

Enough said! And I'm a Tiger fan. No contest whatsoever.

What a dumb thread.

Well, considering this is a TENNIS FORUM that consist of TENNIS FANS. I have a hunch that tells me the majority, if not all the people on this forum (must I repeat: a tennis forum that is) are going to enjoy watching tennis shots more than golf shots, but maybe that's just me.

To really compare Fed video should contain his incredible shots like against Roddick in Basel, Nalbandian in RG this year or against Henman in USO 06, plus some great rallies/defense, with a good music. The slomo vid is great but a lot of returns and random shots. Tiger shots are insane.

Definately Federer. Tiger's shots - to me, a golf fan but in no way an expert - all look the same. Though it is quite impressive to hit such a tiny ball with killer accuracy. I think tennis players have more going for them - they're moving, they have to judge speed, spin, accuracy etc. all while potentially on the run, where I think Federer is at his best.

 ...You`re a bit mean spirited deliveryman:eek: ..

Is it so dumb to compare the greatest tennis player of the current generation with the greatest golfer of the current generation~> especially when the media has linked those two & they`re often the two sportsmen vying for World Sportsman of the Year over the last few years;)

If you`re a tennis fan &/or a golf fan [they`re not mutually exclusive:p ] then you should get some joy out of seeing those two sporting greats at their peak ~~atleast:confused:

Tiger Woods at real life speed beats Roger Federer in slow motion. I'm not a golf fan generally but Woods is a bit different. Federer full speed ahead, yeah great, but slow motion of Roger doesn't do it for me! :)

:)

Leave Aussie alone, he's funny. Or a bit funny, I don't know which.:)

How ya doin' Aussie?:D

..>> Yeah I do my best to be "a bit funny";) ~~ Certainly I find it amusing how seriously a lot of posters on MTF take themselves:p ... Some posters seem to write as if they`re legitimate journalists with reputations to keep:o ... Everyone here obviously has an interest in tennis, but I also like to link tennis with other aspects of sports, news, history etc.. just to mix up my game plan [the odd lob doesn`t hurt does it]

Anyway if you`ve got better footage of Federer that you`d like me to post then by all means let me know the link & I`ll add it to the opener on this thread:cool:

:haha: I agree, Fonsie. Enough with the Federer-Woods hype. Do people actually believe they're suddenly best friends? Their "friendship" was a marketing ploy orchestrated by IMG/Nike and whatever other hype machine conglomerates they're associated with. Worked out beautifully for everyone involved. :)

I`m simply interested in both tennis & golf~> is that so weird?

I`m simply do a comparison between two individual sports which are popular Worldwide & where the two present superstars of their respective sports also happen to be two of the greatest dominators of all time:angel:

Hey guys I found this on the BBC website [tennis forums]~> any Federer fans should be interested... especially if you speak German.

Do you guys know which shot Federer rates as his best shot (in 2005):

real.xobix.ch/ramgen...

Goto 2:48 of the clip, he will talk about the incredible lob against Agassi in Dubai. Just see it, it will blow your mind away.

If you are also interested in the 2nd best and 3rd best shots of Federer see from the begininning.

Play both to a reasonable level (county level tennis in the UK and single handicapper). On top of which I've had the pleasure of watching both in real life. If I had to pick one Fed would just shade it. Just. There's more excitement in a tennis match in terms of shot making then in a round of golf. But having said that, the sight of Tiger explosively turning those hips through his golf swing can be heartaching too especially if u look bacj at his younger years. Tiger today is so much more restrained but the same can be said of Fed too :D.

Their "friendship" was a marketing ploy orchestrated by IMG/Nike and whatever other hype machine conglomerates they're associated with. Worked out beautifully for everyone involved. :)And of course you would know if they're friends or not. You're just pissy because he was sitting in Roger's box during the US Open final. :p

Sorry, but I think Tiger Woods has earned enough clout to do what he wants. I don't think Nike or IMG could force him to show up at the US Open final if he didn't want to be there. Perhaps these guys have become friends or would like to maintain friendship in the future? Is that such a strange thing? Both guys are experiencing the same thing - dominating their sport. And both say they're admirers of each other. I'm not suggesting they've become best buds or anything (of course how would I know) but not everything has to be some grand scheme orchestrated by Nike.

I can hardly wait for Sunday nite.

tiger woods is obviously the best golfer in the world and is in great shape, but you don't necessarily have to be in great shape to become a top golfer, whereas in tennis you do. tennis players have to keep their shots in the confines of the court or they lose the point. unless golfers are playing par 3 holes they have a vast area to aim for. one bad round in golf and you can still win the tournament. one day bad in tennis and its off to the next tournament.
