Pros Growing Later

Read a few backgrounds on players about them being short until they were like 17 or so and then experiencing a growth spurt. Andy Roddick is one such player whose body didn't reach full height until he was over 17.

For me, I stopped growing at 15/16. At what age did everyone else stop growing? Btw, I'm 5'7" or 170cm

A few get lucky with late growth spurts:eek:

Are you a boy or a girl:wavey: ...If you`re a guy then I think 17yrs is the average age we stop growing... If you`re a girl then I think 15-16yrs is the norm...
For myself it was 17yrs..

A few examples of people who had late growth spurts...

Tiger Woods ~ he grew 2cm in his final year as an amateur... meaning he grew until he was 20yrs:eek:

Leonardo DiCaprio ~ he grew nearly 5cm between the ages of 17-19yrs..

>>> It`s not fair is it:sad: ... Some people get all the luck:p

I was pretty short for my age when i was 13, like 5"4 or 5"5, but had a growth spurt and was 6"0 when i was 15. Then had another minor spurt, and im now 6"2/3ish at 19, stopped growing at 17. Bit weird that, but most of my family in general is pretty tall.

I'm 5'11 and was pretty much that height by about 14/15 years old i just grew early and really fast, almost too fast -it was very painful.

now my younger brother is almost my size and he isn't even 13 yet, he's just steadily been increasing & probably will for another handful of years...
i think you can grow taller when it is streched over time.

but i sympathize with those who do it in a quick burst...'cause it aint fun.

Dennis rodman grew 27cm in one year, pretty mental. Imagine looking in the mirror and seeing size 14 feet, and a frame that a model would be proud of Lol.

It's possible for guys to keep growing even til their early 20s sometimes. maybe not a big growth spurt of several inches but they definitely keep developing.

I grew 3-4 inches when I was 12-13(in more than one direction ), stopped growing, then between 17 and 21 grew another 3-4 inches(only in one direction, unfortunately). Come from a family of late-bloomers, though, even though I was the second tallest boy in my class from 2nd grade to 8th.

Some pros retire and undergo a significant horizontal growth spurt in their thirties.

Kind of off topic (sorry) but has any one else noticed that quite a few of the players are bow legged?

I'd guess this has to do with the fact that the average starting time for a pro tennis player to bgein playing tennis is in very early childhood, and such activities as tennis greatly increase the chance one might end up bow-legged. Apparently Agassi's dad trained him from birth the be a tennis star, same with the williams sisters, just for a few examples.

I'm a guy, and I was 6' tall by age 13, and I thought I had stopped growing...but then I grew 2.5" between ages 20-21. I think that growth spurts later in life (around late teens early 20s) would impact a player's game, making certain shots awkward and affecting their movement, but most of them seem to adjust.

Q. How tall are you now?

ANDY RODDICK: About 6'2".

Q. Are you done growing?

ANDY RODDICK: I think so. I don't know. Inches keep popping up.

-growth is such an odd mystery.
