Congrats Tommy. I wasn't too excited about you going to Shanghai, but you certainly kept your head together under pressure to earn your spot in Shanghai and that is to be admired.......... Best of Luck in Shanghai :)

:woohoo: Congratulations Tommy!

And I'm not sure what pleases me more - him qualifying for Shanghai or how much it will p*** off all the bitter Tommy haters on MTF  But seriously - well done Tommy - you deserve it :bigclap:

A type of player who managed to take advantage of his draws and chances he got. Those who disagree - just check his playing activity and count the numer of victories against Top 10 players

Robredo won the "What the hell I'm doing in the Masters Cup?" 2006!!!

Former winners:

2005: Mariano Puerta
2004: Gaston Gaudio
2003: Not awarded (There were 4 good candidates)
2002: Albert Costa refused the award by beating Marat Safin
2001: Not awarded (Though Gustavo Kuerten recieved the career award)
2000: Alex Corretja refused the award by beating Lleyton Hewitt

And now what will happen to the winner of 2006? Will he accept the award by losing all his matches or he will refuse the award by beating someone with real talent to play indoors?

Don't miss the ceremony in Shanghai!

How many sets will Boredo win? If he gets Davydenko in his group, maybe one....otherwise a bit fat 0.

What a waste of space he will be in Shanghai.

Like him or hate him, Berdych (like Nadal) would have provided for some very entertaining matches at the TMC. I'm afraid that's not the case for Robredo. This is great for Robredo, but probably not for tennis fans in general.

YES!!!!

Kiss my ass Robredo-haters!

Tommy made it and everyone who slags him off just wishes they were ranked in the Top 10 and as sexy as Tommy - so what if he doesn't win a match, he still deserves to be there and deserves much more respect than most of the haters on this board give him.

No, I didn't. Coria always played well in the Masters Cup. The only time he was horrible was in 2004, but he was injured, so it would be unfair to give him the award.

There should be a rule of some sort that if a player fails to make the final eight of at least one Grand Slam, he should be automatically be disqualified from the the TM Cup...

He might be the worst player I have ever seen to qualify for the TM...even Brad Gilbert was a better player in his career...

All I know is that Roger and Rafa are praying he is in their group...a guaranteed victory in pool play;)

Basically a list of clay players. Why are Roland Garros finalists less deserving of a place in the TMC?

Can someone explain me how this works?
Official rules say that 8th place is reserved for former grand slam champion who is in top 20. So top 7 in the race get the berth. Robredo is currently 7th, and if Ancic let's say wins the title he will overcome him and Robredo will become 8th and will not qualify.

No, the rule is if some GS winners of THIS year (not former) are not in top 8 but in top 20 then the highest GS winner (if he is in top 20) gets the 8th place. As only Fed and Rafa have the GS titles this year this rule is not applied and top 8 players go to Shanghai.

(I know for example in 2002 Thomas Johansson won the AO but was only No. 14 and went to the TMC as the 8th player.)

A look at the point-break per tournament that Judio provided suggests that Robredo was fairly consistent during the year in general and winning against lower-ranked players in particular.

Well, since only six other players did better over the year, he deserves his spot. Blake, Berdych, lots of others would probably have had bigger chances of winning a match in Shanghai, but they haven't been consistent enough over the year. Congrats to Tommy.
