Carpet is always really fast and actually the commentators have said multiple times that they think the Paris surface is actually a bit slower than Basel.

I like George's idea that Safin should ask to have whoever lays the surface for Bercy lay the surface for the DC final.

I rather like this court, it definitely produces a different kind of tennis; the low bounce combined with the low camera angle makes it look like a real effort to keep the rally going once a player is pushed out wide, or deep behind the baseline. A serve-volley player hitting the spots and sticking his volleys could still do pretty well here, it's no coincidence that Stepanek had final and semi-final showings in the last two years.

One way the ATP could encourage top players to play Paris is if it used the same surface as the year end masters. Top players would then play Paris as the ideal preparation for the year end masters

But then you'd have some players complaining that the TMC surface is too fast when a YEC should give equal chances to all players, like has happened before.

I feel it compensates top indoor players for not having a grand slam.
