This is a really strong looking field for a 25K + H challenger at this time of the season, expect a load of drop out before this one starts but still going to be a pretty good field.

ae wowww

Would be good to see Del Potro, Schuettler play etc. Obviously expecting a lot of withdrawals though..

Hmmmm, this doesn't look a bad list compared the total shite usually served up in 25k's here.

When is it? This seems to be a first time event too, which has it replaced?

It's the week after next and has replaced the Sunderland Challenger from last year (won by Boggo, who's defending 50!)

Please no fighting. Yes we are moderators and responsible for this section and we are trying to help. Well, sometimes looking at thread title helps :) If you want the current date of the event - Monday is on 20th November :wavey:

Quallie start likely on Saturday but sometimes UK events differ.

Quallie start likely on Saturday but sometimes UK events differ.

Qualies start on Sunday, 2 games Sunday and final Q round on Monday morning.

Usually 2 or 4 1st round games on Monday and then all the others 12 or 14 on tuesday, so usually worth going on the tuesday cos there's loads going on.

Usually there's a Fact sheet on the LTA website, but it's not there at the moment.

However details on the Welti Tennis Centre can be found at http://www.weltileisure.co.uk/

Results so far from qualifying:

V Hanescu [Rom] bt D Rice [GB] 6-1, 6-2

A Slabinsky [GB] bt M Illingworth [GB] 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 But what happened in that 2nd set, Alex must have really lost focus

S Bubka [Ukr][5] bt R Hutchins [GB] 6-2, 6-4

So Slabba v Bubka in rd2 later today

Good chance for all the Brits to win a match at least here, as no-one has got what would be considered a horrible draw

Boggo had a good chance to get to at least the semi's, as he is by far the best player in his quarter of the draw, and hopefully if he has the confidence by that point can go on and win the title and defend his 50 points from last year

No! because he lost his match before the qualifying sign-in
(Although the rules are written for a Friday sign-in that would have been the situation if he had lost on Friday with the normal Friday sign-in)

Ah of course, thanks for that :)
WC or SE unfortunately I don't give him much chance against Helsinki champ Berrer, hope he proves me wrong :(

Has anyone seen the OOP?

The final Qualifying match between Eleskovic and Marx starts at same time as first round match between Bogdanovicx and Chardy.

And the LL sign in only happens after qualies have finished, so what happens if Boggo or Chardy withdraws, there wont be a LL to take their place?

These tournaments are just treated like a production line by the LTA, they dont seem to give a toss, so long as they can the events finished as quickly and cheaply as possible!

Hey guys, it's definate that Alan beat Popp 6-4, 6-3.

I run Alex's official website with Count [www.alexbogdanovic.com]. I spoke to Alex after the match and he said that he's playing Mackin next, he must know !!!

We've also heard from Alex's coach who watched the Mackin match and he said that Mackin won.

Go to www.alexbogdanovic.com for a report of the Chardy match with quotes from Alex. That's now up.

Also, go to www.freewebs.com/andrewmurray/messageboard.htm
Click on the link on that page and go to the Shrewsbury challenger thread in that section. One of the posters - Bladetiger spoke to Alan's coach this afternoon who said that Alan one. I'm also doing a regular results service from the challenger on there.

but why the official site of bogdanovic is wrote that: Alex moved into rd2 of the Shrewsbury challenger with an impressive 6-1, 6-2 win over France's Jeremy Chardy. Chardy's massive serve is perfectly suited to the fast indoor acrylic courts of Shrewsbury but he was no match for Alex who defused the Frenchman's power with some impressive returning. Speaking after the match Alex said "It's a great result for me as Chardy's a good player. I returned pretty well throughout the match and didn't give him a chance to get into it." Alex now faces compatriot Alan Mackin, Mackin beat Germany's Torsten Popp 6-4, 6-3 in rd1. It will be an interesting match as both players are coached by Mike Raphael and they train together regularly. Alex confirmed that he'll be heading to the States straight after this tournament, he'll spend the off season training at the Saddlebrook Academy in Florida where he'll be looking to link up with Andy Murray and Brad Gilbert. Full rd2 preview to follow later

I spoke to Mike Raphael (coach of Alex Bogdanovic and Alan Mackin) and I said : "Good result for your boys today."

He said: "Yes, and they are playing against each other in the 2nd round."

So I can only assume that this means Alan Mackin won.

I believe that someone has made a huge cock up at the LTA and put the wrong score on the website, as it seems highly unlikely that the coach wouldnt have known the score.

The LTA want shooting for this, I hope some Russian bookmaker sues their arse off for having paid out on a wrong result.

Juska's coach said his second round match will be against the proprietor of AlexBogdanovic.com and Bubka said he will play his coach because he doesn't want to play Popp at any point in this tournament in case he wins but the result comes in opposite! LOL

I think the end of the matter is that Popp won.

The main fault is with the tournament office for giving different scores to different people.

the posters from British tennis websites were only trying to help so to call them F***ing idiots is just idiotic and stupid.

If anyone is an idiot it is people who are betting on challenger tennis tournaments becasue at this level it really is a lottery and you are messing with you and your families livelihoods.

Good luck to Bogdanovic in the next round
