About time there is a Cheering thread for the no.1 of the juniors,

Thiemo won his second future in Portugal today and will reach a position in the top 500

Slecht nieuws over Thiemo

De Bakker and compatriot Antal van der Duim were suspended for a month by the KNLTB on 27 November 2006, because the two did not follow the commitments made between them and the federation. They were supposed to fly back home, but played three future tournaments in Israel instead. De Bakker reached the final in one of these tournaments.

This sounds even more absurd than the explanation of getting caught with the girls.

So it was the girls too?

the girls were the reason I guess

they didn't play 3 tournaments and they went back to the netherlands so thats not the reason

Thiemo de Bakker (NED) and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) are the 2006 ITF Junior World Champions.

De Bakker, 18, is the first ever Dutch player to be named Boys’ World Champion. Despite only playing only nine events during the first half of the year, he captured six singles titles including his first Grand Slam success at Wimbledon. He was also a semifinalist at Roland Garros and had an overall win-loss record of 42-3.

Richard Krajicek will be the manager of thiemo de bakker. Richard has good contacts in the world of professional tennis and knows what you need to reach the top says thiemo. Thiemo will still work with eddy bank and the dutch federation. He will play qualies in Bergamo and Marseille in preperation of the ABN amro tournament in Rotterdam were he will play qualies to or maybe main draw if Richard will give him a wildcard, His chances will rise after signing for Richard I guess

Hi guys. Could anyone tell me what kind of game Thiemo plays? Does he have a big serve?

He plays an aggressive baseline game, pretty typical for a good junior. He is tall and lanky, and his serve is good but not great. If he continues to develop his game as he develops physically he should be able to be top 100 at least.

He isn't a super volleyer, but he might serve and volley in doubles.

pretty silent here:angel:

I loved the way he played against an in-form-Arthurs in Wimbledon last year, although his game seems to be worse or just less developed than other players born in 1988, Del Potro, Cilic, Gulbis

Amersfoort, some challengers and futures followed, but he has not played for 4 months now? when will he return? I could well imagine him being awarded a wildcard, at least for qualifying, for Rotterdam (February)

Yeah Thiemo didn't play at all lost months. Even not in the Dutch Masters. Guess he will try it in some challengers this month and then offcourse ABN Amro WTT. He was in a dutch show with John v Lottum. He looked a bit nervous but John talked lovely about him. But all those words about thiemo has to turn into points someday so lets play I will say

two wins for thiemo, the last one against c.rochus who won lots of matches this year in challengers. 1-6 6-1 6-2. Now Irakli Labadze.

Thiemo will be in the top 300 and if he can go further he can climb really quick and almost skip the places between 300 and 200

Raemon Sluiter wil coach Thiemo during some weeks of the year.

Sad news about this:

Sluiter has ended the coaching of De Bakker a week ago.
He didn't want to get into too deep the reasons for it, but he basically said that he didn't want to travel all that much with De Bakker (becasue of the difficult year he had himself due to some bad happenings in his personal life), but he sadly also hinted towards De Bakker not (yet) having the true mentality of a genuine tennis pro...

I don't know too much about De Bakker other than his results but he does seem to be very inconsistent with often very long gaps in his playing schedule. Does this mean he is physically fragile and needs a lot of recovery time or does it reflect the fact that he is not 100% committed to tennis (study, or different reasons)?

BTW I noticed his compatriot Igor Sijsling (same generation as Thiemo) just came back after a long break and won a futures tournament in Hawaii.

If I'm not mistaken, Igor was seriously injured. He seems very injury-prone and I can't see him having a long career because of that. Also, Thiemo is much, much more talented than Igor. Still, Igor can be a solid Top 300 player if he is somewhat fit. Thiemo has definite Top 70 potential.

Anyways, Igor just lost to Niki Moser in another Future this week.

Where will Thiemo start 2009 season?
I suppose he get a WC in Rotterdam, which must help him a lot since Rotterdam has an "500" category. How do you think about Thiemo's chances to reach top 100 before the Wimbledon?

01-14-2009, 06:29 PM
Well Thiemo was hoping to start his season in Australia but he wasn't ranked high enough to enter the qualie draw in Brisbane I think and he's missed out on the AO q-draw because the Dutch federation had forgotten to enter him:o Not sure where he'll be playing next.

Thiemo about the match:

Eurosport - Wed, 26 Aug 06:44:00 2009

Dutch number one Thiemo de Bakker has failed to deliver on his huge potential, but recent results suggest to the Tennis Spy that he is finally turning the corner.

Full name: Thiemo de Bakker

Nationality: Dutch (Born in the Hague)

Age: 20 (DOB: September 19, 1988)

World Ranking: 151

Career highlights: Winner of three Challenger Tour events in the space of four weeks in July and August 2009. Made crucial contribution as Holland beat Korea to enter the Davis Cup World Group last eyar. Made last 16 at ATP Munich and ATP s-Hertogenbosch in 2009, in the case of Munich beating world number 30 Rainer Schuettler in the process. Winner of four Futures tournaments in previous seasons. Winner of 2006 Junior Wimbledon title.

General: The great hope of Dutch tennis had a stellar junior career that culminated in his success in the 2006 Junior Wimbledon tournament. While he has not leapt into the top echelons of the world since then, he has enjoyed a steady, successful rise through the ranks - and his recent Challenger Tour form suggested he is about to go supernova.

Strengths: A lively, aggressive player who is a fierce competitor. Very good serve - he stands 6'4" and pumps out aces regularly when his timing is on. Two-handed backhand is decent without being exceptional, and he has a fantastic habit of always looking for the angle with his forehand. Loves charging the net to close points out, making him exciting to watch.

Weaknesses: Though his aggression is a real boon, he struggles to turn points around when his opponent takes the upper hand in a rally. While he's always looking for the edge with the angles of his ground strokes, he often seems to float back fairly nondescript shots with little penetrating power. His tall, gangly physique seems to get in his way, as he often struggles to get himself into position to play the right shot.

Prospects: Endured a slow start to his career and is still well outside the world's top 100, but De Bakker's recent blistering results suggest he is getting on top of his game and starting to get the best out of himself. Only managed to step up to Challenger level after cracking Futures tournaments, and now he has cracked Challenger competition he must surely feel ready to take the step up to ATP level. And the Spy has high hopes for him, for one big reason: de Bakker is not afraid to win. In a sport where mental frailty is fatal to a player's hopes, that could be the crucial factor that helps lift him above others. Mark him down now as a future top-100 player, a likely top-50 player and a reasonable bet to be a future top-20 star.

Personal: The middle of three brothers, de Bakker was introduced to the game by his mother Carlieke while visiting her club. Obsessed with sport from as early as he can remember, he was a keen swimmer and footballer. But it was his precocious tennis talent that was spotted by local coach Ruud Thijssenm who nurtured his career for six years before de Bakker went to Holland's Huib Troost tennis academy. Raemon Sluiter is his current coach.

I don't think he will play that much challengers. If he wins Alphen aan de Rijn, and maybe get another SF / F at Mons? Which is a big challenger he will be near or in the top 100 and play some ATP quallies don't you think?

There was a Dutch interview with both Haase, De Bakker and their coach in Sportweek this week. Took the liberty of scanning it. It's in high res, about 31MB.

Week 3/4: Australian Open (MD)
Week 5: Practise
week 6: Rotterdam (WC)
week 7: Marseille (5e alt)
week 8: Dubai (3 alt)

March: Indian Wells and Miami I guess, with his current rank he should get into the main draw

Wow, great to play against Roddick for Thiemo. But I'd rather see an easier first round draw. Hopefully he plays at the centre court.

Sheva

Mixed feelings. He will get to show himself to the world, but his chances of getting to the next round are quite slim..

I don't like Dutchies playing Andy Roddick.
I remember Schalken never had much of a chance when playing him.

Still, good luck Thiemo!

Good luck, Thiemo!

Thiemo also pulled out for Dubai with his shoulder injury. He would have made the MD directly as an alternate.

De Bakker has secured direct entry into the Indian Wells main draw.
Anyone know how is shoulder is holding up? I really hope ha can play, I don't remember the last time a Dutchman played a TMS/1000 event.

Don't know how Thiemo's shoulder is at the moment. He didn't play Marseille and Dubai so I hope it's rested enough.
Haase is the last Dutch guy who plays a TMS by the way.

First round in Indian Wells is against Marcos Daniel. The winner plays against Tipsarevic.
Possible third round Roddick is the expected opponent.
Nice draw. Thiemo has to win 1 match at least.

sheva07

Thiemo won 6-3, 6-3!:yeah: Some nice stats from him:
11 aces, 89% 1st serve points won, converted all 4 break points and Daniel had just 1 break point.
Tipsa is next.

Miami:

[20] SIMON, Gilles vs bye
ZEBALLOS, Horacio vs SEPPI, Andreas
RAM, Rajeev vs DE BAKKER, Thiemo
BYE vs [16] BERDYCH, Tomas

Good first round draw for Thiemo. Very tough second round.

Tess Gray
03-22-2010, 09:39 PM
Thiemo beat Ram earlier this year in Chennai (6-1 6-1). Hopefully he'll beat him just as easily this time around;)

Second round will be tough for sure.

Thiemo won 6-4, 7-5! :yeah: 81% 1st serve points won, 100% BP convertion and didn't face a single BP.

I saw that he withdrew from Casablanca, why? Precaution, rest, injury? He mentions nothing of it on Twitter. The tournament is very weak, hoped he would play.

Thiemo wanted some rest so that's why he withdrew. His next tournaments are Barcelona and Monte-Carlo (qualies).

Thiemo will play MC qualies. First round is against Alberto Martin. Possible second against Bastl or Gabashvili.

Now he's destroyed Falla with similar numbers. Very impressive, Thiemo!

Someone knows his schedule after Roma ? (if he plays here)
I saw he wasn't on the entry list for Madrid...

anon57
04-24-2010, 02:03 PM
After Rome he's probably heading back to the Netherlands for the Davis cup tie against Italy which takes place 7-9 May. I'm not quite sure what his schedule will be after that.

Also Rome MD is out, for which Thiemo got a SE after reaching the semi in Barcelona. Thiemo plays Troicki first after that a possible second round rematch against Tsonga.

Thiemo makes his top 50 debut next week.

In Rome, he has a decent opponent in Troicki and a chance to play Tsonga again if he wins his first round match.

Good luck, Thiemo, zet hem op!
