nicky 2002..maybe this isnt you..maybe your source was misinformed..but do you know how a lucky loser works??
lucky losers arent actually appointed until after the two players have been called for their match...therefore, once the players have been called, and one player fails to show (after several calls and about 15 minutes) a lucky loser alternate is appointed.....therefore, Udomchoke must not have been 'on-site' at the time of his match or when he was called...also, i doubt if he arrived 'on-site' for the first time today, and had only just arrived in Australia that he would be ready to play...he probably has come here now after last weeks success, to practise and climatise a bit to the conditions and he will have a big crack at Kawana next week.

As for the 'aussie lucky loser' replacing him, it has no relevance that the lucky loser was australian - the relevance was that he happened to be the highest ranked, final round loser in qualifying, who also signed in on the alternates list.

For the record, the lucky loser was Marinko Matosevic, and he was defeated by Nick Lindahl 6-2 6-3.

well, actually i understood this situation quite clearly and in fact i've always known how lucky losers work as well so that's not the point. i've got this news about danai for those who are interested to read.

Danai furious after being kicked out of event

Thailand's Danai Udomchoke was furious yesterday after being disqualified from the US$25,000 Kia International tournament in Caloundra, Australia, after a mix-up by officials, who claimed he turned up late for his match.

Danai was removed from the main draw where he was the top seed after officials claimed he did not make it to the venue in time for his match against Australian Nick Lindahl.

But Danai had a good reason for his late arrival in Australia and had notified officials in advance.

The Thai won his previous tournament in South Korea on Sunday and was assured by supervisor Ed Hadisty, who was in charge of the event Danai won, that an e-mail had been sent to the supervisor in Caloundra.

The e-mail explained that as Danai had made it into the final in South Korea, his arrival in Australia would be delayed and asked if he could play his first match on Wednesday, not Tuesday as originally scheduled.

This is common practice when a player makes a final and has to delay his arrival for the next tournament.

"I insisted several times that he [Hadisty] inform the tournament officials in Caloundra about my late arrival and he said 'don't worry'.

"But when I arrived, the another player had taken my place already,'' said an infuriated Danai.

He was replaced by lucky loser Marinko Matsevic of Australia.

Danai said officials in Caloundra denied receiving any e-mails from their counterparts in South Korea and said nothing could be done because the match was already competed.

"I'm really p*ssed off because I travelled so far from Busan [South Korea] to here [Australia] only to find that I was unable to play the singles and I had a good draw,'' said Danai, who is still eligible to play in the doubles.

Danai and Lu Yen-hsun of Taiwan will play Taiwan's Ti Chen and American John Paul Fruterro today. Danai is playing his last two tournaments of the year in Australia with the aim of securing a place in the main draw of January's Australian Open.

He needs to accumulate as many points as possible from the two-week tour down under.

"This is very bad because I'm playing good tennis now and I don't need interruptions.

"So I have only one tourn-ament left next week and must reach at least the quarter-finals to gain enough points for Melbourne."

Oooo ya, my bud Rendy took home the title

I am so happy for him. He's had a great run for the past four weeks, trying to get the direct acceptance to the AO.

Rendy's got a favorable draw next week in Kawana. As how they say it in Taiwan, "ga yo Rendy!!"

I watched this match, and it started off with the 2 players seeming to be matched pretty evenly. Luczak was hitting hard and accurate groundstrokes, with Lu counterpunching well. At 2-2 however, Luczak completely lost the plot. He forfeited serve, held a break point in the fifth game, but quickly surrended it.

As the Aussie crowd became more desperate, Luczak became more paranoid and ended up losing the first set 6-3. The second set was even worse. Despite hitting a sloppy patch, Lu started to open his shoulders and hit some great winners. He won 6 games in a row to easily claim the match from a frustrated, error prone and frankly very disappointing Luczak.

Game, set and match to the better player, Yen Hsun Lu. Well done Lu, and good luck at Kawana!

This was a great match with lots of quick, accurate reflex volleys. However, Nathan Healy was by far the best player on court. His serve was like clockwork, volleying was effortless and he even amused the crowd with a dive volley (on hard court), perfect lobs and rifles at the opposing net players.

It is clear to me that Healy very much deserves a wildcard into the Adelaide, Sydney and Aussie Open events, as he works hard and has loads of natural talent. He should get wildcards before the oft-injured Mark Philippoussis, the overrated Chris Guccione (who only has a serve), Wayne Arthurs (who now has nothing) and Peter Luczak (very disappointing)

I wouldn't say that, some of his results have been poor. Filp has about a million times more talent than healey will ever have, guccione is overrated but still is more talented than healey, wanyo has done a lot for australain tennis and should ahve his final swansong and luzcak has had better results than healey.

Philippoussis and Arthurs have had plenty of chances! They are both too old, TA should focus on the promising upcoming players rather than those two!

I wouldn't risk giving arthurs a wildcard! He lost R1 to Smeets 6-4, 6-0!!

Id like to see Healy play Luczak or Guccione. Id go for Healy...

Flip is too close to the top 100 to not get a wc. Arthurs is a tricky one, i really want him to be given a farewell but he's struggling now (i wouldn't go on the result last week, i think he's had some sort of back problems).

It's tricky if we didn't give our wildcards away like we have, it wouldn't be a decision
