Fernando won last year both titles, good luck, because this year, Roger will be there (but on the top of the draw, Fernando is in the bottom of the draw)
I dont know if Gonzo should play in Basel... I think hes going to be very tired after todays final.. maybe he should rest next week and then go and play at Paris.. thats my opinion..

To be honest Felipe, as I live in Paris, I'd love him to skip Basel, just to see him sooner in Paris. We'll see... But, I think just by respect to the audience and the people who organise the tournament, he'll go. but, he has made two finals in a row, so I also think that he should rest before Paris. Would be great to make a great tournament in Paris, and to qualify for Shanghai at that place :)

Not too bad of a draw-Andy Murray in the quarters but other than that he shouldn't have too much trouble UNLESS he's tired out from the last two weeks which is quite possible. Good Luck in defending you titile Fena!!!!

I don't mean to sound like a task master  but he has to play. He has too many points to defend there. If he wasn't trying to get into Shanghai, it would be okay because he added points in Madrid. But since he's so close to getting into Shanghai, he has to play both Basel and Paris-Bercy. Unless he doesn't mind about missing Shanghai...or he can hope that others just drop in points. But I think he should do his best to get into Shanghai.

Before talking of the quarters, here's the name of Fernando's first opponent in Basel : Simone Bolelli
I've never heard about him. If Fernando is not too tired, it should be ok :)

Don't know much about this guy but I think is a good opponent for a first round.
Fernando confirmed in the newspapers that he will play Basel but won't play doubles. Very good decision.
Fernando can only gain points for the race for Shangai by reaching semis, right?
Fernando said and we know that everything will be decided in Paris, that's the important one. But the bad thing is that Fernando has never won a match in Paris. :scared:

It's a good first match for Gonzo. He won't have to play at 100 %, with all the respect to the Italian player. But, we never know, depending how Fernando will have recovered from Madrid.
I admire a lot all the players, how can they play each week, especially if they go far each week. How can Fernando recover after those two great weeks ? Thank you Carlos Burgos :)

I was looking at Fernando's direct opponents for Shanghai and he has something to do this week because :
- Blake doesn't play this week,
- Robredo lost today,
- Clement is leading against Bagdatis in Lyon, he doesn't seem to be inspired.
If Nalby loses tomorrow, it would be perfect :)

Phew!! Good Fernando!! :yeah: that was a very tough match.
Poor Fernando ... he must be so tired ... you don't expect such a close match in a first round but oh well he won and that's what counts.
Let's hope he feels well.
Altought we know Fernando must be tired that was a very good fight from Bolelli.
That shot to get the double minibreak was great! :D
It was great the livestream at least showed the last games.
Next match will be very very tough against Fish. Fernando beat him recently in a very tight match just a few weeks ago.
Chile's No. 1 player Fernando Gonzalez produced a courageous performance to reach the second round of the Davidoff Swiss Indoors in Basel Wednesday.
Hard-hitting Gonzalez, who last week advanced to the Madrid Masters final, dug deep to grind out a 7-6(3), 6-7(2), 7-6(3) win over Italian lucky loser Simone Bolelli in a match that featured just two breaks of serve. Bolelli claimed the first break of the match to go ahead 3-2 in the second set but Gonzalez broke back immediately.
Gonzalez, who fired 22 aces and saved four of the five break points he faced, eventually won in 2 hrs., 21 mins.
Moving three places to No. 9 in the INDESIT ATP 2006 Race by reaching last week's Madrid final, Gonzalez would go as high as No. 7 if he wins the Basel title. (The top eight players in the race will qualify for Shanghai.). Gonzalez could net 40 points (50 winner's points less his current 'best fifth' result of 10 points), which would take his points tall to 417, ahead of current No. 7 James Blake.
