Pretty bad match from Haas, but a good one from Nadal :)

What a lovely win for Rafa! I'm so glad to see him back on track! :worship:
Sorry for Tommy, though.

Well done :yeah:

Did you watch the match? I hope his serve's decent - Berdych's playing well at the moment.

Aye, you were just a little bit faster with posting on this one!

Great, great win for dear Rafa!

That'll do - consistency better on the serve and sting is back in the forehand.

Time to teach Berdych a lesson, no?

Though Rafa is in a time of changes in his game ( has changed his serve, now opens more the legs) and is trying to be a bit more aggressive and that creates him some doubts , he’s showing a pretty good level in Madrid being very far from that off-form player at north american hardcourt tour and for me he’s the favourite to reach the final in his side of the draw after seeing his two first matches.

not a suprise, but now he gets Berdych, tough match for Rafa on a hard court, his return of serve is what needs to be good, for him to win.

Madrid's purple clay agrees w/The Kid. I like the work he is doing with his serve; should help a lot in the not too distant future. And so will the added depth in his shots.

Rafa all the way!

Agree, I liked his match today more. :D :D

Not that I have anything against Tomas. He was serving really well today so Rafa needs to be receiving and serving at his best. VAMOS! :bounce: :bigclap: :yippee:

P.S. I absolutely LOVE Interlaken's Tomas avatars. :hearts:

Rafa is hitting his backhand like a dream at the moment :hearts:

Forehand is still a little shaky, but better than it was the last couple of months.

Time to kick Berdych's ass :armed:

You know, although Berdych played good against Nadal, I think this time Rafa will win. Berdych served like hell against Roddick, but we know it's hard for him to play 2 consecutive great matches. Not to mention the audience thing (Tomas seems a little shaky with his mental toughness)

Good to hear! His backhand during a normal exchange was often a weakness in the past (well, weakness relatively to the rest of his game). The funny thing was that if he was attacked on his backhand side, often under enormous pressure, that his lunging backhand shots which he scratched from the ground was often better than a normal shot in an everyday rally (but often it was a passing shot with placement as first priority and not aggressiveness)

He's hitting more winners and less errors off his backhand side at the moment. He's hitting it flat and hard, hit a couple of absolute belters in his first 2 matches here.

Time to set the record straight with Berdych now :)

Sounds good, I hope Nadal defeats Berdych. Perfect location and good support for Rafa, but Berdych can grow with people against him if he is in good mood.

As expected, Haas has no weapons to hurt a decent Nadal.

 I noticed that too, his desperate bhs on the run were better than the regular rally ones and no less spectacular than any of Roger's trickshots btw

I'm gonna root for Berdych, partly because he'll need it. Hopefully that will be an interesting encounter. I still think Rafa will defend his title.

Well, it's surely not a shame for Haas to have lost from Rafa playing like he did yesterday...
