Only 54% 1st serves in court for Federer, but Nico unable to break serve.

Routine performance from Roger, although, his first serve percentage could have been better. I'm really shocked to see such a packed arena........a very nice acknowledgement, of Roger, from the Spaniards.

What, you thought they were going to be ignoring him or throwing things at him? He hasn't played here for three years, of course they would want to see him. I read in the Federer forum that the crowd were very vocal for Massu, but the Spanish-speaking connection and the fact that he is a former finalist probably had something to do with that. ;)

Unfortunately I could only follow the scoreboard. It seemed to be a more narrow match as the result says. Massu had his chances to break Roger.

Congrats to Roger and good luck for the next match :yeah:

From Roger's presser. Thank god he's come to his senses about about RR format.

Q. Some ATP tournaments next season may have a round robin format. Do you like that idea, or are you skeptical?
ROGER FEDERER: I thought it was an interesting idea in the first place. Now I'm not a big fan anymore of it. So that's how my feelings went. I don't know when and how it's going to happen and which tournaments and so forth, but that's how my feeling went actually.

Q. To follow up on the round robin, why did you change your mind on the round robin?
ROGER FEDERER: I changed my mind?

Q. Your mind on the round robin, you're not too into it.
ROGER FEDERER: Oh, why.

Q. The second question is how come. At the beginning of the year you didn't like it too much, and now you do. If yes, why?
ROGER FEDERER: The round robin, I don't know. I was just asked what I thought, the round robin format. It could kind of work. You get to see the best players maybe twice at least or three times, but then I think you lose the first round, you want to stick around for maybe not even being able to qualify. It's kind of maybe a losing battle, I think. I started to think about it more often. I just got some doubts, just keep the knock out system. That's so unique about tennis, one bad day, you're out. That's what like the Hawkeye. I didn't like it in the first place. I still don't like it today. That hasn't changed.

Q. Why?
ROGER FEDERER: Why? It's unnecessary.

I haven't seen many of Massu's matches but I've seen some (and some were live) where the Chilean fans were very loud, with their Chilean chant. I don't know if that's a regular of Massu's matches or not?

Ooh. I like their "Chi Chi Chi! Le Le Le! Chi-le Chi-le!" chant ;) I don't know if it's a regular but I've heard it at the US Open.

Expected win, but not as routine as many people said here :o
The score doesn't reflect exactly how the match was developed.
