Murray breezes through in Madrid

Murray's last win came against Fernando Gonzalez in New York
British number one Andy Murray made a confident start to his Madrid Masters campaign with a convincing win over Spanish qualifier Ivan Navarro Pastor.
Murray broke twice in the opening set and once in the second on his way to a 6-2 6-4 win - his first tour victory since the US Open last month.

The Scot will face a tough task against third seed Ivan Ljubicic in round two.

Fellow Briton Tim Henman takes on Spain's Fernando Verdasco in his opening match at 1900 BST on Monday.

Murray broke serve in the fourth and eighth games, taking the first set with a delicate lob as he swept through the opening set.

Pastor, ranked 129 in the world, put up sterner resistance in the second but cracked under the pressure when serving to stay in the match.

A cross-court forehand winner gave Murray victory on his second match point, after Pastor had saved the first with a net-cord.

Congrats to Murray! But the chances of him making it past the 2nd round are against him, let's hope for a win against Ljubicic. Go Andy! :worship:

He looked pretty good, I doubt he'll beat Ljubicic though

Aww, mixed emotions for me. Ivan (Navarro Pastor not Ljubicic) is one of my favourites so I'm sad for him.
At least he didn't lose to the part time wizardry of Rascon in qualies like RRH! :)

Good performance from Murray. Ljubicic should pose a tougher test in the next round.

Murray is very good indoors. It is a shame he has such a tough draw, with the right draw he could go deep.

Navarro has an interesting game - serve and volley on 1st serve or 3 meters behind baseline on 2nd..

I thought it was quite an enjoyable if routine match - Murray played some great shots and pastor played some delightful volleys.

Pity the next match wont be so enjoyable with craft playing vs brute force ;)

Ljubu should win at this stage in their respective careers but if murray manages to work his returns and serve like he did in the 1st set he has a decent shot - bummer really that he keeps meeting players in sparkling form

I think Murray can beat Ljubo. This early in the tourney, Murray can beat just about anyone. He hits GREAT on the run and with fresh legs, he can stick it to just about anyone. I'm calling it. Murray in 3.
