Roddick will beat Gasquet easily :o

Gasquet is playing really crap at the moment
it seems his match against Hewitt didn t do him a lot of good

Is it the same as in the Davis Cup?

All the Argentines got a bad draw this week. The only who had a good draw was Monaco and he had to retire with an unjury on his right knee.
Of course, Nalbandian is in the 2nd round.

Good match for Andy. The next match has the potential to be interesting. Andy will come to play and I hope Gasquet does too though Gasquet's return of serve is not that great.

Aren't Calleri and Acasuso top 25 or 30 now? How come they weren't seeded and had to face the top seeds in the first round? . It's too bad as they really need some indoor practice for the Davis final.

Djokovic is the 8th seed and he's in the Top 20.

Very strong field in here.

good start for him, hopefully he can go out and play his own game against Gasquet and not worry about what his oppo has in his locker.

Acasuso showed up to the party in the middle of the second set but it was too late then.

Good solid win for Roddick - nice serving and some good play.

Nice job, Andy :)

But I wish he didn't have to play Gasquet so soon into the tournament. I hope Richie plays well..

I got it right in the pool. More breaks than a WTA match.

From the end of the first set on.

Chucho was useless until the second set when he slowly started to serve and generally play better.

Andy was hardly touched on serve at all though, but couldn't get a break on Acasuso in the second - but comfortably took the breaker - he always looked like the winner. Some great serving from him and some nice play too - some baseline rallies but also looking to get up the court still and take the ball on.

Played well. He'll need to against Gasquet, who's no slouch indoors.

thanks :) I assumed that Acasuso was useless in the first, I was more curious about Andy's forehand and whether it was still as awful as it was during most of the USO :(

I didn't notice anything glaring about it so it can't have been too bad.

Both serving big in that second set though so very few protracted rallies so I didn't get a chance to see it all that much :)

Gasquet will give it a sterner examination, you'd expect.

Yes because if his FH is weak and puffy like it has been, and if he's camping out in the BH corner, Gasquet will just crush his BH DTL all match long. Then again that's what Acasuso did to him at RG last year but that's clay. But yea if Andy's fh is not hard and deep Gasquet should enjoy that

I think Gasquet's going to have his hands full getting into Roddick service games, though - and Richard does go on mental walkabouts at times and throws his own serve.

Should be a good match - hope Eurosport manage to show it.

Great match for Andy, his serve came well!!! :bounce:
That huge bagel in the first set was tasty and unexpected :lick: and even more important he finished the match in the 2nd set!

Perfect example that you can lose a set in a tiebreak and still have not the slightest chance at all to win it. Acasuso no break points, let alone a break - the whole match long.

When Roddick serves like that on a non-clay surface, he is very difficult to beat if your name isn't Federer. Even though Vienna doesn't have the fastest of surfaces, Roddick serving at 78% will make him near impossible to break.

Congrats Andy, more important than the bagel is the fact that he won the 2nd set after Chucho raised his level.

No surprises there. Roddick is far better than Acasuso outside clay.

But way to go, Andy. :yeah:

I have seen the match. Roddick served well, but apart from that he was not that impressive. Acasuso was weak, many unforced errors, though he stepped it up a bit in the seocnd set. A deserved win for Roddick, but far from brilliant.
