Masters Cup holder and world No. 4 David Nalbandian has confirmed his participation for the 2007 Chennai Open. The tournament, in its 12th year, will be held at the SDAT Stadium at Nungambakkam from January 1 to 7.

Tournament Director Fernando Soler said, "David's confirmation to participate in the Chennai Open 2007, is a coup and a wonderful opportunity for sports fans to watch the defending Champion of last year's Shanghai World Masters Cup and one of the most consistent players on the ATP tour from close quarters. Confirmation from a player of his potential so much in advance will definitely go a long way in attracting good talent and making Chennai Open 2007, a roaring success."

In 2005, the Argentine finished in Top 10 for third consecutive season capped off by winning the biggest title of his career at season-ending Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai.

Nalbandian came into the Masters Cup in Shanghai (in place of injured Roddick) and captured the title by winning four of the five matches, overcoming a two-sets deficit in the final to beat Roger Federer in a fifth set tie-break.

He thus became the first Argentine to win year-end championships since 1974 when Guillermo Vilas won Masters Title. He has won 5 ATP titles and has a career singles record of 207-101.

Looks like Nalbo is taking his Aussie Open preparation very seriously next year. Thanks for the news.
Call me harsh if you want but with his history of pulling out of tournaments, until he steps out on court there I won't believe it.

he will be playing an exhibition with nadal in december 31st in qatar or some place like that ,once he is there, he is close to china to play some tennis before the aussie open, appart from that, a good amount of money must have been offered to him, at least that is what i think.
or maybe he wants to do a good preparation for DC tie, which will be close to the aussie open, i think that is on the following week.

Both of them will play an exhibition in December 31st in Thailand, then play in Chennai Open in the following week. It seems we is having a newly wed.

My friend and I have plan to go to the airport to welcome them.

Argentine girl or anyone else can you confirm this exhibition. This article seems to indicate that it has been cancelled.

In other news, it looks certain that a planned December exhibition match between Rafael Nadal and David Nalbandian will be cancelled.

i hope he will take preparation for slams and opens very seriously. he usually gets good results in the tournaments without taking it quite seriously ... so more seriously, much better then.

That seems like a decent draw. With the exception of Nadal and Dave the playerfield does not look that impressive. Let's hope he can take advantage of that. Vamos Dave!

Well, that was a short tournament. I watched the match and still don't get how he managed to lose this one. He came out on fire, his shots were perfect, he had great depth and then he just...I still have no clue what he did then. He went from very good to nothing special in a heartbeat. Great match for Kristian but you should have won this one, Dave. *shakes head* Let's hope the AO brings him more luck!

This is David, guys.
He's like that: he destroys Safin and Davydenko and lost against Pless (who always caused him troubles, specially the past year).

He's frustrating as hell, but he's talented. As I said at the general forum, NOW I have no doubts about David reaching some GS final. That's typical of him :D

If you're a fan of David, you know you mantra must be "Don't Worry"

:haha: We'd all by in an asylum by now if we didn't have that mantra. I agree though, this says nothing for his season but it was frustrating to watch. Even if it was expected...I'm still working on that mantra here...;) I can't help it, I just want him to win all the time but then I better support Feds I guess. Nah...I'm sticking by you, Dave. Don't worry!

I agree with you Galathea, we know this, but sometimes it's difficult to accept it.

Everybody can def David, and David can def everybody, it just depends on David and his days

Very bad news:
According to Yahoo news, he has a tendinitis on his left leg again.
It affected him today a lot, that was what he said after the match and that he wish to be fit for AO

We know that he's one of the player that doesn't go around saying he was injured when he's not. Probably because he suffered a lot of injuries and knows that you can't mess with that (better say you played like crap, but not to blame an unexistant injury, just in case the next time you got injured for real )

Here's the link that's going around in a lot of forums: http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/02012007/3/tennis-nalbandian-australian-open-fitness-race.html

I hope he manages to get fit before the AO starts but it does explain that match. I saw the whole thing and couldn't for the life of me figure out why his level dropped like that. Now I get it. I hope he get's well soon. Damn it, poor Dave.

I was probably a bit harsh up there, since he is aparently injured and all. but this wasn't exactly the beginning of season I expected from him.

Oh well ...I should know better. I was also a bit pissed, cause i'm still waiting for the Nalbandian/Nadal match to happen.

Maybe in Australia, at the final, who knows. :spit:
