Volandri is on fire. That's for sure, guyz. I'm wondering whether or not (he) is playing like a top-10 on clay, right now. What do you thing about it ?

In the meantime...take this (http://pemulis.blogspot.com/2006/10/italian-hopeful-players-have-mixed.html), please.

cheers

Hey buddy, another Filo fan  He has regained his clay form now and he has been brilliant for the last couple of months. I think now he can relax and concentrate on a good start to next year. Im not sure if hes top 10 clay courter, he has the abilities, but he has only reached 3rd round at most in Roland Garros (more due to bad luck).

Pippo has the abilities to reach good results on clay. If he yet improves his services he will a treat for many next year.

i also see Volandri as a top10 claycourter... but he struggles at RG and cant pass the QF of the clay TMS
maybe next year he will break new ground in those events.

In those days (Monte Carlo, Rome, French Open) he was out of his shape to say the least. I would say: let's give him a chance and see what will happen the next year.

he has lost 2 qf's in monte carlo and 1 at hamburg, also plays good in his home event in rome...

Pippo is top10 on clay.. probably not top100 on any other surface :o

He made the quarters in Rome back in 2003 as well, losing a three-setter to Federer. In fact, here are the players he's lost to in Rome over the last five years: Robredo, Federer, Nalbandian, Gaudio, Nadal. Trouble is, while he's good for a decent run in a TMS the lack of cheap points on serve really starts to hurt over five sets, that must be a major reason why his best Slam result is only one third round at RG last year.

yeah and even then didnt he WD from that 3rd round match ar RG if i recall...

Yes, I think he had a wrist injury and retired after going 3-0 down against Acasuso, whom he doesn't like playing anyway.

I think if Filo stays in shape he can have a good year next year. Top 20 overall is too far I think, but hopefully he can get back to the top 30 with a good performance in a GS or Master Series.

Maybe he should just learn to serve...

Volandri is a loser at heart whose only achievements till the end of his ordinary career will be another couple of crappy clay titles. He's just one of the many. Useless junk

That's the worst common place and the dumbest thing I ever heard. so sorry.
Just a question: Who's the Croatian best ranked female player ?
Uhmhmhmh..let me think...Maybe Kostanic ? or Sprem ? or Lisjak ? the little sister Sanja ?
Talking in the same way I could say "Tennis in not a Croatian Sport", but I won't. coz it's a very poor argument, IMO.

Still friends, guys. but do not trash talk about Italians. OK ? ;-)

I think it is the worst comment simply because Volandri has reached number 28 in his career. You need to be more than just useless junk to ever be a top 30 player. Indeed you need to be more than useless junk to be top 100.

He had a real chance to make a deep run at 2005 Roland Garros, in the quarter with the dopers. He at least should have made the 4th round beating Acasuso, who was much worse back then, but had to retire with some injury? He's not in good health enough, and of course the serve is such a liability. I would love to see him follow up on these results next season.

as mentioned before he is good enough clay courter but appears to miss that drive on other surfaces to become an established player
