I know there are bits and pieces to do with Jamie, in Andy's forum but thought it would be nice for him to have his own

Funnily enough, I am currently looking at unis, and Stirling, where he trains is one that we are looking at as a serious candidate! :D

Jamie is currently ranked 90 in the world in doubles (his highest ranking ever). His usual partner on the challenger circut is Colin Fleming.

The challenger where I saw him, he partnered with Paul Capdeville because his and Colin's ranking was not high enough. I'll post my photos from the challenger:

I've never had the opportunity to see Jamie play or follow much of his career to date. I'd be interested to hear on others opinions on his game and his prospects. Will he be a doubles specialist and does he have the potential to reach the top?

If you are keen on sports then Stirling would be a great choice. It has excellent sporting facilities

Getting back to Jamie now though i really hope we see him and Andy playing doubles against Netherlands next year. He is a great talent and should be given all the help he can get to get into the top 50 or wherever in doubles

Jaime and Andy lost their doubles match against Jim Thomas and Paul Goldstein 7-6, 6-1. They reached the semifinals which is pretty good. Let's hope Jaime's doubles ranking can continue to rise. :)

When I saw him play, he was playing with Paul Capdeville and they reached the quarters. I think this was their first time playing with each other. You could tell that Jaime was a lot more comfortable out there than Paul was. I really think he could be a solid top 50 doubles player or even higher depending if he gets the right partner.

Elder Murray aims for cup double

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42350000/jpg/_42350688_murraybros203.jpg

Jamie Murray teams up with brother Andy for the second annual Scotland-England clash hoping to cement a regular place in Britain's Davis Cup team.
The pair take on Greg Rusedski and James Auckland, Britain's second ranked doubles player, as part of the 2006 Aberdeen Cup, starting on Saturday.

"It's a great chance for us," said 21-year-old Jamie.

"We're up against a strong pairing in Greg and James, so it's a great opportunity to show what we can do."

Murray will play three times over the weekend, beginning with a singles match against Aukland, followed by the doubles with Andy and a mixed doubles with Elena Baltacha.

The Murray brothers have been tipped as a potential Davis Cup pairing under captain John Lloyd.

And Jamie, already Britain's top-ranked doubles player, is relishing the chance to team up with his younger brother after some promising outings on the ATP Tour this year.

"Last year's Aberdeen Cup was the first time we'd played alongside each other in quite a while and we've since gone on to play together three or four times on the ATP Tour," he said.

"It's been good fun and we've played pretty well as a team.

"We managed to get to the final in Bangkok and the quarters in Tokyo.

"We lost the final in Bangkok on a final set tie-break and had some good wins to get that far so we were pleased with how we performed."

Jamie finished the year at a career-high world No.77 in the ATP doubles rankings and has decided to focus his efforts on this form of the game.

"My aim is to be one of the top doubles players in the world," he said.

"I want to be playing at the very highest level for years to come. Doubles is definitely where I see myself making a career in the sport."

Jamie and Andy are now Britain's top-ranked players in doubles and singles respectively.

Their busy playing schedules have kept them apart for much of the 2006 season.

But Jamie is looking forward to being reunited with his brother and leading Scotland to the retention of the cup following last year's 4.5-2.5 victory in the Granite City's at the AECC Press and Journal Arena.

"It's good to be back," he said. "We had a great time last year and the event was a big success."

Murrays Fight to Win Doubles Game

Andy and Jamie Murray reached the second round of the doubles at the Qatar Open by beating Marcos Baghdatis and Stanislas Wawrinka in a tie-break.

The brothers fought back after losing the first set to win 4-6 6-1 10-5 under the new Champions tie-break format.

The new tie-break is played instead of the third set to speed matches up, with the winner being the first to 10.

Andy will return to singles action on Wednesday when he plays Belgian Christophe Rochus in round two.

The 19-year-old Scot, who is suffering from a bad cold, beat Italian Filippo Volandri in blustery and cold conditions on Monday.

And the fourth seed is hoping the weather improves on Wednesday.

"The conditions were tough for both of us. It was very cold and a bit of wind too," he said.

"I know coming from Scotland I should be used to such conditions but playing at night under the floodlights made it more difficult."

Not wishing to offend any Delgado fans but from what I've seen of him in doubles, Jamie M isn't exactly getting an equal in terms of doubles ability. Jamie D in both previous Davis Cup doubles matches was pretty poor, esp. against the Ukraine were his lack of power and ability to put away simple volleys was obvious. :o

Jamie Wants Murray Doubles for GB

Jamie Murray hopes a strong showing at the Australian Open will help reignite his doubles partnership with his brother at the Davis Cup.

The doubles specialist will compete in Melbourne without his younger sibling, Andy, who has now chosen to play singles only at Grand Slams.

But Jamie, who will partner German Benjamin Becker in Australia, wants to join Andy in Great Britain's team.

"I feel I deserve the chance in the (Davis Cup) team," he told BBC Sport.

"I have proved I can compete and have success on the ATP Tour by reaching two finals (California and Bangkok) and a semi-final (Doha) in my last five events.

"By the time the tie comes around in April against the Netherlands, I will hopefully have improved my game and my ranking further.

"My goal for the season is to finish in the top 30 (doubles rankings) which I think is very realistic, but to do this it is important to win some matches at the Grand Slams which is where the big points are."

The 20-year-old reached the final of the Bangkok Open and the semi-final in Doha with his younger brother and says that Andy's success has inspired him to a career-high doubles ranking of 66.

"I would of course prefer to play with Andy but I know that is not going to happen as he has to concentrate on his singles," said Murray, who hopes to team up with fellow Briton Jamie Delgado later in the year.

"Not many people have the opportunity to play with their brother at high-level sport and it's great he helps me out getting into tournaments.

"Andy's success has inspired me a lot. I wanted to get to the level he is playing at, playing the Grand Slams and the Masters Series, and I am working hard to achieve that."

The left-hander's improvement over the last six months has been down to work with doubles coach Louis Cayer and has led the Scot to accept that doubles is his best path to replicating his brother's success.

"I always wanted to compete at the highest level in tennis and just now that is in doubles," he said.

"I would much rather be playing the Australian Open than trying to grind out wins on the Futures Tour to try to pick up some singles points."

Jamie Murray wins doubles title

Jamie Murray claimed the first doubles title of his career with a 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 10-7 tie-break win in the final of the AT&T Challenger tournament.

The 20-year-old, the older brother of British number one Andy, was partnered by American Eric Butorac for the win over Rajeev Ram and Bobby Reynolds.

The pair did not drop a set on their way to the final, despite it being only their second tournament together.

The victory takes Murray up to 65th in the doubles world rankings.

"Jamie practised a lot against Eric on grass courts and they became quite good friends, so they teamed up," said Murray's mother Judy.

"This was only their second event together - the first was in Los Angeles last year, when they reached the final and lost to the Bryans.

"So it's a good start for them and it will take Jamie's ranking up to 65, which will be the highest yet."

Murray and Butorac broke their opponents' serve in the third game of the first set and then held to claim the first set 6-4 in Dallas.

Ram and Reynolds hit back in the second set, taking it on a tie-break to set up a first-to-10-points championship tie-break, but Murray and Butorac held their nerve.

Aucks and Jamie Murray both like to play on the same side of the doubles court which is a bit of an issue plus John Lloyd doesn't want to pick two doubles specialists.

Jamie has appetite for slice of Murray pie

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00141/murray1_141779a.jpg

"You always want to beat your brother don’t you?” Unfortunately for Jamie Murray, he has not managed that feat since his younger sibling, Andy, was about 14. As the younger Murray has charged up the world rankings to his present position of No 13, Jamie has remained in the background, grinding it out in the chase for those elusive ranking points.

The world’s No 2-ranked junior as a 12-year-old, Jamie looked on course to be the next British hope, but an unhappy spell at an LTA school in Cambridge knocked his confidence. Short stays in France and Spain did not suit him and Jamie lost his way.

But, in the week of his 21st birthday, Jamie stands at No 65 in the doubles world rankings, poised to become Britain’s top-ranked doubles player and on the verge of the top 50. He and Eric Butorac, his American partner, play in the semi-finals here today and the left-hander, nicknamed “chicken wings”, reportedly because of his long arms, is now earning headlines in his own right.

I'm not expecting an awful lot from this, remember that Jamie/Eric are a fairly rookie team and they're going up against the very best doubles pairs who have been around for years. But I think this would be an unbelievable experience for them to try and get in as deep into the draw as they possibly could.

A commentator whom I was listening to just now mentioned that the Indian Wells courts are awfully slow; I'm not sure if that would affect the doubles as much as it would affect the singles though.

An article on Jamie from the BBC:

Move Over Andy

It is 16 years since mixed doubles duo Jo Durie and Jeremy Bates became the last Britons to grace the roll call of Grand Slam winners.

Ask anyone who is most likely to end Britain's drought and the answer is simple, isn't it? It has to be Andy Murray.

Well, maybe not, because Jamie Murray could yet steal his brother's thunder and stake his claim to become Britain's next Grand Slam champion.

In a meteoric rise similar to that of his younger brother, Jamie, 21, has climbed from outside the top 200 to 43 in the world doubles rankings in less than a year, picking up ATP Tour titles in San Jose and Memphis along the way.

And while Andy battles to break Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal's stranglehold in singles, Jamie has chosen to operate exclusively in the more open doubles arena.

Top-ranked American doubles pairing Bob and Mike Bryan have won four of the last 13 Grand Slams, whereas in singles Federer has won nine and Nadal two.

So should British fans have a flutter on a Jamie Murray Grand Slam victory?

"It could be a good bet," agrees Jamie, who is surprisingly chipper for first thing in Miami. "And you'd probably get some good odds too!

"I've never thought about if I could win a Slam before Andy because either one of us could be first.

"Andy is bordering on the top 10 now so when the Grand Slams come round he is up there amongst the favourites, but in the doubles there is more scope for an upset.

"With Federer and Nadal, when he is on clay, it is more predictable whereas the doubles is more open. The Bryans have dominated but they still lose.

"They are losing more matches than Federer so there is always a chance and I'll be trying my best."

Born just 15 months apart, the Murray brothers' close relationship has helped fuel their rise the top of the British game.

Both were encouraged by mother Judy, a former Scottish national coach, to take up tennis at the same time, when Jamie was four and Andy three.

At the age of 12, Jamie left their Dunblane home for an LTA school in Cambridge, an experience which Andy later furiously claimed "ruined" his brother and convinced him not to make the same mistake.

"It's not true that I was badly treated by the LTA," said Jamie, who admits the experience did disastrously weaken his forehand and leave him disillusioned.

"But what happened to me did influence Andy going to Spain (to train at Barcelona's Sanchez-Casal Academy). He did something different to other British players, it was the basis for him to find his game and it is paying off now."

In turn, Andy's confident rise to the cusp of the world's top 10 has now helped restore Jamie's enthusiasm.

The Scottish siblings try to compete at the same events as much as possible, are occasional doubles partners and Andy's coach Brad Gilbert is happy to share his advice.

When Andy won the singles title in San Jose and Jamie followed suit by claiming the doubles, Andy described it as "the proudest day of my life".

"How well Andy has been doing has helped inspire me to get to the level that he is playing at week in week out," said Jamie, who also shares his younger brother's relaxed drawl.

"Brad helps me out quite a bit and comes to watch my matches. It's good to be able to look up and see Brad Gilbert cheering for you. It's motivating, that's for sure."

A joint Murray brothers Grand Slam is on hold for now while Andy concentrates on the singles, but Jamie plans to reap further rewards from his partnership with American Eric Butorac.

The two "lefties" first played together in Los Angeles in 2006 but became a serious double act - nicknamed "Stretch and Booty" by Gilbert - after the Australian Open.

"Eric and I are working out pretty good," said Murray. "We have good chemistry and plan to play for the rest of the season together.

"I want to get into the world top 10 and play in the Masters Series and the Grand Slams. I've started to get to that level, so it's exciting."

And what about the Grand Slam Murray v Murray wager? "I'll do my best," Jamie signs off with a laugh.

Jamie is now truly a hardcore doubles player - his last singles points dropped off this week so he no longer has a ranking in that!

Jamie and Booty play unseeded Behrend/Wassen second match on Pista 2 from 12 noon today. Wassen will want his revenge, no doubt!

jitterbug
04-12-2007, 04:12 PM
Jamie and Booty lost to Brehrend/Wassen in straight sets, 6-3 7-6(3). Rain delay interrupted the match at 2*-5 in the first set; the boys held on to their serve after play resumed but lost the set.

They were broken early in the second but showed great guts by breaking back while the opponents were serving for the match at 4-5*. The match was taken to a second-set tiebreak but unfortunately today was not their day.

If I'm not mistaken Jamie is playing in Monte Carlo with Andy as his combined ranking with Eric isn't high enough to qualify them for the main draw. Hoping for better results there :D

This is from Andy's webmaster, who updates us with Jamie's schedule when he could. It's not definite though, coz signing up for the doubles is pretty much touch-and-go (re: the disappointment in Vegas)

Hey guys

You'll see on the homepage (in a few minutes) that I've posted a mini preview interview with Jamie that I did in Roehampton this morning. I know that you guys were intrigued to see Jamie's schedule in the near future. Well, wonder no more. This is his rough idea of what he's going to be doing:

Valencia

Monte Carlo

Barcelona

Estoril

Rome / Hamburg

Pörtschach

Doesn't work like that, purely based on team performance, together..

Doesn't it work literally like the word sounds: Eric's doubles ranking + Jamie's doubles ranking, then it's compared to the rest of the field? If it's purely based on team performance then how did Aspelin/Knowle get seeded seventh in Monte Carlo given that they only have a 3-2 record together?
