I think that's a good idea Mimi,I think he would do very well playing golf and I we would get to see him more often in the news,do you pick up American channels in your country Mimi? there will be a feature of Pete this saturday on FOX SPORT at 8pm, it is call Beyond The Glory, hope you guys can see it, I wont miss it for the world.

yes i think pete can be a good golfer, this carrer is longer than tennis, he can play till 55 :D

here in HK, we have very little tennis coverage, so i subscribed for a paid cable tv but it also does not show too much tennis, just grand slams, year end championship and other important tourneys like Toronto, Hamburg etc, but never women's tennis :(

i cannot watch this Fox programme, i envy of you so much, please tell us what pete looks like and what he said afterwards, thanks :D :worship:  :wavey:

Yeah, Pete will be very professional at his best in anything he does. But I don't think he loves golf just as the way he was passionate about tennis.

you are most welcome Lalitha :worship: :)

yes i think with his mental toughness and concentration, pete can do the sport which he loves good :worship: , luckily he plays tennis, otherwise tiger wood cannot win 8 slams

tomorrow i will be under pressure, coz i need to serve 2 bosses (i work as a secretary in a lawyers' firm), my colleague in front will be on leave for some days during this month  , both my and her bosses are fierce, so may be i cannot post as often as usual

i am super unlucky  , got lots of work and whats more, the 2 sports chanell of the cabe tv which i used to watch tennis was bought by another new company, i called to cancel my service but was informed that i have signed a one year "discounted contract" which means if i have to cancel, i need to pay the remaining 5 months' fees

i have no us open to watch   , i can join the new co but that means i need to pay more and also i don't want to put another big moderm onto my already small house so most probably i will have no tennis for 5 months coz i intend to join the new co after my old contract was finished

i have written a letter to complain, these cable tv cos are so bad

Hi, Mimi,

Too much work? but you can handle it, Happy weekend to you! :)

Mimi
07-30-2004, 02:40 AM
thanks Lalitha :)

but its not that my current cable company can change their mind or not, it was that these 2 sports channels: ESPN and Stars Sports were now bought by another new cable company, i guess the new company offers higher price, the bad staff told me that in our contract, it is written taht the cable company can cancel or add more channels   , i have not noticed this

hello blueriver :)

i only noticed that we both are Chinese :wavey: , but I live in HK :wavey:

yes its the starports and ESPN which the paid cable tv provide, now the broadcasting was bought by another new cable tv so i have no coverage for us open   , whats worst, i learnt that the old cable tv still provides coverage for French Open while the new company provide for the 3 others  , what a mess, does it mean i need to pay for both   , no i won't, so i think i will join the new cable tv next year and miss the french open

weekend? i also need to work, i only have one saturday off for every one month

but a nice weekend to you :), bye bye, need to work :wavey:

Hi you guys I watch the documentary of Pete last night and it was wonderful you guys should have seen it, I am sorry you guys could'nt have seen it for yourselves, my one problem was that it was too short just a hour long I get goose bumps watching it. Let me tell you some of what I saw, it open by showing him winning the 2002 US open and the difficulties leading up to it, his loss of motivations and drives, the press and his marriage as a distraction. Then it was him winning the US open that start him off to stardom and how they put American tennis into his hands from then on, (which he carry beautifully I might add) they show him winning the 1993 wimbledon and Princess Di rooting for him to win and the British press getting on him about him being boring (that where all this boring talk started, the British dont have anything better to talk about because they themselves cannot win at anything, if you see what I mean) the most touching part of the whole film was about his coach Tom Gullickson ( he died of cancer in 1996) and the relationship they had together, hear how he took this super talented shy boy and turn him into the one of the biggest name in sports history, his sister say when Tom died Pete almost quit tennis because he was so devastated.

No Angiel, Asia has a different coverage of ESPN. We don't get to see the same programms like that in US. Here they show most of the sport that is popular in Asia.

angiel
07-30-2004, 05:39 AM
What do you watch tennis coverage on Lalitha, like the grand slams and master series, here in the US the first three grand slams are shown on ESPN and the master series, then the US open is carry by different channels so what do you get the US open on in Asia?

very nice to meet you here :wavey: , yes life in HK is very busy, now many unemployment and watching the news about people commit suicide makes me sad  .

What do you watch tennis coverage on Lalitha, like the grand slams and master series, here in the US the first three grand slams are shown on ESPN and the master series, then the US open is carry by different channels so what do you get the US open on in Asia?

Angiel, We have three different sports channel in India. Star Sports, ESPN and Ten Sports.

Aus open, US Open & Wimbly are shown in Star Sports. The RG is shown in Ten Sports. And the TMS is shown only from the QF stages in either Star sports or ESPN. But the TMS in Canada are not shown and so now I'm not able to watch any tennis at all.

Regarding other small tournaments, if it's in US they show a delayed telecast of FSN and if there is'nt any popular Asian sport happening at that moment, they will show live.

but i have no other choice, i cannot find another job with this salary under this economic decline  , may be when i cannot stand any more, i sell my house and go to live in mainland china where the living costs is lower :wavey:

oh my god, my post to blueriver was lost, i have to type again

hello blueriver :D

well, when i was younger, i needed to work till 2-3 a.m. sometimes :wavey: , its because my boss works mostly for the listinig of companies in the stock exchange, so many works to do, but since she becomes the big boss and hires more assistant lawyers to help her, she has less work, that means i also have less works ;)

my boss was nice when i was younger, she changes to a evil person after she becomes the big boss  , always scold me, always say i got such a high salary but with little work  , i don't like this work at all but i have no choice (please see my post to Lalitha)

yes I have nothing against Roger but i am so worried that pete's records will be broken soon, i guess so, coz roger is only 23

i was rooting for Roddick as well coz my mum likes him ;). She likes Pete, goran and chang before but now they were all retired, she supports roddick instead but seems no one can beat Roger

no your english is much better than mine :worship: :worship:

Glad there are working people here, :D

Mimi, I think working in a law firm is interesting, ;) maybe the workload is too much...you must have a lot of working experiences :worship: :worship: ..Living cost is so high in HK?

I have been living in shenzhen for 1 year, I like there..It is very close to HK...

Angiel, we mean Federer gonna break Pete's 24 consecutive wins record, Roger has 23 wins on the trot now..So If he wins today, he will equal that  but like you said earlier, the current star may not shine the brightest. :D

Pete forever!!!

See ya guys..

hello angiel :)

sorry that mimi is a always worrying chicken heart person :o

i think Pete's six consecutive years as no.1 will never be broken, but i just fear the 14 grand slams will be broken given that Roger is jsut 23, he at least has 6 more years to come, and i always think the measure of greatness is based on the number of slams won, so i just worry about this

You have to give him something nice for his birthday - and I am sorry I am not a fan of Andy at all,I am just going to wait until Christian get big and start playing to watch tennis again (smile), I need to find a job come Sept 1st myself, the lady that I work for is going to New York to live.

You dont watch tennis right now? I was not as passionate as before when pete is still playing..

hello blueriver :D

you are most welcome :wavey:

its not fair, many people said pete = boring because he dominated so much and showed little emotions on court, how about Roger, he behaves the same, but why no one critisise him, he is more popular than Pete, so I am jealous   , Andy is ok for me, i never have the same passion for any one except goran, pete and monica :wavey:

yes to Crotia in September but may be this trip will not work out again, i have bad lucks these days ;), I joined those travelling cos in HK, they need to have 15 people to join before the tour can be successful, now the HK people is getting poor, not good chance for the trip to come out, they simply love to choose those tours with lower costs i.e. to Taiwan, Korea etc :wavey:

yes yesterday i can leave at 6:15 pm, its already very good for me :wavey: but don't worry, if i leave late, i have overtime allowance :wavey:

i have never like agassi but now i wish him to play longer coz he reminds me of the good old days, Pete vs Agassi

hello angiel :wavey:

your loyalty touch me so much :worship: , i always think i am a very rare person coz i am very loyal but seems you are even more loyal than me :worship: :wavey:

you wait Christian to get big  , then you have to wait for more than 15 years  , i still watch tennis but with less passion, but sorry that my old mum supports Andy after Pete and Chang retired :o

sincerely wishing you to find a good job soon :wavey:

Mimi, dont make me laugh about Roger being more popular than Pete was,who ever gave you that idea, and where is he most popular,in europe or america?ask most people in this country and they dont know who Federer is,did you know that if Andy was'nt in the Wimbledon finals, nobody this side of the world would'nt of watch, the rating for that final was worse or the same as the ladies finals, and why it was up from the 2003 finals was because of Andy Roddick, most of the country dont have the faintest clues about Federer,Sharapova get tons more press than Roger get Winning Wimbledon, she was on most of the talk shows, even on Sports Illustrated Magazine Cover and the newspapers front pages here in the States,it was just regular news about Roger here, there was a newspaper columnist saying Roger is so dull he makes Pete look like "Cedric the Entertainer",so dont be jealous Mimi and why they are not critizising Roger is because poeple dont care about him here and he is not an American.

Hey guys,do you know about ACE tennis magazine from England,it is Britian biggest tennis magazine,I have some back issues of the magazine and there is a lot written about Pete in these issues,he get a lot of covers.

There is the Jan/Feb 2000 issue showing the 20 greatest players of the century,10 men and 10 women and guess who is No.1, Pete Sampras is,there is even an article about him vs Rod laver and he comes out on top also.

Tell you guys more about the magazine if you want the address for it.

Angiel, I did'nt read that article from ACE. But we have a sports magazine here which reprints the same article with permission from ACE.

Pete was undoubtedly the top of the charts. Him not winning RG doesnt seems to be a criteria at all.

hello angiel :D

hey, i got this idea is because whenever I watch Roger’s matches, the fans on court always support him  , while I remember clearly how so few people (I mean outside USA) supported Pete when he was playing   i.e. wimby 99, everyone was supporting Agassi, wimby 95, everyone was supporting Becker …..

here in HK, tennis is not very popular, but still the people love Agassi more than Pete, just like my cousin who now lives in Australia (he immigrated from mainland china to Australia)

also have you ever joined the old wta Sanex board (closed on 2001)? the posters also discuss men’s tennis there, no one support Pete, I always got unpleasant responses when I said Pete is the best etc …. I was so angry ….. Many said he is boring, arrogant which I do not agree

Sorry that I don’t know about ACE tennis? I am happy that he got lots of covers on the tennis magazine, i only got very few with pete on cover, they are my precious, i keep them inside my drawer ;). I also have some of his old matches taped (not too much coz there are very few tennis coverage here in HK, even later I joined a paid cable tv with ESPN and stars sports) :wavey:

I have a US? tennis magazine seems version 1999, they also covered 10 men+10 women’s greatest tennis players, but in no particular order, one person writes about one player, but the person who writes about Laver put him in the highest position, that man is very old, over 70, he said Laver is the greatest that he had ever seen?

angiel
08-06-2004, 09:47 PM
Mimi, Pete got more support outside the US than in it,and how many of Roger matches have you seen that is play in the US,I think is only in England that Pete get less support, watch some of his matches from the Aussie open and see how much support he got when he play down there, did you watch the 2000 wimbledon finals and see how much support Pete got breaking that record, come on Mimi we seem to be watching different sports here,I have three large scrapbooks about Pete and countless magazines from tennis, plus newspaper articles,IN 1999 CNN/SI name Pete as the greatest tennis player of the century and Bjorn Borg as second,ESPN has him as one of the 50 greatest athlete of the century and I could go on and on about all the others who name him the greatest player of all-time,ESPN is currently doing their 25th anniversary celebrations and they have selected 35 athletes for people to vote on to see who are the 25 best in the last 25 years of sports, and there are only four tennis players selected, Pete, John McEnroe, Serena Williams and Martina Navatilova, so Mimi that tell you how popular Pete was dont it, no Andre and no Becker or Rod Laver on that list,so stop worrying about who was or is more popular in tennis,in the end is does'nt matter is how you play the game.

Mimi

hello angiel :wavey:

sorry you know here in HK, being such a small city, sports are not very popular, you know, no place for sports ;) So I don’t know the exact situation for pete’s popularity?

but as i have always read in magazine that Pete hopes that some day people are going to appreciate his tennis and that he does not feel too much respect from people? so i have the impression that he is not very popular in the world which includes USA?

also the bad Mcenroe always critisise him but not agassi

i can see Roger get more support in wimby than Andy?

then may be the people in Australia are more fair, many are simply jealous of him winning so much titles and cheer against him

i have only watched the first set 4:4 of the 2000 wimby final, as there were numerous rain breaks, i thought that the match will be played tomorrow so i turned off the computer and missed pete’s glorious moments, i am still angry about this up till now

i can only buy a magazine calls “Tennis” in HK but its very expensive so i did not buy every month, may be it just happens that when there is pete on cover, i did not notice?

how could espn choose Serena Willaims and not Graf (although I don’t like her because of her cool character and monica, for sure her achievements are much better than Serena??)

but still i think pete is more popular for the journalists./tv commentators and less popular as for fans, agassi has more friends than him that i am always jealous

but you are right, at the end, winning is more important than popularity :wavey: :worship:

i prefer to be Pete and not Anna ;) :p

I love pete a lot Mimi, maybe because he is part Greek and not all American, do you ever notice how most Americans are so false and they leave a bad image everywhere they go? I think I can relate to Pete more than I can most of America, I dont think he has a false bone in his body, here is a very rich and famous person, and most people would never know it unless someone say so.

He is a real and genuine person and I just cannot stand people who pretend to be what they are not. What time is it in Hong Kong now, monday seem so far away is just thursday here in the States.

hello angiel, i am still there, in office, its HK time, friday, 13 august (bad Friday  ) 12:08 pm in the afternoon :wavey:

yes i know pete is greek, i have no doubt that he has no american blood coz his skin is not white :wavey: , i know his wedding is a greek style :wavey: , throwing dishes on floor after dancing right

yes pete is honest, genuine and polite, he is what he is, and he never does things just to praise people, like blowing kisses ;), he was meant to win on court, no "special" act like others ;)

Bush is typically a hypocrite and sorry if you like him, i hate him so much, he generates the war

Thank you Mimi, you make my day and I am still laughing about Andre bald head, and yes pressure can make you lose your hair, he has being playing tennis from he was 6 years old.

He say he put so much pressure on himself to stay number one for so many years, his hair falls out, but do you notice how much hair he has on his body, maybe he will get his hair back now that he stop playing.

No I am not a friend of Mr. Bush, I cannot stand the man at all, he is the worse president of the US, he is a big fat liar and a thief. I hope he gets voted out come this election in november, else we are all going to be in serious trouble the world over.

He is going to get what he deserved soon, dont be sorry.

 Okay Lalitha, but I think Pete would have found someone else to be his rival if Andre was not around, so I will not thank him, I dont think Pete did really needed him to bring his best out, why do you think he is still playing and Pete could retired and Pete is a year younger than him.

People only say that, but a lot dont really believe it, most think he is still playing because he is still trying to catch up with Pete.

Sorry but he is still fake.

angiel

Mimi

i always think Pete is better than Agassi even though he is still winning at such old age ;). Pete could still do the same i think, just that he has nothing to prove so he retired :worship:

i am confused, i am jealous of seeing andre still winning titles, now he has 59, closed to pete's 64  , also he has won 800 matches, while pete just has 764  , but seeing him playing reminds me of the golden old age where pete and chang were still around .....

Mimi, Andre has being playing the game longer that Pete has, Andre join the tour two years before did and he is still playing two years after he stop playing, Andre join in 1986 and pete join in 1988, so of course he will have more wins than Pete, but look at their win - lost ratio and Pete is way above Andre, this is Andre 18 years on the tour.

Mimi
08-13-2004, 08:24 AM
win-lost ration is still pete better :D, then its good :D

sometimes i wish pete is still there, at least playing a small tourey and beat andre again

although i don't like andre, still have respect for him coz its not easy to play on tour for so long :worship:

Pete might be a republican, but I dont think he likes how Mr. Bush is running the country, in his recent interview, they ask him something about what kind of world he wants his little boy to grow up in, and what his concerns about the future? this is what he says - Well, I hope this is a much safer place. how we're getting there, it is'nt for me to say. This stuff is always tricky. I always thought those were two things you dont talk about, religion and politics. My parents raised me in a pretty conservative way. that's kind of my direction

They also asked him if he vote - he say he - I haven't voted. I dont think I'm even registered to vote. I jusy haven't make it a priority. So saying he does'nt share our opinions may not be so at all at lots of republicans are also fed up of Mr. Bush antics.

I think Pete is just a very private person and decides to keep his opinions to himself, not wanting to start heated debates one way or another.

I think you are right about that RonE, I was reading Pete news today and there is an article about this same issue, I will finish reading the article and tell you what it said.

RonE I read the article and the writer was talking about athletes speaking their minds or rather this stupid American football player calling other players gay buy just looking at them, and he goes on to say Tiger Woods and Pete Sampras alway stays silent, never take a stand, never say anything that might offend others, and that it was too bad for them to do that, because they are seen as robots, not humans and that we barely knew them.

Apparently Mr, Andrew Seligman think the football player is revolting but he sees nothing wrong with it, to go around bashing and talking trash about other people and all the other athlete should do the same, to get more attention, as he called it.

Yeah Angiel, it's sad how in order to make the headlines in sports these days you have to have a really big sewer pipe for a mouth, otherwise people label you as 'boring'.

That's the America sports culture which is very sickening.

I am with you all the way Mimi, now a days if you dont tell the world all of your life story, what you eat for dinner, what you and your wife did during the nights at home, go out and murdered or **** somebody, or just behaved badly to others, you are not cool as they calls it these days.

I just dont get it at all, and in this country they are obsess with other people lives, and there are so much going on in the world for us to pay attention to. The most things I watch on TV these days are sports, because every TV channels just bombard you with trivails things that are not important, or will make you a better person.

Mimi

agreed completely with angiel :worship:

also the reporters have to played a part, i.e. Beckham etc, i think they follow him everywhere and make him too high  , may be he is a good person indeed but i cannot stand all the things about him, just like ordering a LV milk bottle for his son, his wife only eat strawberries, i think, oh god, i am so tired of him

angiel
08-19-2004, 04:38 AM
These reporters are like vultures Mimi, they get a whole of you and they dont let go, look what they have done to Princess Di and others, as for the Beckhams that how they get their kicks to feel good about themselves, I am not sorry for people like him and his wife.

You would have think that this guy has really done something, give me a break but I am with you, I am tired of him too.

Mimi
08-20-2004, 02:46 AM
yes now the reporters in HK behave the same, they follow the super stars everywhere and pictured down their private life/ugly side  . I think these kind of behaviour is very bad, don’t ever think of every reader is as busybody as them!

poor Princess Di, I could not forget her, how kind and beautiful she was, but so unlucky the same, dumped by the horse like bad Charles, treated badly by the bad Hewitt, and at last died like this ……

but I think even if Beckham retires from football, he may go to Hollywood, so oh god, we have to stand him for very very long times, lol! :p

angiel

Mimi, David is not a big thing in the US, so no we will not see him in hollywood, I done think so, he came to the State a few times and the Americans gave him the cold shoulders.

But tell me, what is he going to do here in hollywood anyway? be an actor - please Mimi, it needs a better actor than Beckham to make it in hollywood these days.

Maybe he will just retires and go live in timbuktoo with his family (smile).

Mimi

here in HK and asian region, beckham is a great name ;)

the only city became crazy when the Real Madrid came to HK last August ;).

poor david is not well known in usa

i don't know, i always read that he wants to be an actor after retirement  ,also he does a lot of advertisements

but i only find him goodlooking when he was at about 23, he got old too quickly :p

angiel
08-20-2004, 07:42 AM
Maybe he can go live in your country Hong Kong, when he retires Mimi and why are you feeling sorry for him, not being popular in the US for.

He dont need to come to hollywood to become an actor, there are lots of good actors from England, and they dont live in the States at all, and selling products on TV is one thing, but to become a good actor is a different thing altogether.

But who knows, he might just prove us wrong, he loves the spotlight too much to go out quitely.

Mimi
08-20-2004, 07:53 AM
he will not like lilving in my city coz its not easy for him to find such a big house for his extravagent family to live on ;), HK is way too small ;)

I don't feel sorry for him, I am just being sacrastic  , I think he can become an actor coz seems sometimes it does not need good acting to be an actor/actress i.e. Paris Hilton can also be an actor (well i don't know how he she acts but just that i find her crazy ;))

may be he can be a coach so that he can still get some attention :p

by the way, why pete does not do the coaching, I think its a good job for him :wavey:

angiel

Dont worry, Beckham is not leaving the UK to live anywhere else, and I would not wish him on my worst enemy. And you are right Mimi, now a days everybody is becoming actors and actresses, for their 15 minutes of fame.

They would be better off finding something constructive to do, bur they aren't going to do that at all. Paris Hilton is Beckham second, someone who cant leave the spotlight, some people are just like that, something drastic has to happen for them to stop.

Who is he going to coach anyway, the England team, that I would have to see.

Pete will soon find something good to do, but I dont see him coaching at all.

Mimi
08-23-2004, 03:52 AM
but seems Beckham has now decided to live in Madrid  :wavey:

yes i don't understand why people who love sportlight so much   , i think its because they are so rich, they have everything but do not do constructive things, they are so foolish, this Paris   , also the Britney, so foolish, everyone knows the dancer marries her for monies, have you seen her without cosmetics, wow, very terrible :p

i love pete to do the coaching coz if so, i can see him a lot on tv :wavey:

If we get to know each and everything about them, they won't excite us as they are now. They will become ordinary people just like u and me.

yes you are right but still I think they are a little bit different from ordinary people because of their super mental toughness :worship: :worship:

angiel

I do the same as you, I dont waste my money buying pop culture magazines and I skip over that section of the newspaper these days.

I read real news about whats going on in the world.

Mimi
08-24-2004, 04:01 AM
no i don't buy pop magazines, just buy a daily local HK newspaper every day, i cannot totally skip that section, sometimes they have funny news i.e. i read that a British/american? boy only eat milk+sandwich with jams for his whole life, i find it unbelievable, and come on, this boy is so foolihs, why he does not eat other food   :p

Mimi
08-24-2004, 07:04 AM
this boy is 14/15 (could not remember) and he is very tall, almost 6 feet with normal weight (could not remember), i think this is a true story coz he pictured with lots of sandwiches :wavey:

they also interviewed his mum, his mum said when he was a kid, he refused to eat except to drink milk, they were not successful in feeding him other food to eat, but later they found out that he only eat bread with jams

Thank you blueriver, everybody wants their 15 minutes of fame these days, and they will go to any length to get it, the TV is not fun to watch anymore, the newspapers the same thing, if you goes to the supermarkets, the stores, even the pharmacies, their faces is all over the place.

I cant breath in this country, I need to go home.
