Good win for Koubek, but this has been a good tournament for him so far, the problem is he can't follow up a good tournament with consistent results afterwards.

I wonder how long it will take for the Ancichoke comments to come into this thread.

Ancic did his worst performance of the year.

No 1st serves in and missed the easiest point ever on a breakpoint in the last game.

mario threw up on court during the match. he looked tired at the beginning of the second and koubek just played like a pusher, waiting for the error
koubek went 9-0 on netcords too
mario had the open court on bp to get back into the match and missed :o

I guess there will be a lot after Ancic missing a point with the whole court open on a breakpoint in the last game...

Ancic never retires. He just prefers to be defeated by weak opponents. That's why he always end up injured...

He didn't because he's dumb. He risked a injurie that could end his season.

Btw if Ancic continues serving like that, he won't win a single match in both Madrid and Paris.

And byebye Shanghai!

You want it both ways, don't you? I haven't questioned Ancic's fighting spirit, here is the problem.

If he wins, then it's a heroic performance and if he loses you make excuses.

i said he was unlucky and that the conditions didn't favor him at all but that he fought hard :o
that's not contradictory :retard:

He was not unlucky. He simply played badly. Big UE in horrible ocasions, no first serves in, etc...

Btw Koubek is still amazing in the net. Amazing volleys by him!

It's an excuse. as I said earlier. Ancic has chucked up on court at RG and beat Robredo and today he couldn't defeat his opponent.

You want it both ways, if he completes the match, then he has to take the consequences whether he wins or loses.

i didn't disagree with you :o
had he won i'd be happy he fought so well but i wouldn't be happy with his level of play

I feel bad for the poor linesman, it looked like Mario almost puked on his shoes...

Koubek was very consistent though. Some of his net plays were a little questionable (he did have a couple of real nice volleys mixed in there) but he played well from the baseline to get the job done.

he was unlucky cause of all the netcords that didn't go his way (there were 9 from the beginning of the second set) and he didn't play well cause he was exhausted

Netcords are part of the game. I can't remember well, but I think none of them were in important points.

About being exhausted, I agree. And I think he's getting thiner and losing his muscles. His becoming to look like Peter Crouch... :tape:

 He threw up! Was he sick? Or was it lack of fitness and conditioning?

It's hot over there and maybe he was dehydrated and that can happen with dehydration chucking up and not having enough salt or electrolytes in the system or maybe too much and was bloated.

Koubek's reward is a match up against Berdych, either Berdych will trash him or Koubek will perform above himself.

It's really easy to vomit when submitted to a lot of exercise. It's very common in swimming, I know it from experience.

I was really surprised by the result, but I guess if he wasn't feeling well then it's not as bad. But with Robredo and Blake doing well this week, Mario REALLY needs to step it up a notch or two in Tokyo (he's still playing Tokyo, right?). And with the indoor conditions n' all, he shouldn't be facing any physical issues.

I always remember Tokyo by Ancic's choke last year against Moodie, and for some reason, I always think it's indoor.
I take that back then.

Thanks for this thread. Actually Koubek was sick in Szczecin and was moving pretty miserably (not only on court but also during breakfast) - glad to know he is after all the problems with his health... because he seemed to be in form last week :yeah:

now good luck Koubek for your next matches cos you'll need it :yeah:
