I don't agree that it's that hard, it's not easy, of course, but in DC, with 16 best nations, there can't be an easy draw.

Mario thinks Germans will choose Rebound Ace or hard, and even if they choose clay, like Haas&Kiefer are better than our boys

As for Australia, they will only be scary if Hewitt goes through a renaissance and becomes Fed by the time (read: will never happen) and what are they gonna do? Put grass? hehe

It's bad that we'll be guests in both 1st round and (possible) quarters, but there are so many Croats in both Germany and Australia that the atmosphere should be great :bigclap:

I'm kinda confident :aplot: :p

Hopefully you're right Goga :p And I really hope neither Mario nor Ivan will be injured at that time, that could become very tricky in that case  But I don't believe that will happen - that just can't, not two years in a row! :ras: plus there's no tie in July, so we can be confident I guess :aplot: :rolls:

As for the match, I hope Mario will give a lead to Croats, 'cos it's hard and I think he's better than Haas on it :p Though Tommy is playing at home etc...

Anyway we always may hope for the perfect result (as 2:0 after the first day)

Haas-Ancic : 1-1

2005 Masters Series Miami ... Hard R32 Ancic 6-4 6-4
2004 Athens Olympics ......... Hard R64 Haas 6-1 7-5

Becker-Ancic never played.

I hope Mario can def Tommy too.

Something that Bodos wrote in his blog

Croatia at Germany (teams even, 1-1) - At stake for Croatia: Fountains of glory. The entire country hangs on the DC team's every move. Croatia is the Little DC Nation That Could; staying alive in the competition will ensure that the frenzy continues. At stake for Germany: The opportunity to stay alive for another round before being roundly trashed as a pathetic group of bitchy little divas.

My take: Ivan Ljubicic and Mario Ancic have been to Croatia what Tommy Haas and Nicolas Kiefer were once supposed to be for Germany: a one-two punch of very good if not great players who, inspired by pride and home support, take advantage of the level playing field provided by the DC format to earn glory for themselves and their nation. Morale-wise, it may work in Germany's favor that the malcontent Kiefer isn't playing; but that advantage ends the moment the Benjamin Becker (Kiefer's replacement) steps on the court. He is, after all, a journeyman

to be frank, if Mario didnt catch any cold or something similar, I will believe he has a big chance to fight to win. but everything didnt go to this spot :o

tho he won the 1st set, while all knew, his game wasnt easy to get held. to turn to Haas, his serve is his advantage. so win or lose, Haas is taking the mouth :p

This is from Yahoo! Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/news?slug=reu-davisgermany&prov=reuters&type=lgns):

Ancic is due to play on all three days of the tie and his fitness could now be a concern for captain Goran Prpic.

"By the end my legs were dead," said Ancic, who added that he still planned to play the doubles as well as Sunday's reverse singles. "I was having a tough time breathing."

Would Mario be healthy enough for the remaining rubbers? Now I'm worried...

Match Report from DC....sound not good situation..

Ancic still suffering from a cold

In fairness, Ancic was still suffering from the cold that has dogged him all week, but Kohlmann too was fighting off a throat bug which left him almost out of voice by the end of the match. The three breaks of serve in the first two sets were all on Ancic’s serve, but the German pair said it would be harsh to blame Ancic for that.

“He lost his serve all the time,” said Kohlmann, “but I think we made the points and broke his serve because Ivan wasn’t helping him a lot. We were hitting the second shot always to Ivan, and I think that was the key.

"Maybe Ivan is the better server but we went over Ivan at the net, so it wasn’t really Mario’s fault that he lost his three service games.”

Prpic: Players played doubles like singles players

Croatia’s captain Goran Prpic said he didn’t regret selecting Ancic, but felt his players “had played doubles like singles players”.

The first set was fairly even, but at 4-4 the Germans worked up the first break points of the match, and while Ancic saved the first two with aces down the middle, the Germans broke on the third, and moments later Waske served out the set.

Ancic had practised on Saturday morning to see how he felt after battling his cold for four days. He declared himself fit despite saying “it was a big struggle and I’m far from feeling good,” but once the first set had gone, his level dropped in the second. Both his service games were claimed by the rampant German pair, who raced to a two-sets lead.

Ancic's serve the weakness

Croatia then regrouped in the third, and the set moved into the tiebreak with neither side having a break point. When Croatia opened up a 5-2 lead with two minibreaks, the match looked destined for a fourth set, if not a fifth. But the Germans reeled off five points on the run, concluding the match in two hours and six minutes by breaking the Ancic serve once again.

“The German team played really well today,” said a magnanimous Ljubicic, who holds his country’s immediate fate in his own hands.

Ljubicic has to keep Croatian hopes alive

All is not lost for Croatia – Ljubicic will start as a slight favourite against Tommy Haas in the first of the reverse singles, but it would then depend how fit Ancic is for the fifth.

“It’s getting better,” he said of his cold, “but if I could have two or three extra days to recover it would be great – it’s nothing unbelievably serious but it’s taking a lot of energy from me.”

....I so worry , if he don't rest enough..he will not be recover until next week..

Mario was really unlucky for DC after 2005 :sobbing:

but every country has its up-and-down for team battles. Ljubo has talked about his decision opinions about his DC career, maybe it means that Croa needs to do some change, so some losses dont be counted so seriously. especially our Mario was so... unlucky

when I saw Mario watching Marin' last rubber at ease and cheered for him, I got it that Mario knew what has happened and what he would do next year

I'm not sure about this. I hope Mario and Ivan will play double again in other tournament as they used to do. Perhaps Ivan would change his idea of this is his last Davis year, who knows?. I think Mario and Ivan have given all of them. It was not the best result, but sometimes you have to lose to improve.

Prpic: "Players played doubles like singles players"--> I think it's a captain's mistake. A captain mustn't criticize their players before others. Team's problems has to keep into the team.

The Mario's ill remember when I felt sick before my final exams

no no I am afraid there was something misread. i didnt mean Mario is sure to lead Croa to win next year. I just wanted to express that after such bad lucks of two years, he would have to take care of himself and get enough ready not only for time but also for body. since Mario isnt lack of fighting spirit, and if Ljubo is really tired of DC jobs, Mario has to take up more responsibility. Marin has such nice shots :hatoff: but he is so young especially his body is still developing :p

btw... yyeess... this year our TV chose to show the live tie of Germany vs Croatia so I can watch all the matches... while I didnt watch Ljubo vs Haas coz I was not interested. when watching Mario' matches, I could see my Marin from time to time, he took my heart away too easily  when watching Marin' last rubber, I could see Mario from time to time  he looked better than on court himself ;)

Mario Ancic and Ivo Karlovic have not been included in Croatia's squad to face Great Britain in the Davis Cup World Group qualifier at Wimbledon.
Ancic has a shoulder injury while big-serving Karlovic has not played for his country since 2005 because of a dispute with his federation.

Ivan Ljubicic leads the squad, which also includes Marin Cilic, Roko Karanusic and Lovro Zovko.

Teams can change two players before the tie, which begins on 21 September.

The absence of Ancic and Karlovic will boost Britain's hopes of qualifying for the World Group, which features the top 16 countries.

Ljubicic, currently ranked 12th, is a former world number three, but he has never got past the third round at Wimbledon and has gone out in the first round on four occasions.

Cilic, 19, is a rising star, ranked 119th in the world. He beat British number two Tim Henman in the first round at Queen's this year on his way to the quarter-finals.

The tie, to be played on Wimbledon's Court One, will be Henman's last competitive appearance before he retires.

Andy Murray, Jamie Murray and Jamie Baker make up the rest of captain John Lloyd's squad.

Davis Cup or no Davis Cup, I don't want him to rush back into training unless his medical team is very sure that the injury can't be re-aggravated.
