Both teams got byes so we face the Dutch in April. Where will this likely to be held in GB? Presumably Braehead as the weather could be unpredictable? If it's nearer to home, I should be rolling up there.

It's in the Easter holidays, so I'm glad about that. Doubt I can go though, due to lack of money.

Looking forward to the match...but would hope that they choose a more central location for the tie i.e Birmingham, Nottingham etc. The previous two ties have been very north and very south as far as im concerned (outside Liverpool/Manchester). When will the venue for the event be released, any ideas?

I'm hoping for Eastbourne or Wimbledon.

i think it will be an indoor tie, april outside is too risky, maybe birmingham, when was it last held there? i dont think it will go back to scotland again as they had it last april and they have this aberdeen cup thingy as well.

Quote from yesterday's 'The Daily Express':

"The date and venue of the tie are yet to be announced but LTA Chief Executive Roger Draper said: "It is up to the captain and the players but personally i would like to take the tie to Birmingham, Manchester or Glasgow. We want to take the tennis and the Davis Cup out around the country." "

Would love the tie to be held in Manchester...

I'd also like Manchester :) Jamie & Andy in the doubles is looking more likely, since they just made the final of the ATP event in Bangkok and Jamie is now inside the ATP top 100 doubles rankings.

Still not too sure about the date that a team and/or a venue is named - anyone...?

Nothing has been released just yet. Have been checking the LTA website so hopefully they'll put something up soon. But if anyone else has managed to find anything...

They really should revert back to Birmingham...convenient for most to get to, and the ties were electric there...incredible atmosphere which impressed even the away nations.

The tie in Scotland was the worst home tie in over 5 years imo...attendance wasn't great, location was shit, and wasn't impressed with the team either...I strongly oppose it going back to Scotland so soon...maybe a couple of ties down the line.

it should be birmingham. its indoors, central and a great venue for it. nobody bothered to watch it in scotland.
we should win given the netherlands are pretty weak atm, but we have a one man team. rusedski wants to play one more home match but he probably won't be able to walk or something and will lose, i mean look at the match against the ukraine, he only won cos of his experience and the dutch players have more experience than the ukranians. murray can't handle the pressure of being the one who has to win. henman got on with it, murray will just whinge and moan. he wants to give the other youngsters a chance, fair enough, but in an easier match. BRING BACK HENMAN.

after murray, henman and to a lesser extent rusedski, none of the other players can compete at a high level in davis cup. bogdanovic is a half decent player, but he is as thick as shit and when it comes to davis cup he plays shit and doesnt care. and i just can't see who is going to be the next to make a breakthrough and step into the second singles position

Davis Cup Squad Announced: BBC Link (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/6485193.stm)

Andy Murray
Tim Henman
Richard Bloomfield
Greg Rusedski
Jamie Baker
Jamie Murray

It's pretty much a definite that Andy will play two singles matches, and if the match is tight then Tim may be forced to play two as well. Probably the most interesting question is who will partner Jamie Murray (who should be a cert.) in the doubles? The obvious answer is Andy but Lloyd may not want to have him play 3 matches over the weekend, especially considering Andy's fitness and injury susceptibilities.

Overall though the squad looks pretty strong in comparison to the one that turned out for the tie against the Ukraine.. Andy should win both of his matches, and I would think that they are looking fairly strong in the doubles category. However even if that is lost, it would be expected of Tim at least to be able to muster up one good result out of a possible two.

Hopefully it will turn out to be a good weekend for British tennis :yeah:

that squad is a joke. the murray brothers, henman and baker deserve to be there. but rusedski who has played and lost 1 match all year should not be in. he should have retired by now, he has nothing left to give, and will most probably lose to everyone on the dutch team. james auckland should be in to play doubles wit murray senior

Hmm...even though I'm a fan of Baker, I think that Richard deserves to be in the squad more than he does.

And I agree with you about Rusedski, but I wouldn't bring in Auckland. Jamie and him haven't played together in a while, and didn't have great success together. Therefore I have no idea who could be brought in to replace Rusedski..logically it would be Bogdanovic, but that waste of space doesn't even deserve a look in.

jazar
03-24-2007, 09:34 PM
auckland has had some experience of the higher level, especially after the tournament last year i think mumbai or something where he took tursunov to 3.

its obvious rusedski is only in to play any dead singles rubber there may be and bloomfield would be the same. so it makes sense to have auckland, who is more of a doubles specialist in as well

Bogdanovic - a waste of space! Hmmm...

He's struggled in Davis cup yes, but was badly injured last time out and reached 114 last year.

Hardly the ranking of a waste of space!

As an ATP player he isn't a waste of space...

But as a Davis Cup Player... His last performance against Israel was shockingly poor, he just collapsed and didn't seem to show the attitude of a man desperate to win at any cost for his country.

the official 4 nominations (with their rankings) for each team are

GB:

murray 11, 89
henman 48, 274
rusedski 283, 1389
murray 1507, 43

Netherlands:

haase 141, 170
sluiter 140, 815
wassen no singles, 42
sijsling 293, 286

there is a bit of discrepency between the davis cup and atp sites. according to the davis cup site jamie murray is 1.65m tall and weighs 47kg and on the atp site he is 1.90m tall and weighs 84kg. i think the davis cup site is correct, but i may be wrong

He was also badly injured. It kept him out for 2 months on and off afterwards, and was playing his "bogeyman" Noam Okun, who is to Boggo what Tursunov is to Henman. Just matches up against his game really well and therefore is difficult for him to beat.

You're welcome to your opinion but I think you've formed it pretty quickly after a couple of ties, one of which he was badly injured in.

Having said that, he shouldn't be in the team for now, because he needs confidence as you say, he defo is mentally weak. If he can kick on to top 100 he might start to believe in himself more.

order of play:

R1 - A.MURRAY (GBR) v R.SLUITER (NED)
R2 - T.HENMAN (GBR) v R.HAASE (NED)
R3 - J.MURRAY / G.RUSEDSKI (GBR) v I.SIJSLING / R.WASSEN (NED)
R4 - A.MURRAY (GBR) v R.HAASE (NED)
R5 - T.HENMAN (GBR) v R.SLUITER (NED)

so, greg for doubles, an instant loss, but he only has to lumber his fat body around half the court. hopefully sluiter can beat murray

JustJames

All the singles matches should be no contests... 4-0 to GB. The doubles could be close though, and although Greg is far from his best..there's a lot loss movement required in a doubles match, so we stand a good chance.

Fingers crossed 5-0 :)

And you seriously believe that this will happen?

Haase is ranked 141, and Sluiter 140. Obviously there is always an oppertunity for an upset in Davis Cup, but it would have to be a major one if either of these two were to win either of their singles contests.

Stop being so god damn pescimistic :p

Chances are if we go 3-0 or 3-1 up the final singles rubber(s) won't be populated by Tim or Andy. And in that case we'll probably lose them.
