From interview with Nico today:

"All they know that for me Vina runs with advantage"

Besides his worry for improving in the ranking, Nicolas Massú does not be unconcerned of the next Davis Cup match against Russia, in a season that according to the viñamarino he will be like the great opportunity so that Chile opt for the "salad bowl".

"They have the advantage to have five good players, as opposed to us. The next year is vital because we have the opportunity to play many series at home, and is like the opportunity to fight for the title", explained.

"One must expect that occur with them in the end. For which I have listened (Marat) Safin would come, and conversing with Davydenko told me that if does not come to Brazil and Vina would not come to the Davis Cup", completed the Olympic champion.

Regarding which should be the headquarters of the match before the Russians, Massú did not have objections in aim at Vina as his favorite one, although that decision was left it in the hands of the leadership.

"All they know that for me Vina runs with advantage, not only because is my city, but because would be after the ATP, with the same balls. But one must be attentive to what offer La Serena, the confederacy will decide because already complied: will play on sea level."

From latercera.cl:

Despite that all indicates that La Serena will be the headquarters of the Davis Cup match against Russia, the captain of the Chilean team, Hans Gildemeister, clarified that not yet a final decision has been adopted al respect.

"A decision has not yet been made definitively. The two they are with very good possibilities to harbor the match", stated the "Bionic", in statements that performed to Cooperative Radio.

The main doubts regarding the option of Vina pass for the ATP that a week is celebrated before, situation that would leave without time to the organizers for "to deliver" the Club The Salinas to the ITF.

"The only objection is the end of the ATP of Vina, because the final finishes Sunday near the two in the morning, more the awards ceremony, and al another day one must deliver early the court to the International Confederacy", explained.

Regarding the time limit that are being taken to define the headquarters of the match before Russia, Gilmeister indicated that inside the next hours would be able there to be news, although reiterated that as much Vina as La Serena one they comply with the requests.

Worry by Davydenko

The captain of the Chilean team also referred al good moment that are living his next rival, especially the first Russian racquet, Nikolay Davydenko, recent winner of the Masters of Paris-Bercy.

"Not doubt fits me that is the best team of the world, in any type of surface, but I trust in which Nicolas (Massú) and Fernando (González) they are going to arrive well prepardos", wagered the former number twelve of the world.

"At least we play in Chile and we will do it to sea level, where to Davydenko not so much the ball runs him as occurred in Paris", finished saying Gildemeister.

It ideal for the players was to act in Vina del Mar, due to that a week before is disputed the ATP of the "City Garden", situation that meaning a species of practice to be been accustomed to the conditions of The Salinas.

Nevertheless, that contest finalizes recently Sunday in stellar schedule (22:00 hours), situation that put in risk it put ready of the court main for him revision on Monday on the part of the international confederacy (FIT).

To this the capacity is added that offered in each one of the cities. Fernando González and Nicolas Massú had announced that they desired to play supported by a multitude, point where La Serena has advantage owed al stadium of ten thousand people that offered.

Gildemeister: "Los rusos no regalarán nada"

NicoFan, guarantee is the special prize if you want tickets for the 3 days ;)

They're going to sell the tickets whereas the court is not yet started ??
They do the things backwards in Chile
It's not the only thing that we do backward here. It's common to see how in some places firstly paviment a street and then start to itch it for installing cables or the sewage system :o

Hi! I would need some help regarding the tickets. I hope some of you might help me. I tried to find places on the net to buy tickets for the Davis Cup, but unfortunately I could not succeed. Until now the most promising place was www.puntoticket.com, but somehow I could not register. I have to admit that I do not speek any Spanish, but still I tried. So I got always a reply that the RUT is not valid. It might sound silly to you, but what is RUT? Obviously it is not a username:) So if you could help me, please contact me here or via PM.
I desperately need to go to the Davis Cup (cheering for Chile of course!) Thank you in advance! And VAMOS CHILENOS!!!!!

No Davydenko or Youzhny. But Safin and Tursunov will still be tough.

And I hope he doesn't really believe that it wasn't "his day". Nico.... :banghead:

From latercera.cl:

Nicolas Massú (43º) maintained on his return to the country that the Russian Nikolay Davydenko (3º) and Michael Youzhni (25º) they would not play the Davis Cup match in Chile, that will be disputed from February 9 in La Serena.

The pupilo of the Argentine Gabriel Markus explained that that information collected it in its short stopover in the first one Grand Slam of the season: "I knew it there in Australia and Marat Safin commented it to me."

Though not yet the official teams have been announced, the viñamarino anticipated that both tennis players would not be willing to travel for the sorrow by the first round of the World Group, although that does not do of Russia a smaller team.

"It is a dangerous team", said el Vampiro, recalling that yes they will be Marat Safin and Dmitry Tursunov, but was shown confident of a victory. "With 10 thousand people, in court of clay, yes, we win", he stated.

The second national racquet was defeated without appeal by the Serbian teen Novak Djokovic in the first round of the Australian Open, with partial of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0.

Despite the rout with Djokovic, Massú did not do a badly balance of his beginning of year, especially by the victory that achieved before Juan Carlos Ferrero. Only the match before the Serbian player ruined his good play.

"It was not my day. I was very distracted, I never could enter the match, I could not return against him. He is playing very well, is a boy that already is in quarterfinals", he related.

Massú affirmed that his immediate goals are to achieve the title in the ATP of Vina del Mar and to be able to surpass to Russia in the Cup Davis, what an important one he would give him "blow of mind" to continue the first semester.

Korolev is out of Viña (and Santiago Challenger, don't know the reasons), and Tursunov is in doubt for Viña and obviously DC (torn left wrist ligament injury). So if it concretates their absents, Chile has a huge advantage.

The russian captain, Tarpishev doesn't know who will play against Chile...

from Cooperativa

(Agencias)

This is from lacuarta so some of it didn't translate well. Interview with Igor:

Andreev: "It is not in my plans to lose and logical that the best for the Davis was that added the greater quantity of matches on clay", admitted Andreev, who confessed that the unique fixed one is Safin, because "was number one of the world and I believe that he can beat perfectly González and Massú".

What faith according to the binnacle of the champion of the world of the raqueteo, next Monday would be leaving for La Serena. Al touch they will begin to coach, seeking what for the Russians sounds to odyssey, given that "Chile, by its house and its people, is the favorite one".

-¿Compadroski, they believe that with the level of the Feña already they are fried?

- González walks with an incredible faith, but for us nobody is unbeatable. He is also a person and we should take advantage of his exhaustion.

- He Hear, but you do not catch that here the public is eaten to any...

- But in Cup Davis the public feels where be. I do not know it, but is somewhat normal and that does not be going to impede us that we fight. By something we are the champions.

ok I had the enough strenght to look up info about Nico in the internet and the boys already practice today for DC ... here they're some articles and again, NicoFan has to use her translator :p

from la segunda.cl

btw I hope that everything is more than okay with Nico's leg :awww:

Here's the translation. I don't like the sound of that with Nico's leg and tests.

The players practiced for more than an hour the Court Central of the Campus Trentino of the Universidad del Mar. Al principle there was a practice between the number 5 of the world and Nicolas Massú and then they went to practice serves with Hans Gildemeister.

In spite of the fact that they have worked in tranquil form still continues the worry by the physical state of the main national racquets. In the case of Fernando González, by the overload of matches, after being four weeks playing, while in the case viñamarino by an inconvenience in the aductores of the left leg, something that obliged it to be practiced an ultrasound.

"They are well, but very played the time, surely there will not be problem so that they play Friday, only one must do I work normal with them to pass the own pains of two tennis players that come from an exacting championship as Vina", assured the doctor of the team, Alejandro Orizola.

With respect al level of the players, the assistant of Gildemeister, Horacio Matta, was shown too in agreement, above all, by it shown by Massú. "Who have seen the training of Nicolas should agree, because gave very sure shots and is with a lot of mobility, with many desires", assured.

The team practices again this afternoon to the 17:30 hours in the Court Central of the Campus Trentino of the Universidad del Mar.

Fernando González still fails to acclimate and Massú criticized the court.

The second day of practices was seen marked by the matches to a set that disputed "el Bombardero" and "el Vampire", who surpassed the physical inconveniences, that seek to be adapted to the surface that will harbor the collision before the Russians.

The work has not been easy of the Chilean team of Cup Davis in the moumental court of La Serena, since the main figures, Fernando González and Nicolas Massú, not yet they achieve the optimum performance with sights al collision before Russia by the world group of the Davis Cup. The second day of practices was seen marked by the matches to a set that disputed Gonzalez and Massu. In the occasion, Feña fell before Adrián Garcia (189°), situation to which the Top 5 excused with which not yet feels well the ball in this new court of clay.

"I arrived a week ago, with many matches and what more affected was me the change of hour, recently two nights ago I am sleeping with normality and now I took me three days of rest to disconnect me a little and to be a lot better. I feel a lot better, they lack three days, sufficient time to arrive well", affirmed González in a simple press conference.

In turn, Nicolas Massú (42°) surpassed the pains of the left abductor, even exams carried out al player ruled out a greater pain what generated the calm al interior of the team commanded by Hans Gildemeister.

Besides, he referred to the state of the court to declare that "is a little soft, has a pair of pits over there, is giving a good rowboat in some sectors. It is seemed to Vina there is not a lot of difference, we are to level of sea, perhaps a little faster and here does a little more than heat, that also does that the court be a little drier".

The training will continue this Wednesday and they will continue with "short match" where particpará the remainder of the team conformed by Paul Capdeville (136º), and them you invited Jorge Aguilar (388º) and Hans Podlipnik (1.326º).

No idea Juliet but I can't wait for some of the Chileans to come on and explain. And glad to see that Nico is joking around.

Another article - Safin is giving Nico y Fer a lot of respect.

From terra.cl:

"To win, we will have to have something of good luck and to expect that Fernando González play not well", he said Safin in statements al evening La Segunda.

In the opinion of Safin, González "he is passing for a great moment and of that form he is done very difficult to defeat it".

Safin, that in La Serena he will be accompanied by Dmitry Tursunov and Igor Andreev, he considered that Nicolas Massú, he is also "a great player", that when he acts for his country, "he becomes a warrior", and surely he will cost a lot to defeat him.

Safin defused the absence in the Russian team of Nikolay Davydenko and Mijail Youzhny, the better vital, Russian players in the obtaining of the Cup Davis 2006.

"We are an even team, by which the absences do not influence so much and besides we include a good couple of double", affirmed, although admitted that the court in which will be played, of land beaten, "is not the one that more accommodates us".

"In general, Chile has a good team, the same as Russia", concluded Safin, that was declared delighted by the deal that the people of La Serena has given him. "They have treated me as at home", affirmed.

Can anyone help me? I don't get the joke!

"Massu stays longer at the practice, even when the memory of his defeat is still fresh, his sense of humor -goofing around with "yogur de mora" - was excellent"

they always are joking around with a member of the team who is in charge of the racquets , named "yogurt de mora" (Berry yogurt :haha:) but there's no specific joke about it ;)

Oh, I love learning spanish too, Nicofan! The thing for portuguese speakers is that it's sometimes very similar to portuguese (and vice-versa), so you can get really confused. And you speak "portuñol" or "españês" instead... ;)

Actually, last year, when Nico won Costa do Sauípe, he said in his speech "i hope you understand my spanish..."! Awwww... And I guess most of the people did understand like 70% of what he said!

And Kid, my teacher is from Mexico City! :D

I'm not sure that's a good idea. Fernando obviously is great on rebound ace (at least this year), but Nico...not really.

Stick with the clay...both chicos are great on clay.

nooooooooooooooooooo, clay is the only choice for us...

nico sucks on hard (except olympics, sorry NF and all nico' fanatics, but it's the real true), and all the french players are better than our Olympic Warrior on hard...

Gasquet has won titles on hard (indoors, but hardcourts) and made 4th rd at AO and USO

Grosjean rules on hard... he reaches a lot of times the 2nd week in AO (QF many times and SF in 2001), also he reached the TMC 01 final on hard indoors in Sydney, his game is perfect for his surface...

Clement' best results are on hardcourts, finalist at AO and last year he won Washington...

Monfils also reached the Doha final last year losing to King Fed and this year beat Baghdatis at the AO...

and also they have Gicquel, Santoro (QF at last yeat AO), and Llodra plays fantastic on doubles in the hardcourts, his lefty serve can make a lot of troubles for us...

(Cooperativa.cl)

Someone awhile back used to post on Nico's MSN board that followed Nico since he was like 17. And I don't know if this is true or not, but she told me that some coach told Nico that if he would just concentrate on hardcourts, he could be better on hardcourts than he is on clay because he has the game for it. Obviously Nico wasn't listening...

Now I don't think that is true...he has a natural game for clay, one of his best strengths is his movement. And he's such a great defensive player which obviously works on clay but not on hardcourts.

But he can do better on hard than he does.

We need that consultant coach that I've yelled about for years... ;)

Unless Nico and Fernando are so tired that they can't move, I wouldn't put Paul in there. The Russian team is too strong to take a chance. But that's my humble opinion.

Here's the translation:

The Olympic champions of couples worked set against Adrián Garcia and Paul Capdeville, who does not lose hopes to be one of the members of the national binomial in the second day against Russia.

With work dedicated al double continued the preparation of the Chilean team of Cup Davis for the match against Russia, that will begin this Friday in La Serena one by the first round of the World Group.

The double one that appears as holder for the encounter on Saturday, Fernando González (92º of the specialty) and Nicolas Massú (140º), played set against Adrián Garcia (130º) and Paul Capdeville (172º).

It does a pair during the day, the captain Hans Gildemeister opened the door so that the commitment of couples dispute it Capdeville, recent champion of that modality in the ATP of Vina del Mar, depending on the results of the first day. Al except the tennis player of Vitacura does not lose the hopes.

"One it is playing here in Chile, in Vina I played with all the public to favor and I walked incredible. In general I am passing a good moment, very I please, very happy and that is being reflected in the court. Now if I play or I do not play depends on the coach and one has to be prepared hundred percent, because before the Russians not no point can be given", declared.

Even, Capdeville has clearly who prefers as the companion for an eventual binomial.

"For me he would be better to play with Fernando, because already I played with him, in the ATP of Los Angeles, we did semifinal, we lost with the Bryan quite tight. We have already two or three parties, we know us, I know what does, how does he move, where he disturbs him more to play", he maintained.

"With 'Nico' (Massú) I have not played never, if he came to play he would prefer to play with Fernando, but if I have to play with 'Nico' do not I have no problem. He is a type that a lot of claw he puts him, a lot of intensity and that i like", added.

After the session of double, González (5º in individual) and Massú (42º) they were measured in a hand by hand, although both yet agree not with the surface, therefore the clay is loose and does difficult the displacement.

In the meantime, the Russian one Marat Safin (24º) is coaching very strong, hitting him hard to the ball and appears as the rival most dangerous one of the Slav picture.

The apparent second singlista, Igor Andreev (147º), played two sets intense against Teimuraz Gabashvili (101º), another of the members of the Russian assembly.

In the afternoon, the court installed in the Universidad del Mar was revised by the authorities, that approved the aspect of security of the precinct.

This Thursday, to the 12:00 hours (15:00 GMT) will be performed the drawing in the Center of Serene Conventions Resort, that will determine the order of the matches of the first day, in which surely they will be measured González with Andreev and Massú before Safin. (Cooperative.cl)

VAMOOOOOOOOOOSSS CHILENOS!!!

kidnicky
02-08-2007, 03:12 AM
all the above is almost just bla bla bla to me since we SHOULD be talking about Russia and not France who btw has a different tie this weekend.

I'm sick and tired of reading that Massu sucks in hardcourts and all that crap, yes he hasn't have good results in hardcourts since the olympics but it seems that everyone forgets what Nicolas is capable to do when he is playing for his country and it pisses me off because he's always working his ass off when it's about Chile and most of the times he should be worried for his personal career and not for the ¨team¨

And the worse thing is that all that ¨news¨ I'm sure that it came because Feña hasn't reached his level in clay .... if he'd have reached the final in the French Open instead of the AO and the DC would be in hardcourts, he'd be having the same freaking problem and the news in that case would be that probably the next tie should be played in clay no matter if Nicolas would have won like 5 titles in a row in hardcourts.

So after all my "rant" (If I bothered someone I'm sorry) I'd say that we should focuss in this weekend and then let's see what happens, Fernando will be okay for friday and then this topic would be deleted from our minds :p

VAMOOOOS NICOOOO!!!!!! VAMOOOS CHICOOOS!!!!

You make some good points Kid, but I still think overall clay is the best bet for the Chilean team. Not only must their strengths and weaknesses be taken into account but also the other team's.

Anyway, this is all speculation since its Russia, on clay, this weekend! They obviously need to concentrate on that and not look past it yet....

No1Rios - Nico didn't choke against Gasquet (a word I don't like anyway - I'd rather say players get tight - and all players get tight - including Fed when he plays Rafa on clay). Gasquet likes to play head games out there, and Nico doesn't handle it well - and if Chile plays France, he won't be able to do that to Nico in front of 16,000 screaming Chilean fans. ;) So not a worry... :)
