Maybe Russia should have Davydenko play Roddick instead of Youzhny?

I think a fresh opponent would be good for Russia now. Roddick already played Youzhny at the US OPEN recently and he beat him. Roddick hasn't played Davydenko in over a year. And Davydenko has improved greatly since then, he can return big serves and he's a very dangerous and a serious fighter. Clay is also Davydenko's best surface he reached the French Open semifinals last year, this year he reached the quaterfinals. And he has won titles on clay. Youzhny may be tired from playing singles and doubles. I also don't think the Russian coach made the right decision by having Tursanov play doubles instead of Safin. Safin volleys better and he's a much more powerful player.

Agenda dear, most probably Davydenko will play instead of Youzhny vs Roddick. :D
And Marat needs to be fresh tomorrow ... just in case. That was the reasoning behind the doubles pairing. ;)

It'll be the deciding rubber to take your country into the Davis Cup Final. Blake will win, he has the steadiest game on the tour when it comes to big matches ;)

If it comes down to it, maybe Blake can pull a surprise, and we can always count on Safin to oaf

As much as I'd like to see Roddick win for selfish reasons (just to see US take it to a 5th rubber and hope that Safin completely self destructs and leaves the stadium half way through his match) - Russia are in a position as to be able to pick and choose who they want to beat Roddick.

Whether it's Youzhny or Davydenko - the result should be a Russia win. Youzhny is a fit guy with home crowd to give him an adrenalin boost should he need it (he's also won the DC for Russia, so he has the experience at this level) and I imagine he'll be delighted to get a chance for a quick revenge over Roddick in Russia on clay.

As for Davydenko. Yes, it's true Roddick is 1-0 up in their meeting on clay - but that was 3 years ago and even the most ardent Roddick/US fan cannot fail to recognise Davydenko is a much improved player since then. Davydenko has also had something like a week off since his last match and for him that is the equivalent of any other player having 2 months off - so he'll be totally fresh, he just might take a few games to get his timing right. :)

I think Davydenko should play because he's the no.5 ranked player in the world and I believe he can give Roddick a lot of problems. Davydenko is faster then Roddick and fitter then Roddick he also uses more angles and slice. I think he deserves a chance to play,

That's pretty funny. Although, if that happens, I will be the first to give you about 5 positive reps in a row.

I think the best opportunity for Kolya to beat Roddick is here and now. Forget about H2H and that loss on clay, it was a final and 3 years ago, a total different Davydenko comparing of today.

Davydenko has also had something like a week off since his last match and for him that is the equivalent of any other player having 2 months off - so he'll be totally fresh, he just might take a few games to get his timing right.
Excellent point :yeah:

I don't think my heart could take it if it comes down to Safin in a fifth match.

No youzhny will play against Roddick because they want Davydenko to get fresh for finals. :p . Even if Roddick beats him.(which is highly unlikely on red clay in Russia.) There is no way Blake will defeat Safin.

Doesn't matter if Roddick wins or not. Count on Safin to be an oaf and maybe lose in a best of 3 set match, but this is a five setter we're talking about. Safin has plenty of time to get his head in gear. He is a great 5 set player.
