Yes, and lack of depth in the Croatian team has nothing to do with it, right?

What's the depth of Argentina outside clay?

You know that Croatia only lost because Ancic was injured na Karlovic wasn't in the team. A whitewash would be almost certain with any of them.

What does Argentina's depth have to do with it?

Anyway, without Cañas, Gaudio, Coria and Puerta for different reasons Argentina still has a good team.

Croatia has only 2 players and injuries are common in tennis. That happens to 2 players teams (like Chile f.e.), one injury and it is almost impossible to get a win.

But because their two players are VERY good, and were lucky by having no injuries last year, they got the DC.

Drugs are taking a toll on MTF members. Don't say such BS. Spain took a 4/1 from Mirnyi and Voltchkov on carpet. They have a competitive team on clay and that's it.

The most complete team is Russia. They have "slowcourters" (Davydenko, Andreev) and "fastcourters" (Tursunov, Safin, Youzhny). They can win anywhere on any surface.

Yes the Russians are the best. But they wouldn't be able to beat Spain on clay or on grass. And I think the Spanish would give them a hard time on hardcourts too.

Maybe so, i don't think they are invincible (obviously  ). But considering all the players involved i think they have the better team on paper.
Yep, you could argue that Nadal or Federer alone would beat them, but i don't consider 1 guy a "team"

1) That's such an asinine statement. Croatia, for that matter, are only good on fast surfaces. Or are you trying to tell me that they are a tennis superpower on clay? Why? Because they beat "Austria" on that surface? Big deal. I'd like to see Ljubicic, Ancic or Karlovic play on clay against Gaudio or Nalbandian.
The truth is that they're mediocre at best on slow surfaces. They're no Russia.

2) Get over it, people. Tough luck for Croatia. If they want their revenge against Argentina, they'll have to go over there and play on clay. Let's hope they do. We'll see how good the superchampions are on a slow surface.

3) Let's not forget that Argentina beat croatia in 2002 without Coria and Nalbandian, the best two Argentine players in the last decade. Goes to show who has more depth.

If Spain loses to Belarus (a one-man team) on carpet, how can you say that Spain would win against Russia on grass? That's just ridiculous.
Who is going to win something on grass? Nadal? :haha: that's insane. Tursunov would beat him effortlessly.

Croatia can't beat Argentina on their favorite surface at home.
Now imagine if they played on BAs clay, 5-0 Argentina.

Argentina are a far more surface-diverse and talented team.
I'd also like to say. Screw Croatia. If I could say it in french, I would.

Yeah, that's why nalbandian has a record of 16-3 in davis cup play and Gaudio is 13-3 (i'll give you that most of those wins of Gaston are on clay and in Bs As, but they can't be dismissed completely).I would say, yes, they do care.
Just because they lost some matches doesn't mean they don't usually give 100%. Ivan is 35-16 in davis cup play and i also think he gives 100%.

And i fail to understand what does commitment to davis cup has to do with with the discussion about lack of depth?

Stop talking out of your ass (again). Argentina won in Croatia this year, last year won in Australia. Do you not watch Tennis?

Only Russia, Spain and possibly France can say they have more depth than Argentina.

Croatia are a one man team - Ancic did nothing for them in singles last year apart from beat a nobody. Ljubicic carried them. And this year he couldn't.

Seriously, are you a twat for a living?

You claim Croatia aren't weak on clay because Ljubicic made a RG SF after coming through a challenger like quarter. And yet at the same time Spain would have no chance on grass despite having a Wimbledon Finalist in their ranks.

Oh, please, spare me. Ljubicic's semifinals at RG were even more ridiculous than Nadal's final at Wimbledon. We're talking about facing quality players, not Berlocq, Hernández, Mónaco, Ramírez Hidalgo and Benneteau.

But nevermind. It's no use arguing with disrespectful, biased jackasses.

It's none of our business how seriously the Argentinians take Davis Cup.

For the record, DC is serious business for Argentine players and supporters. We want to win it and are likely to be in with a shout each and every year for the forseeable future, as soon as Del Potro reaches near his potential - Nalbandian will finally have the good back up (and eventual) successor we need to become a side that can win anywhere, any surface as Russia are now.

At present, we can win elsewhere but it usually relies on Nalbandian having to do most/all of the work. Once we get Canas back too we'll be even stronger.

I see a future (2008 maybe?) hopefully of Nalbandian and Del Potro for singles and a mixture of Calleri, Canas and Chucho competing for doubles spots.

Being real... visitor's "upsets" last years:

2006
Austria 2-3 CROATIA
Switzerland 2-3 AUSTRALIA
Germany 2-3 FRANCE
Netherlands 0-5 RUSSIA
Croatia 2-3 ARGENTINA
France 1-4 RUSSIA

2005
Switzerland 2-3 NETHERLANDS
United States 2-3 CROATIA
Australia 1-4 ARGENTINA
Slovak Republic 2-3 CROATIA

2004
Australia 1-4 SWEDEN
Morocco 0-5 ARGENTINA
Romania 2-3 SWITZERLAND
Czech Republic 2-3 SPAIN
Switzerland 2-3 FRANCE

In conclusion:
-More consistent team: ARGENTINA
-Best team seizing opportunities: CROATIA
-This year's champion: RUSSIA
-Best Host: SWITZERLAND, followed by AUSTRALIA
-But, even more important, Where's GlennMirnyi's team??
