Not gonna lie, I like Russia.

I am not at all, unhappy if they win. They have 3 of my favorite players, Muzlix, Hippo, and Dima. I just hope the B-boys win the doubles, and Roddick can win the first rubber on sunday take this thing the distance.

Well I guess that Davis Cup record Blake built up against Indian doubles players, Slovak juniors and in dead rubbers when he was picked for the team several times despite not being one of the top 10 American players is starting to come down.

Patrick McEnroe better be removed as captain, no matter what the result after this year.

blakes only decent win in singles was vs Ancic in 2003 and that was well before Ancic was a top player

That's BS. Ancic defeated Federer in 2002 and made AO's 4th round in 2003.

Either way, Blake couldn't even beat CAPDEVILLE ON GRASS. That's too much of a joke.

I'm not defending Blake, he's just a huge joke, but unless there's a "Ancic lost to Ricardo Mello in 2003" there, no H2H will tell me he was a bad player.

The worst stuff was the other guy up there saying he was a challenger player in 2003.

GlennMirnyi,

Ancic played and lost in four challengers that same year AFTER he lost to Blake in the Davis Cup and didn't win his first title until over two years later.

The point being that saying Blake beating Ancic in 2003 was his biggest win was taken quite rightfully as an insult.

"The worst stuff was the other guy up there saying he was a challenger player in 2003."

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Playing 5 challengers of 25 tournaments (including DC ties) is not being a challenger player. That's just 25%.

Tommy_Vercetti
09-22-2006, 06:38 PM
One that plays in challengers at anytime in the year is a challenger-level player.

Donald Young might have played in ten professional tournaments, but he's a juniors-level player.

GlennMirnyi
09-22-2006, 06:43 PM
In your frame of mind, Berdych playing Prostejov this year makes him a challenger-level player... yeah RIGHT!

Tommy_Vercetti
09-22-2006, 06:43 PM
Correct.

There are exceptions.

Ancic was a challenger-level player in 2003.

I don't care if he made one good run.

Making the round of 16 at a grand slam doesn't mean shit.

GlennMirnyi
09-22-2006, 06:46 PM
No there aren't. Challenger level players are players that play almost all of their year in challengers. Ancic wasn't one of those in 2003, so he wasn't a challenger-level players.
In 2002, though, he was.

Tommy_Vercetti
09-22-2006, 06:47 PM
So a couple months past 2002 and a first round loss in an English challenger months after the DC doesn't make him a challenger-level player?

Ok, if you think Ancic was a good win in DC in 2003, different strokes. There's little point in arguing it.

GlennMirnyi
09-22-2006, 06:47 PM
The guy plays 20 of 25 tournaments in ATP level or DC level and is a challenger-level player.
When one can't understand simple math, then you can't discuss further.

Tommy_Vercetti
09-22-2006, 06:49 PM
How many of those 20 were first round losses?

A player that plays 25 tournaments, 20 of them ATP and doesn't get past the early rounds in any of them except in one of the challengers.

That's a challenger-level player.

GlennMirnyi

Challenger-level players doesn't have rankings to enter ATP tournaments. That's why they're called "challenger-level players".

Tommy_Vercetti
09-22-2006, 07:01 PM
Ok, so we'll leave it at that.

Ancic played 18 ATP events in 2003.

He lost in the first round of half of them.

He didn't get past the early rounds in the rest.

He played in 5 ATP challengers.

He lost in the first round of two of them, the second round in two and won one.

So in your opinion because he decided to play and lose in ATP regular events instead of challengers where he belonged, he's was an above challenger-level player.

Like I said, different strokes.

That sucks.

Tommy_Vercetti
09-23-2006, 05:48 AM
Merton, Blake has earned his recent selections because of the lack of results from other American players in the past year.

However, he was picked when he was not even one of the top 10 Americans playing in the past for years and the ties he missed was because he was injured.

There's no one else standing out right now, but my point is that even if he goes back down into the rankings, he's going to get picked for the team even if some of the other Americans step up and get ranked higher.

Because Patrick McEnroe plays favorites. You should read about what he did to Spadea. He passed over him with the #2 selecion when he was the second ranked American and the best on clay, then under pressure when Vince spoke to the media, McEnroe made him the practice partner, paid him less than the other teammates and made him travel on his own. He then told him if he beat Fish then he would be the #2 player. Vince beat Fish in both matches and still wasn't allowed to play.

That is not leadership and that is not a Davis Cup captain I want.

Can they even let Korolev play? He is not in the lineup at all. He wasn't picked to be a member of the team in this tie.

But I also would like to see him play. He's quite handsome too. He was sitting courtside during Marat's game.

No, they can't let him play. Once the team of 4 has been selected, they can only select from them. Korolev wasn't picked, so therefore he can't play.

Yeah that's why I said if they end up not playing Tursunov at all, meaning they would choose Safin for doubles (We'll see in a bit I guess). Because most likely even if Russia loses doubles, Davydenko (I still think he'd play Sunday instead of Misha) would probably win his match so for the dead rubber, I'd rather see a player like Korolev....Anyway, it won't happen so...
