USA-Russia: Sexiest Tie Ever?

What with Marat, Dima, Andy and James, Ive heard some say that that is the only reason Russia picked indoor clay. They knew heaven would be drooling over all them and the rain-delays would be terrible. Ive also heard some say that the tie should just be abandoned and a fashion show be installed in its place.

Your thoughts? :wavey:

I gotta say, this tie is one of the "hottest" in terms of the attractive-ness of the players: James, Andy, Marat, Dima, The Bryans (yes I do find them nice to look at), Youzhny (yes I do see the Justin Timberlake resemblance) and even Davydenko has some good angles.

Marat > Team Spain

Come on, Rafa's no slouch in the sexy department either, though the rest I agree with.

This IS the sexiest DC ever.

Marat - might just be the sexiest man alive
James - really REALLY gorgeous, though i still contend that he looked better with the hair.
Andy - hot in a very squeaky middle-American way...not exactly my type, but I wouldn't turn him down either
Dima - not quite as hot as Marat, but he's still attractive and his personality adds a LOT to his appeal.

The Bryans aren't bad looking, they just have REALLY dorky hair. Misha also has bad hair, but REALLY nice eyes. Davydenko...well, he's better looking than Stepanek at least. :)

Davydenko  Marat  Youzhny  Turs  Blake

That pretty much sums it up for me. It's mostly attributed to the Russians.

Okay, I will admit that I started liking tennis becuase I thought andy roddick and Marat safin were really hot, but that's not why I keep watching it. I honestly don't think I would care that much about Safin if I also didn't believe he could play really great tennis...and has a great personality. I'm not pretending to know Marat, but there is a reason that this man has not only many female fans, but male fans as well. They aren't all attracted to his looks...they like him as a person and player...he's awesome and most everyone knows it.

Why is it so difficult for some people to grasp that you can appreciate the physical beauty of athletes at the same time that you appreciate the beauty of their game/groundstrokes/athletic talent?

Also, this is the sexiest tie ever:

http://www.exploratorium.edu/hubble/place/gallery/images/cr61_b.jpg

This was never the issue. I never insinuated that the two be mutually exclusive but I DID ask for someone to quantify, as Party Girl says, the two factors as a whole.

You see.. my little problem is that the numbers of female tennis fans are SO much greater than so many other sports. So while I appreciate that of course, you all love the sport of tennis I did wonder how big a factor the beauty of the athlete is. The reason I ask is, surely there are good looking athletes in a whole multitude of sports, but tennis is perhaps the one that has pulled in the most female fans... and I can't helpbut wonder why that is.

Here is a thought and please I would like your insight on this.

Is is partly because the female tennis athletes themselves are represented well. We could talk about differences between ratings of mens and womens tennis etc, but basically the women are talked about at a similar level to the men. Does this draw a lot of female fans in initially because they are happy that in a sport they are fairly and well represented and appreciated?

Hey oxygene, I can't really answer your question. I do know that I enjoy tennis (even if the players playing aren't so good-looking). But if they are good looking, so much the better, hehe (eye candy always helps).

Anyway, here are some pics I found of the sexy guys in suits from the official dinner in Moscow (I love that they're wearing suits hehe).

Really, where'd you get that tidbit? I thought football would have more female fans since it's the biggest and most popular sport in the world. Don't you think so?

Anyway, why would it be a problem for you if there are more female fans than male fans in tennis (if that is true)?

Personally, tennis has pulled me more than any other sport bcoz unlike majority of sports where it's physical (boxing, football, b-ball), tennis is much more of a mental game and that makes it more appealing for women, I guess.

I have made no mention of more/less female fans than male being a problem in any of my posts. Men have not been included in any way shape or form to my questions.

Fair enough if there are more female american football fans than tennis and if there is, well, I did not know that. Definitely though you would agree that tennis is near the top of the pile with regard to the volume of female sports fans.

So you reckon it might be how mental a lot of tennis is that pulls in more female fans. What do you think to the overall elegance of tennis having something to do with it as well... as opposed to the more literal brutality of boxing ( Which by the way I think is as mental as tennis ).

Thanks for responding. :)

EDIT:

Were you referring to football as in FUTBOL. Yeah of course that is the most popular sport in the world.. although I hear that angling is more widely accepted or something...

Well I would agree that the sport would have more female fans, I very much doubt the ratio is as even as it probably is with tennis. Pr at least I get that impression from looking at this forum.

I think you're asking a question that can't be answered here. As far as I know no one's ever bothered to study the ratio of female to male fans in tennis, and if it's higher than other sports, why. I don't even know if it's true that the ratio is higher. If it is, I doubt very much that it has anything to do with male tennis players' looks. My completely unscientific reasonging as to why that might be true (which I don't even know that it is) would be that tennis is fairly unique in that it is one of the few sports that is widely available to amateurs and a large percentage of its fans--male and female--also play. You're not going to find a whole lot of adult amateur team sports simply because adults are busy and cohesive, consistent teams are hard to organize. Tennis is widely available; many apartment complexes have a couple of tennis courts, not to mention courts in parks and dedicated tennis facilities. A lot of people play tennis, and those people tend to like to watch it, too.

Or maybe it really is because we are all powerless against Marat Safin's devastating sexiness. :D

Very good post overall, I tend to agree with the fact that since it's a non-contact sport, I don't think there is any added enjoyment for women where the men are bashing each other on purpose.

Yes, I meant football = soccer (sorry for the  )

When I reread my 1st post, it might be a bit misleading. When I said I liked tennis bcoz it's more mental, I didn't mean that other sports were less mental. Like you said, boxing is as mental as tennis, and I agree. I think female fans are more lured to tennis is that it isn't as physical and brutalas other sports. But I'm sure there's a significant % of female fans who are attracted to tennis bcoz of the players also. Personally, it's nice to see good-looking guys play but on the other hand, I could stomach watching Stepanek play tennis all day than a better-looking guy who plays boring golf. (A little bit biased bcoz I absolutely hate golf!) ;)

I do also enjoy that they could be out there for hours bashing eachother...literally taking everything the other has got and they shall never touch until a gentlmanly handshake or hug at the net.

love that.

i don't think i could even list the many reasons i love tennis or why i would always choose it over anyother sport.

it is so multi dimensional
you have to love it on many levels and for many reasons.

It is MOST DEFINITELY Marat's devestating sexiness. :D And Rafa's hot ass. jk. Sort of. Look, men's professional tennis probably has the most attractive atheletes in the world. And yes, it adds to the sport's appeal for women. Anyone who says differently is just plain wrong. But it certainly isn't the ONLY reason. I like Marcos Baghdatis and Andy Murray too, and I don't find them attractive in the least.

All that being said, I admit that I am shallow enough to enjoy a tournament more if Marat and Rafa are in it. :)

Would it help your research if I tell you that my mom who is.... ups :tape: well, let's say older than 50 for quite a long time :haha:, adores tennis in general but ATP in particular?! Does not miss a match on her tennis channel! I called her and asked if factor of beauty of the athletes has pulled her to the tennis world? :haha: She said--- she enjoys watching it because tennis is life in miniature: you have different characters, different stages of life, sympathy and hatred, authority and youth, raising and falling etc etc... Bottom line-- tennis is the best soap opera! ;) And the beauty of the actors is relevant but not sufficient! :D

Now of course you need to research why there are more female fans of soap opera?
