Tennis Tricks

I really envy some players like Federer who can catch the ball from the ballboy with the side of his racket, Marcos Baghdatis bouncing the balls between his legs before a serve, and even Roddick walking the ball over to the service line.

I can't do any of it.

It's too bad there haven't been any opportunities recently.

True  I think that someday, I hope as soon as possible he'll recover.
Yes, he always does those tricks on court, especially bouncing the ball with the side of his racket or mantaining the ball there.

I remember Agassi catching a fairly fast return of serve (from a serve that was called out) right on his strings, but perfectly timed so it looked like there was velcro on the strings and the ball just stuck to it.

Santoro is another guy for tricks (and just general random stuff during matches). And I definitely remember seeing Coria balancing the ball on the side of his racquet.

I believe Baghdatis picked up the trick of bouncing the ball between his legs from Federer - I can't remember the quote exactly, but he saw Federer do it once in a match and just started doing it all the time. I know I've seen Feds do it a couple of times too.

Mansour Bahrami was the King of tricks. He would flip and twirl his racquet around, hit shots between his legs or behind his back, spin the ball so it would bounce back to his side of the net, would bounce a ball high into the air and catch it the pocket of his shorts, serve holding 5 balls in his hand, he was fun to watch.

Doesn't Gasquet also bounce the ball between his legs before serving?

I also saw Roddick do it a few times at the US Open this year. Popular trick!

im surprised that roddick could do that. i didnt see it myself though i watched most of his matches at the uso. but yeah, it takes a lot of hand eye coord along with soft hands for a player to do that and well, roddick at net =

He did it a few times while he was waiting to serve. During the US Open he always got up quite soon so maybe US stations didn't show it because of their commercial breaks. And I have to say, he was surprisingly good at it ;)

I once played with this guy at my club who kept doing this thing where he'd be rolling the ball around one side of his racquet and somehow flip it to the other side without it ever looking like he did anything, I swear it just appeared there. I have no clue how he did it and he wouldn't tell me
