Davis Cup: Great Britain v Ukraine? Who will win??

Who will win this weekends tie between Great Britain and the Ukraine? Great Britain have a better team than the one that faced Israel at Eastbourne in July. Andy Murray is fit, and Greg Rusedski always rises to the occasion for Davis Cup. I predict Great Britain will win by 4 rubbers to 1.

rusedski can always be relied on to lose in 5 sets when you need him most in DC lol.

i heard he might retire after this match as well.

UKR 3-2 GB is my pred'ctn

We should win...Andy Murray should win both his singles and our doubles looks stronger with the expected combination of Delgado/Rusedski.

I'm a little miffed as to why Mackin withdrew...he was finished in Orleans by Friday! He was surely the 2nd singles player...and I was confident he'd win at least 1 rubber. Now I guess we should put Jamie Baker in singles...even though his clay credentials aren't great.

I will shoot Lloyd if he puts Rusedski in singles and Murray in doubles with him  :help:

Bogo has reached his peak and will fall back down the rankings.

He has also shown a lack of commitment and desire for Davis Cup. I wouldn't leave him out of weaker ties on hardcourts / indoors...but he should not be considered for any tie on clay.

Interesting. After his run at Newport I thought that would be his real start to become hopefully a big player. It's such a shame that GB has produced one truly class player in the last 7 or so years since Tim and Greg. I don't know what's wrong with us.

Out of the current players we have, the only ones that COULD advance up the rankings would be Goodall and Bloomfield. Both have better serves than Boggo, although that doesn't say much

Great Britain to win 5:0, Greg to go out with a bang!

Indoor clay courts usually generate faster playing conditions than playing outdoors.

Expect GB 3 Ukraine 2.

Newport has been his last good result. He had won 2 or maybe 3 challengers this year and 1 at the end of last year.

Bloomers and Goodall will probably do no better than top 200

Dr. Jules - I'm confused as to the surface. Like you, before I was under the impression it was indoor clay. The Davis Cup website begs to differ though and lists it as outdoor clay. Shouldn't make too much difference as we ought to win

This is one of the most eagerly awaited matches of the DC weekend. It should be a festival of Tennis and too close to call. I will sit on the fence with this one other than to say Tennis will be the winner.

Sergiy still has time to be a great player. He is only 20. The kind of player he is usually takes longer to develop. There is so much artistry to his game.

But clay is by far his worst surface and I'm afraid Ukraine did not help themselves one bit by choosing it as their surface. Gotta agree that I can't see GB losing this.

Absolutely FURIOUS with Lloyd's decision as to the line-up:

Rusedski v Stakhovsky
Murray v Dolgopolov

Rusedski, whilst he says he is feeling fit, is clearly not moving as well as he did...and he is playing on his worst surface against a respectable opponent. He should have been held back for doubles on Saturday with Delgado. Baker should have been "bled" in his first Davis Cup singles rubber tomorrow.

So, now we could be faced with a 1-1 situation by the end of Friday, 1-2 if a malfunctioning Rusedski plays with a shitty doubles partner Murray...and 2-3 overall if Rusedski's body falls apart on Sunday :help:

I thought Bates' captaincy was a joke...but Lloyd seems to be no better. Thanks for disappointing me

British captains never learn.
You have a deficiency of top singles players so you should choose a specialist doubles pair to take the pressure of what singles players you do have. I see Adam mentioned Neil Bamford, get him and Jim May in there for doubles, or Goodall/Hutchins or Jamie Murray/Colin Fleming or whoever (granted I don't know the current statuses of these players some might be injured/unavailable - I don't know).
Even so, the tie as it is - Murray should win both singles and Greg should beat the 17 year old, assuming his body holds up for that match, so Britain 3-2.

The win isn't in the bag yet...but we should get it. I expect Murray to win...if not, Greg's raw power could blast the kid off court in the 5th rubber - and experience would possibly play a big part too
