Why all personal flaming and flaming?

Okis, I have been reading this forum for some time, but this is my first post.

Firstly I have to say I have been playing tennis for long time, but never competive. But I have played both ice hockey&football(or soccer if you prefer) in quite high level. So in some way I can think how players does feel.

I'm 100% sure that none of players have such a hate against each other that most of ppl in here have against some player/some writers. It's ok to not like some1, but when all conversation is about bashing some player/writer it will ruin whole point of conversation.

Ie. this Federer vs Nadal rivalry, why not just talk about their game and playing. Why all conversation will be about "how stupid he is", etc. Same goes for other fans. If some1 is rooting for some player, why bash him and not just let him to enjoy his own player and you to enjoy your "own player".

welcome Joretus, excellent first post. If everyone acted like thatt, this place would be much more enjoyable for many of us. But unfortunately, many people are not so mature. Unfortunately, it's just the way MTF is.

I could write a Ph.d on this.

Basically, there is a quiet period in the tennis calendar, this makes fertile ground for it. The fact there are a lack of mods at the moment for various reason.

There is a competition for the biggest arse clown on this forum coming up and they are competitive and want to win it.

Then again there is the fear factor. Some Fed fans think you are a philistine or hate tennis, if you don't wank about how great he is. Some Nadal fans think he is charismatic cause he can run side to side with an invasion of crabs down his pants. Put that together with the fact that Nadal is the only player that is consistently threatening Fed helps as well.

Most tennis writers don't have much of a clue and there are some brilliant moments on this site, it's just they are as rare as a Gaudio win on grass.

Why are there only 4 moderators then?

there are many posters who could do a good job, if the chance is given to them.

MTF has been going down and down...

General Messages is just unreadable.

I believe MTF is undergoing some changes at the moment (behind the scenes) and when those are completed I imagine there will be some more moderators put in place. So we just have to hang in there til that happens.

:yeah: You just have to wade through and ignore the immaturity. BTW you are not the first poster to notice and comment. There have been other general threads asking the same. Recently 2 "why hate" threads were started and there was a thread a ways back about the definition of a "fan" versus "fanatic" . That was an interesting read;)

You just have to be prepared to wade through it all - there's a lot of good people on here who post good things if you're patient enough to keep your eyes open.

There's a lot of idiots too, though, who just want to flamebait, argue, and generally cause as much chaos as they can.

I've discovered this on every forum I've been on, though, regardless of the subject matter or purpose.

You mix people with other people and sparks will fly, that's all.

Joretus might have to join me in testing just how much information the 'ignore list' can handle. Welcome mate, you'll find a few decent sub forums in here, particularly in the players section I'm sure. Most of us are nice and not terribly aggressive. (So I like to think). :wavey:

I have the feeling that moderators should give more attention to deleting or moving threads away from the General Messages, than looking after cloned threads or that kind of stuff.

There are tons of threads that talk about the posters and have nothing to do with tennis.

There are tons of threads that talk about the posters and have nothing to do with tennis. To be fair, Prabu did a lot of that. He closed and deleted threads all the time. He just happens to be on vacation right now. My only suggestion is if you think a thread is better placed in non-tennis or if you think it should closed/deleted, report it, and the mods will decide what to do.

For example:

Passion of the Fedtards should be deleted. So as the poster.

Mirka looked bored needs her own life should be moved to Federer's forum.

Are Fedtards fans of tennis or ballet? should be deleted.

And there are a lot like these.

Heheh, as far as fighting goes, people choose to fight. Also, like stated previously, one can choose to ignore controversial threads. But once in a while, a good debate (*cough* fight *cough*) is good.

Sometimes it can be ridiculous though.

I agree with your sentiment. I enjoy watching professional tennis so much. Coming here to talk about it with peope of like minds was a lot of fun when MTF reemerged from the ashes of ATPWorld.

Jump in some of the fan forums and get on the good threads in GM early. There are still lots of great people and great tennis fans here. I hope you're able to get to know us. :)

THe answer to your question is simple: Nadal fans are provoking Federer fans and that is how it begins. And Nadal himself is also provoking with his frequent unsporting behaviour.

Welcome Joretus - and what a great first post :) Many of the previous posters in this thread (like cobalt60 and Willy Cañas) have already said this....... At one time (a year or so ago), MTF did used to be a really good place to meet people who shared a common interest in tennis and have some conversations/laughs/discussions - even the fans of "rival" players could have a friendly argument without descending into personal insults. But lately it has become a cesspit of idiots and immaturity, and many of the most knowledgable ad interesting posters no longer bother to post in GM because it's so full of crap, and you seem to have joined at just the wrong time  But - as Kristen said - the Player Forums are usually harmless and full of people sharing common ground - so why not introduce yourself on your favourite player's threads. I hope you can enjoy yourself here and find some friends - we're really not all bad!!!

the umpteenth "someone said XXX about Federer/Nadal/Roddick/whoever",
the umpteenth "Fedtards hate Rafatards" thread,
the umpteenth "Rafatards hate Fedtards" thread,
the resurgence of the "hey, Roddick's back in the mix now according to Connors so the Rodtards hate the Fedtards AND Rafatards and what do you think about THAT huh? thread,
the "Ljubicic is still here you know, assholes" thread,
the "never-beginning, never-ending assclowns contest" thread,
the...well... you get the idea... :ignore: :shout:

Thanks for all of those who gave me nice welcomes. Really nice of you.

Then about the matter. I don't mind it too much or take it personally that ppl are flaming, etc. I'm used to it in other boards. The thing is that just wanting to give it some kind of "pop up" that it should be about game and tennis.

Tennis is prolly my 2nd/3rd favourite sport as watcher so I really do enjoy it(being as sport maniac). So I do enjoy speaking about it too. And maybe just talking about thing would make some1 to think about next time when he/she wants to flame or won't reply for some flaming. Every board have trolls&flamers, but I have seen some good posts and hoping to see those more.

Anyway, I'll try to give my own lil part for this board. And since Nieminen is going to play after Davis Cup 6 next week I might have something to say about it:)

Some of the threads started in tt are downright classic. You have people asking where to get the western grip, you have someone wondering if he can improve by jumping into a swimming pool and practice underwater, and you have guys posting videos of themselves playing tennis and asking for advice and ended up having a discussion about their shoes.

Among other things which come along with having more/too many mods, even 100 mods could not change the fact that thousands of posts are posted every hour and that not everybody likes every player. Was it better 5 years ago? By frequency yes because it was a smaller community, but back then it was Hewitt vs anybody or whoever and there was the same situation that not everybody liked everybody. How good the forum is depends also on a huge part on the people participating in it and how they act.

MTF is a good board. There are plenty of fine posters here. I'm rarely at a loss for an interesting read when I visit and have noticed, however, that threads in General Messages have digressed somewhat since last year. Still any MTF poster digression pales in comparison to what I can only call the feral antics you will find at the ESPN board.

The mods are pretty good, and have begun to do a lot of good control on the forum. Despite their personal allegiances to one or another player, they seem to act quite fairly.

I can't think of any other current poster who would also qualify as a mod, because they are unable to look beyond their strong feelings about certain players. All in all, I hope the current crop of mods stick around and help this place become more tolerable all year!

It's interesting how much whining some of the posters around here say the WTA board is so bad yet I have read more bashing and crap in this forum that make the WTA board look like an episode of Rocky and Bullwinkle.

So you really have a few choices: either ignore the dumb posters, pick and choose who you converse with......or hell come join us on the WTA board :)
