If he'd only agreed to parade around in a sassy two-piece bikini for Sports Illustrated he might be on a few covers by now. Well, I would pay to see that happen. :D tangerine_dream 09-14-2006, 02:41 PM Who gives a shit to that bs American bias journalism ? So bitter  At least we don't spread European biased articles throughout this board trying to make a point :o :wavey: You haven't figured out by now that Tennis Tool is our resident MTF troll? :) Rafa = Fed Killa 09-14-2006, 02:43 PM No charisma = No press Sorry Fed get a personality then we'll care. oz_boz 09-14-2006, 02:52 PM No charisma = No press :yeah: Spot on! Charisma rules - give us Sampras back! vahep 09-14-2006, 03:11 PM It takes something truly earthshattering for SI to devote a cover to anything other than basketball/football/baseball. Federer won his 9th Slam, but did he break any precious long revered records? NO!. GS 14 or 15 or a calendar year slam would probably be the only achievements that would get him an SI cover. Not that I give a damn. SI is a fairly entertaining and informative magazine, and I do enjoy reading it (as long as they don't devote too much of any issue to boreball, hockey, or golf), but it's definately geared towards an American audience. How many covers has Ronaldinho or Zidane been on? The best players of the most popular sport on the planet. But a 17 year old high school phenom basketball player? Instant collector's issue. lsy 09-14-2006, 04:20 PM So bitter  You of all calling other bitter? :spit: :rolls: tangerine_dream 09-14-2006, 04:39 PM You of all calling other bitter? :spit: :rolls: Hi Lsy :wavey: You finally decided to take a break from cutting down Roger's opponents to venture into GM, eh? nobama 09-14-2006, 07:54 PM So bitter  You haven't figured out by now that Tennis Tool is our resident MTF troll? :)I thought that was reserved for you, no? Rogiman 09-14-2006, 07:59 PM Maria also made the cover of The Prostitute  Dirk 09-14-2006, 08:08 PM It takes something truly earthshattering for SI to devote a cover to anything other than basketball/football/baseball. The difference is that Tennis does get a lot of air time in the US and European Soccer doesn't so Roger should have made the cover at least once but since he has been killing off the USTA he probably won't. PamV 09-14-2006, 08:27 PM And this surprises anyone? I haven't heard from anyone who really likes Sharapova. Sponsors want her to be a femme fatale but she really looks grim on court and sounds horrible. I don't think she has "It". denibas77 09-14-2006, 08:37 PM Maria also made the cover of The Prostitute  this is very stupied post, you Federer fans behave as you won 9 slams ,you are so ful of yourself I wonder why  Dextertje 09-14-2006, 08:41 PM this is very stupied post, you Federer fans behave as you won 9 slams ,you are so ful of yourself I wonder why  Some of Safin fans seem to have brainfarts just like their fave I wonder why  :p Mechlan 09-14-2006, 08:55 PM You guys have it all backwards. The SI cover is actually the kiss of death. The reason Federer keeps winning everything is because he avoids the cover like the plague. If anything, his fans should hope he never gets onto the SI cover and his bashers should be praying daily for it to happen. rmb6687 09-14-2006, 09:11 PM You guys have it all backwards. The SI cover is actually the kiss of death. The reason Federer keeps winning everything is because he avoids the cover like the plague. If anything, his fans should hope he never gets onto the SI cover and his bashers should be praying daily for it to happen. it's not like he asked not to get the cover. Football (college for that matter) is just more important than the winner of a GS in the US  . Although honestly, I bet he cares about that cover as much as the american audiences care about his winning his 9th slam. And I think you know how much that is. denibas77 09-14-2006, 09:23 PM Some of Safin fans seem to have brainfarts just like their fave I wonder why  :p I would accept brainfarts in my life as long as I'm not cold ,robotic, egoistic Swiss  Pea 09-14-2006, 09:47 PM Well duh. We've adopted sharapova suddenly. PamV 09-14-2006, 11:28 PM Well duh. We've adopted sharapova suddenly. Federer d. Roddick final recieved more ratings than did Sharapova d. Henin. I think all the attention she gets is about agents and sponsors thinking she can generate the kind of attention Kournikova did. However, she doesn't have the on court personality for that. Her voice is like nails on a blackboard also. Johnny Groove 09-14-2006, 11:42 PM If roddick won, no doubt hed have gotten the cover rmb6687 09-14-2006, 11:49 PM of that I have no doubt. And beating Roger too...he would have his own special on CNN. Tennis Fool 09-14-2006, 11:52 PM You guys have it all backwards. The SI cover is actually the kiss of death. The reason Federer keeps winning everything is because he avoids the cover like the plague. If anything, his fans should hope he never gets onto the SI cover and his bashers should be praying daily for it to happen. Actually the KOD happens if you are featured BEFORE a major event. Didn't this happen to Serena at a French Open a while back? Sharapova first made the cover after her first slam, then went on to become #1 for six weeks. Tennis Fool 09-14-2006, 11:57 PM Federer d. Tennis Fool 09-15-2006, 12:04 AM http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/2003/0915_large.jpg Roddick also got a sort-of cover in 2003. PamV 09-15-2006, 12:43 AM Due to her endorsements she's the richest female athlete in world now. I know but that's only based on the decission of corporate big wigs who are trying to invent a new Kournikova. My point is that no matter how they push her to the forefront and try to market her........tennis fans and the general public are not intersted. R.Federer 09-15-2006, 06:32 AM That shocks me a little bit. Just a tiny corner for andy?? This is a U.S. magazine, isn't it? Surely he freaking deserved a little more space than those gargantuan football/American soccer/whatever. Don't feel any pity for Roger. Maria didn't make the cover of Blick or Bild now did she? :rocker:, and neither did she make it on .... nzz :p http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/2003/0915_large.jpg Roddick also got a sort-of cover in 2003. lsy 09-15-2006, 05:14 PM Hi Lsy :wavey: You finally decided to take a break from cutting down Roger's opponents to venture into GM, eh? :spit: You're hilarous. Plus, MOST people don't find him good-looking, so unless he does another "young Andre", I reckon he'll never get the attention his 9 slams deserve tangerine_dream 09-15-2006, 05:29 PM morninglory, PamV lives in an alternate universe. Yeah. nobama 09-15-2006, 05:43 PM morninglory, PamV lives in an alternate universe. She once claimed (seriously) that the massive ratings last year's USO final earned was because of Federer and not Agassi. Um. Yeah. :lol:of course it was more to do with Andre than anything else (as evidenced by the fact that this years raitings dropped even though there was an American in the final), but the raitings last year were the highest since 2001. Higher than the 2002 final between Andre and Pete. nobama 09-15-2006, 05:55 PM :haha: you're fooling yourself if you think it was Roger who drew the ratings... it was ANDY  :haha: Roger will never be popular in the US unless his "dark" side comes out a bit more (and maybe learn an American accent too?) I suppose that's why America's greatest athlete, Tiger Woods, chose not to be neutral and decided to support Roger? Fact is tennis isn't popular in the USA. Yes Fed/Roddick will draw more raitings than Fed/non-American, but they'll still be dismal numbers. Corey Feldman 09-15-2006, 07:34 PM Fed could win the Grand Slam, Olympics, TMC, all 9 TMS and Davis Cup in one year.......... with one hand behind his back the whole time, and still might only get 2nd place in the S.I sportsman of the year award behind some lardass american football player :p Corey Feldman 09-15-2006, 07:39 PM Roger will never be popular in the US unless his "dark" side comes out a bit more (and maybe learn an American accent too?) Tennis Fool 09-15-2006, 11:34 PM I'm pleased to discover that Borg actually made several covers of SI, back in the heydey of the 1970s when tennis was big. I've posted a few below. Throughout the years, Lendl, Becker and Martina N. have also been featured. It's too bad that interest in tennis has waned so much, or is it the interest in foreign players?... BTW, the half-pics of Roddick and Sharapova are due to the US Open conflicting with the beginning of the football season. I'm sure if Andy had won Wimbledon he would have received a full cover as did Maria. http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/1981/0615_large.jpg http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/1980/0714_large.jpg http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/1977/0711_large.jpg nobama 09-16-2006, 04:07 AM I think you'll find Nike had a hand in that! That's BS. Tiger has said before he's a huge tennis fan and a Fed fan. Roger said he asked Tiger to come to the US Open and Tiger said he would if Roger made the finals. I don't know what Nike has to do with that. | |
