Jazz Girl - I'm so sorry, - I've just caught up with your post in my lunch-break - I know how much it meant to you to see him in Buenos Aries. Try and cheer up and don't be too sad, - and I hope our David gets well soon.

jazz_girl

Apparently he twisted his ankle during a practise before the Morocco match, and then made it worse during the match. He made some tests and it seems he can't play.
I'm really sad cause I was really looking forward to seeing him play live for the first time, but I hope he gets well really soon.

Is this already official??

jazz_girl
02-12-2004, 03:15 PM
Not yet, he's waiting for those tests results today. But his coach, Eduardo Infantino, said that till yesterday it was 90% sure that he wouldn't go. After the results they would see what to do.
I think he won't play, and every newspaper is saying so. I think Moya won't be there either...so I guess I'll cheer for Calleri!
I hope you get well soon!!!

DAMMIT  this sux !

STOP getting injured David

I hope David doesn't risk anything by trying desperatly to play in Buenos Aires just because it is his home tournament. He needs to be healthy for the hardcourt Masters in the US in March.

It is now official that David won't play Buenos Aries - there is an article about it on the tournament web-site as www.atpbuenosaires.com. They say he will be out for at least 2 weeks. I am really sad about this -like Aleta says he must STOP getting injured, - I'm worried about all the points he is losing  , and very, very sad for all the people who were going to see him there.

Aleta4
02-13-2004, 09:25 AM
two weeks

Does this mean this week and the next one or will he have to withdraw from Dubai as well
Such a shame Dubai is a good prep for the US Masters events.

Hi Ma. Estefania - welcome back. No I don't know what matches David watched in Buenos Aires - I think he was more just walking around taking in the atmosphere, talking to fans and signing autographs etc. According to the press, one of the reasons he went was because his Dad persuaded him it would be a nice idea to give something back to all the fans that had stayed up late watching his matches in Australia and followed him in the Davis Cup. I think that is so great - to be so respectful to the fans - shows what a great guy he is :)

You know it is strange - I've met Coria too and I find it completely the opposite - David always seems to be a much nicer person than Coria when I have spoken to them! Guess it is just the way that people perceive other people!

Angelito
02-23-2004, 07:43 PM
I find David much nicer too but I guess its just like we said in Argentina "una cuestión de piel". The literal translation will be "a matter of skin" I don't know if you english speaking people have an expression for that... I guess you have I just don't know it.

Hugs.

Actually I'm not quite sure that we have Angelito! Perhaps the only way we would describe it is to say that some people "hit it off" with each other, and other people don't. Maybe with Coria, it is because his English is not good and my Spanish is also not good :p , so there were obvious language barriers between us, whereas, of course, David's English is excellent so we could converse more easily. If I think of a literal translation of your "question of skin" I'll let you know!

Maybe the translation here would be a "matter of preference", or what you can tolerate? Just guessing....Does that convey the thought you were trying to get across?

Yes, but in spanish is more like some sort of metaphor.
Thanks anyway ;-)

In English, of course, everything is idiomatic.

Fostin
02-24-2004, 03:32 PM
Yes I guess its a matter of the way you perseive the ppl... and I think for english speaking ppl is harder to perseive that from Coria coz He can´t speak english and its a shame...... I think he is always very nice and the way he finishes his matches... I dont know he is very cool.. He has something I like. I really like the way he plays tennis and his personality... Don`t take me wrong but I have seen an inteview with David in a local channel here in my country (from my state) and He was kind of ... I dont know exactly the word... Gossip?? lol but anywayz I think he rox and his tennis is awesome! :p

sigmagirl91
02-24-2004, 03:49 PM
Well, from I've seen of Coria, I don't know.

I don't believe, however, that David is a "gossip"; heck, he's the target of all that.

Angelito
02-24-2004, 07:13 PM
I really don't want to speak in a bad way of Coria but I guess I will anyway...
I met him when he was younger and he wasn't nice at all, maybe he has changed who knows. But last week I went to the Buenos Aires ATP and I was sitting just beside his firends and some of his relatives and believe me they weren't nothing but idiots. All the time they were insulting Coria's rivals and saying bullshits about them, I don't think that's the way of behaving inside a stadium. Truthfully they were really annoying and they behavior were not only bothering me but everyone who was around. During the final even Moyá gave them a disapproving look.

There is a proberv that we use in Argentina that says "Dime con quién andas y te diré quién eres" ("Tell me who you're mixing with and I'll tell you who you are" that would be the literal tranlation).

Once again, and I'm sorry, do you have some expression for that in English?

Hugs.

sigmagirl91
02-24-2004, 07:42 PM
I can't think of how it's said in English right now, but what you said is pretty close....

Ma. Estefania
02-24-2004, 09:44 PM
Well Angelito, as we all know sometimes that phrase really applies, but sometimes it doesn't.

Anyway I think that none of us can really say if a player is very nice or not, etc. because, you know, none of us is a relative to them like to really know how they are; sometimes when we meet someone it's specially when they're on a bad mood, or any other situation.

Anyway I like Coria but also Nalbandián, you know, I support them no matter what. :)

02-24-2004, 09:56 PM
I must admit that I didn't like Coria at all, don't ask me why, but I didn't. But when I saw him in Bs As, the way he treated his fans and all I started to like him, I'm not a fan of his though. I think he's shy and sometimes that can be understood in the wrong way. But as someone said before, we don't know any of them at a personal level, so we really don't know how they are...

we use this setence in portugal to.
but i agree whith M. estefania we don't realy know them , so we can't say how a person is.
bu if you dont like him we don't have nothint to do with that ," gostos não se descutem" ( we should't discute tastes )i dont kwon if this is the write way to sait in english :P
