Hi everyone. I'm new. First post, as you can see. I'm eagerly waiting for US Open and just really want to join in to cheer for Juanqui. I know it's wishful thinking that he will win the title. But that's what fans are for, blindly hoping that Juanqui would win every single match he ever play and be #1 for as long as he's in the tour!!!

Okay, seriously though, I truely believe he can win US Open this year.

Sizing up the seeds at the U.S. Open -- men's singles

NEW YORK, Aug 22 (Reuters) - The following is a brief rundown of the strengths and weaknesses of the top 16 men's seeds at the U.S. Open, beginning here on Monday.

7-Juan Carlos Ferrero (Spain): Prodigious talent more at home on European clay courts although a semi-final run in Cincinnati will have given him heart.

Thanks for your warm welcome, Leo7. So I've given a detail introduction of myself in "About US". Though I forgot to mention that I love clay tennis the best. But I get a feeling that this US Open will be the most memorable when Juanqui take the title. :)

I just hope he has a good run here, and that if he loses, it is because someone really had to beat him :)

Hi Rebecca. Thx for the welcome.

Hey, I'm getting a little worry for JC's first round match against Arthurs. Because Jon Wertheim is paying a lot attention to his match. In his column, he said: "Wayne Arthurs: When he beats Ferrero off the bat, you can say you saw it here first. "

I was pretty sure JC won't have any problem since his win over Arthurs is quite convincing in Cincy (though the score was tight, JC wasn't threatened with too much break point and he's never broken by Arthurs). But since Jon said that, and I thought Jon like JC too....

Anyway, I must have faith in JC, I know he can do it, I'm sure he also believe he has a chance to win the whole thing too.

I also like Jon's comment on Safin's match:
Safin vs. Nicolas Kiefer: Head-case special.
I do like both Safin and Kiefer, wish they give a show to shut those naysayer's month, eventhough one of them will have to lose in 1st round.

OK. Jon's prediction is that Haas will take the title. If he is ever right, then JC will be number 1 at year end.

Leo7
08-23-2002, 02:14 AM
oh, Jon Wertheim doesn't know what he's talking about most the time, even tho i like reading his stuff. Ferrero leads his series against Arthurs 2-0, and both those wins were on hard courts in Cincy!

:bounce: VAMOS!!!!!!!! :bounce:

I wouldn't worry about Jon, Jon is a jinx. The worse things he says about Ferrero, the better Ferrero will do.

Ferrero hasn't even lost a set to arthurs, and all of a sudden he will lose three?

Lets jsut say that Jon isn't ver objective.

He jumps on and off bandwagons as often as Patty Mac.

Vera
08-23-2002, 03:51 AM
Ya, I really shouldn't worry about whatever Jon and Pat said. Should have more faith in Juanqui.

I really hate Pat Mc, I think he's in constant denial, refusing to admit that JC is indeed a all-round good player. In Cincy, he didn't say any good thing about JC even though Juanqui beat both Blake and Dent. Anyway, I love that when Juanqui proves them all wrong.

Chloe le Bopper
08-23-2002, 04:07 AM
The funny thing about Pat in Cinci, was that one match that Ferrero wasn't playing in (second round matches) they were talking about best passing shots.

Cliff mentioned Ferrero and Pat goes "yeah, but we're not just talking clay".

Against Moya like 3 days later, Pat comments that Ferrero's poassing shot is one of the best in the game and that it will have to be on

Leo7

Nick Bollettieri is taking his pick of the 1st round on the USOpen site. He's picking Arthurs in 4 against JC.

Well, of course. Nick is still mad that JC turned down his offer at 15 to move to his academy. JC's success must be ticking him off.

He also said that JC's red hot year is cooled into a simmer. Okay, I'm not sure JC's been red hot this year. He's been ups and downs that's for sure. I think he's actually getting into the right gear since July. And is getting into better form just in time for the Open. Nick should really do his research before opening his big mouth. Or he's just gonna embarrases himself.

Are you sure he didn't mean last year? But I agree with you, he does seem getting into the right form. Hope it kicks in at the open. :D

Matt Cronin's Day 2 Picks: Hingis, Sampras, Venus, Fererro to Pull Through

7-JUAN CARLOS FERRERO (ESP) VS. WAYNE ARTHURS (AUS)
On paper, this looks like an upset special, with wicked lefty server Arthurs set to twist Ferrero off the court. But don't forget that J.C. is one of the world's top returners and whacks more than a fair passing shot. He knows what's coming when it comes to facing Arthurs ,and only a nearly perfect serving performance from the old Aussie will unglue the Spaniard.

Ferrero had a somewhat heroic run to the Roland Garros final, but once there, he froze up like a baby polar bear left to fend for himself on a broken iceberg. J.C. has yet to fully admit that he fell prey to an attack of nerves in his French loss to Costa, a bout of personal dishonesty that will continue to plague him until he comes clean. Still, Ferrero has loads amount of talent with an under-rated first serve and forehand. Plus, remember that Arthurs was a dark horse pick to win Wimbledon and seized up in the second week. That has been the story of his 12-year-career. Ferrero will take out Arthurs in four.

________________________________________________

From US Open site. Pardon my ignorance, who is this Matt Cronin guy? I tend to agree with him, not only that he's the only sensible one not to pick JC's match as upset special. But also, JC -a baby polar bear,  :hearts: ya, he is as sweet and lovely as that. Then the denial part, come to think about it, it's quite possible. Though I think JC has come out of that already, returning to his invincible form.
Best of luck for JC tomorrow, go break a leg...and a whole lots of serves.

Hey - I was there for his match against Arthurs :D

After getting over his hair ;) - he played a pretty good match. One sloppy game in the 3rd set, made it go to the fourth, but either than that he was good.

He returned well, and served well - his passing shots were amazing.

He's played WAY better than in Toronto :)
