Return of serve/ not having weaknesses.

I'd say his Swiss Army variety.
Because he has so much variety, compared to the rest of the tour, he doesn't need to be the best at anything.

But if you must, I guess his forehand.

Couldn't agree more with Dr. Jules. Federer's return of serve is what separates him from everyone. Though not necessarily the most powerful, he returns anything and everything!

Easy. His forehand.

But aside from his forehand:

His footwork is impecable
His has great movement
He is able to play great defensively
He is great shotmaker
He has a very good first serve
He has an even better second serve
He has a very good return game
His backhand has a lot of variety
He has a decent volley
He has an uncanny ability to play well during big points
He is one of the most mentally tough players on tour
And is tactically the smartest player on tour

But again, his forehand is probably the best ever in tennis history, if not definitely one of.

Against the big servers, there is no question that his ROS does the biggest damage, it neutralizes their biggest weapons and leaves them in bad shape.
Otherwise I would say brainpower is his biggest weapon --he knows how to play each different player to make life bad for them :)

Damnit, I've had enough of the Federer worship threads. Okay, we know he's great, but there's no need to marvel at the very ground he walks on every time he wins a grand slam. Count how many threads have come out about him in the space of a day and you''ll see what I mean.

Except against Nadal at the '06 FO, where he decided to play 5 feet behind the baseline. What a brain fart that was.

Federer's strenght comes from combination of so many gifts. He almost has everything. And what shoked me the most when I was watching him for the first time in Wimbledon 2003 SF against Roddick was the return of serve.

Yes that unfortunately is correct. I should have qualified my statement with "under 100 degrees Fahreneit" and "without career slam on the line"

That his game isn't dependant on just one strength.

Probably the Sampras-like aura that surrounds him. Half his opponents give up before the match even starts

Adee when you grow older you might be able to understand what a true charisma is. But you'd have to crawl out of your hater's pit first I guess.

Reminds of the time when a player (I can't remember who) was asked when Wilander was at the top of game. The player was asked what Wilander's strength was, the player answered "His head." Same for Federer....

We're talking so much about him because of his charisma  :p
