Tactical Tiger?

It just occurred to me that perhaps Tiger Woods's presence in Federer's box was a little bit of a cunning tactical ploy to get some of the crowd on Roger's side? I was quite surprised to see him as I'd never heard his name mentioned around big tennis matches before. And you know how American sports fans worship Tiger.

I mean I'm sure Roger & Tiger may well be good friends, and obviously Tiger could get a seat in any VIP box he wanted anywhere in the world, but having seen how patriotic the crowd can be in some of the earlier matches of the tournament (Agassi, Blake).... perhaps someone clever in the Federer camp had the idea of inviting Tiger up there to show his support? (He also looked a bit bored when they showed him on TV during the match.)

Just a little bit of friendly neighbourhood conspiracy theory for you all :)

He looked like a gang banger??? How do gang bangers look??............oh, wait, he's dark colored, so if a dark colored person dresses in a T-Shirt and cap, he is a gang banger...........silly me

Being black is irrelevant. If a white, black, or Asian person dressed like that they would all look like a gang banger. The hat, the jeans, the shirt is the kind of thing you see worn by little trouble makers on the street, as well as gang bangers. Even here it is worn by all the little white street kids causing trouble in those troublesome areas. Why are you even bringing his race into it for Christ sake?

I do not root for Tiger or Roger because I don^t like to see one player totally dominate a sport. Both are fine men and great at what they do, but I prefer to see a Slam final when you are not sure as to who will win. Perhaps it was a management stunt to have Tiger in Roger^s box but I think it was a bit tacky, especially if Tiger and Roger were not friends.

That's the first time I've heard this BS. The most comfortable, everyday, wear is a combination of cap, jeans and shirt......for most Americans. On an average Sunday, go to the parks, base ball games, etc..........most guys would be dressed in a cap, jeans and shirt. ...............and Gang Banger is a term associated with minorities, so spare me your "race has nothing to do with this" crap. I've also seen most of the tennis players dressed like this, off court. Are they all gang bangers too? Cap, shirt and jeans is a favorite look for Andy, is he a gang banger??

Haha you have to be kidding me love. I have never in all my life seen a player dressed like that, at any tournament I have been to, any interview, or any show! Most players have more idea than that. There is a difference between a pair of jeans and a shirt anyway to; a baggy shirt like tiger was wearing, a cap worn backwards, and also his style of jeans. If americans dress like this, it is a very sad time if this is becoming the norm for an american man. I have seen 2 year old kids being dressed better.

Time to face facts mango and realise tiger has no style what so ever, and you should really stop trying to defend him just because he is in feds pocket. I have constantly heard about your ass licking of fed and defending anything remotely related to fed, but never came across your posts. Now I have had the delight to read it.

My issue with the post had to do with the use of the term "Gang Banger" It was very sterotypical.

Oh, and where exactly do people talk about my ass licking of Federer. Yes I like Federer and have never hidden that fact. If Tiger were sitting in Andy's box, and you had used the term "Gang Banger" to describe him, I would have had those issues too. Furthermore, Tiger's style doesn't interest me in the least. I am not even a fan of Tiger.

Here's a thought, why not try to understand why the use of the term, "gang banger" would be sterotypical in it's use to describe Tiger?? Instead of jumping on the defensive wagon and trying to attack my love for a player, try and understand why such a term would be extremely offensive to tiger.

Oh, and one more thing.........my world doesn't spin around Roger. So, if you had said, James Blake is dressed like a Gang Banger, I'd have found the statement to be just as sterotypical.

Tiger's outfit does not really qualify as gang wear since it is primarily white. Gang colors tend to be blue (Crips), red (Bloods), or sometimes green.

Besides Roger said that he was the one who invited Tiger over and Tiger agreed to show up only if he played the final.

Why does everything have to turn into some great big conspiracy? Yes, Tiger and Roger got in touch through IMG. Big deal. Tiger has said before that he's a huge tennis fan, watches it when ever he can and is a big fan of Roger's (was a fan of Pete too). They both dominate their sport and are often compared to each other. Not surprising they both admire each other. I highly doubt the crowd would've started cheering for Roger just because they saw Tiger Woods in his box.

I don't know how it works where you live but here in the states, Tiger can sit where ever he wants and nobody would view it as being some kind of insult to Roddick. Roger and Tiger are both repped by IMG and Nike, Tiger got an invite to sit in Roger's box, he accepted, what's the big deal?

both federer and woods are under img management. i think it was just a publicity stunt to increase rogers popularity in the states
The only post here that makes sense. Comparing Roger to Tiger is not only apt but also a shrewd marketing ploy to finally get Roger recognized by the "average people" who don't follow tennis. At least now they have a reference point. "Ah, that guy, the Tiger of tennis!" Silly, but could be effective.

Pretty effective. Both players would benefit from a friendship. And nike will win big from the ensuing commercials.

Instead of Tiger being in the box for some tactical reason could it be he just wanted to see a tennis match between two good players. There doesn't have to be a reason behind everything. According to radio reports here Tiger had never met Roger before and supposedly he had alot of admiration for him and the way he's carried himself both on and off the court and he wanted to meet him. That's about it and nothing more.

I don't think it should be a big deal, but it certainly seemed to irk andy to some extent. What was that he said in his post match interview? I'll have to look back, but I think it was something to the effect of "Tiger's a big boy, he'll make his own decisions". he would have come out and said "No big deal" if he really thought it was.

Fed and Tiger both suck! They both have very large egos and it was an affront to the United States when Tiger sat with the enemy. They both are publicity hounds. American tennis fans will no longer cheer for Tiger to win when he plays.

Nike Tennis took a hit when it's highest profile player (Agassi) switched to Adidas. So, Nike contract golf pro Tiger Woods showing up to watch Nike contract pro Federer was a contrived event to enhance Nike's profile. I'd wager if Federer had not made the final but Nike contract pros Nadal or Blake had, Tiger would have still been there promoting the all mighty "Swoosh".

I`m not trying to be rude mate but that`s a load of bullshit  ..Honestly Tiger Woods doesn`t let Nike tell him what to do-> actually it`s the reverse... Nike gets told by Tiger what he wants them to do for him :p ! Woods isn`t going to make the trip to New York & sit in the stands of Arthur Ashe stadium for a few hours if he doesn`t want to ;) . Tiger is somewhat of a lonely guy in that only he know`s what it feels like to be utterly dominant on the golf course. Of course he knows about Federer & he thinks to himself "hey there`s someone who`s being compared to me & maybe I should check him out.." . Then he gets Roger calling him up & saying "when can we meet...?" [since Federer`s always being asked Qs about the comparison]-> so Tiger looks at his busy schedule & decides if "I`m going to meet this guy I better make the journey worth my time...so I`d like to see some damn good tennis...hell yeah I want to see the US Open Final!!!...."
