It's impossible Federer will go through next year undefeated on all surfaces except clay and he will only lose cause of a bad umpiring decision.

Tommy Haas can on his day, as can Marat Safin

Well Tommy and Safin aren't exactly known for their consistency...

yeah and that's the problem : we need guys who can beat Federer on regular basis(and not only on clay) ,not once every 10 matches....

if you will have this guy than you would certainly look for another one in a very short time (like in 1 year). it's pretty hard to be at rogers level but be even higher though not impossible but would be even more boring prediction-wise that the current dominance of roger.

so let there be no other guy like this. let there be many that can challenge him once in while. but clearly there are only 3-4 guys of this level and most of them way inconsistent to set up matches against Federer.

Gasquet is really the only one with the game of the "next gen" players to be able to defeat Federer....he is after all seen to be the most talented of the youngsters, just give him time. After all see how Federer was at 20 years old, not as consistent as he is now! but he did beat Sampras when he was 19 so he's had the juice all the time

well Gasquet also beat Federer when he was 19....but to be fair it was in a MS,not in a GS(and not on Federer's best surface too) so hardly comparable with Fed's performance against Sampras

Nadal has beaten Fed 6 times, 2 times on hardcourt.
Berdych and Murray have defeated Fed on hc.

well except Federer's fans if you prefer ;)
i think a lot of people(possibly including Roger himself) would like to see in the future , players capable of giving Federer more trouble (not dominating him but at least capable of beating him 3 or 4 times out of 10 matchs)to make the tour a bit more interesting

You actually think that Roger wishes to be beaten by someone on a regular basis ?

That's funny again. Nadal could be 20-2 vs Fed it won't bore anybody, but when it comes to Fed it's always boooooooring... MTF and its load of crap

This is all too funny, everyone seems to think Fed's domination will last forever.

After 2004 I said he was not going to have another season like that, and he proved me wrong... But I'll say it again: Federer will never repeat 2006, I'd be glad if he could win the occasional Slam to increase his total, but this kind of domination can't last forever - cheer up - he'll be defeated by several players in the coming years.

Stop showing perspective. Then again you love going against the grain.

FedEx is head & shoulders above everyone else, and unless he gets a serious injury (w/c I sincerely hope  ), there's no consistent player to challenge him in hardcourts and grass, too. But I'm hoping Safin and Gasquet can put an end to Fed's reign. :)

Federer can still be the best player in the world next year but I would be very surprised if he dominates anything like as much as this year. By 2008 he will be a force but not a dominant one.

The youngsters should begin catching up with Roger from next year. I don't expect Roger to retain his hold on all three grand slams...............but, I will be happy if he does:lol:   I'll be happy if he can win RG in 07.

Didn't rafa beat him twice on hard courts (stop before you qualify the court with slow, extra slow, clay in disguise etc)? Blake, berdych, gasquet, safin, hrbaty ...

In 2007, I expect Nadal to put tremendous pressure on Roger on slower hard courts starting with the AO. Players may win against Roger on fast HC but not consistently. Beyond 2007, who knows?

Rafa will have to reach the final before he has a chance of facing Roger.
Nadal isn't invincible on hard courts, as we all witnessed this summer.

On slower HC he has a very good chance. If he is given time to set up his shots he becomes very dangerous. He still can't hit through the ball so he will struggle on fast HC.

Fed's forehand and serve will carry him for the next 4 years!!!I am hoping he breaks Connors's streak at number 1.The guy is a smart, as he gets older he will limit his schedule!!!!

You're talking about Roddick here. Federer's forehand, serve, backhand, volley, movement, mental strength will carry him for.....
