Well if nothing else, that will have jinxed it for him - is PMac *ever* right?

Wait... wasn't it PMac who picked Gael Monfils in the final before the tournament started?

If you asked Jimmy Connors who he would pick in the final, I am sure he's going to say Roddick too.

I think the question this thread should ask is if Roddick thinks he can win tomorrow.

Picking Andy based on what?

Wasn't that Wertheim?

No - he picked Ljubicic.

Equally baffling.

Except Pat McEnroe is supposed to be an expect commentator.

Dude he's the Davis Cup captain of course he's picking Roddick.

I am picking Roddick too...so I am 1/2 on my picks so far this tourney. Roddick in 5.

But he's also the U.S. Davis Cup coach. I'm pretty sure he knows it's a somewhat out-there prediction given the history.

Which did you predict wrongly.

I said Blake in 5 over Fed. :D

And well, that was closer than alot of people thought and that match could have easily gone Blakes way so I didn't feel too bad about it.

PMac said after New Haven final he believes Blake can make a positive surprise. They asked him - why would that be. He replied "c'mon, he's in my Davis Cup tem, I gotta believe in him"

Did PMac really say this or are ***tards starting rumors again?

PMac had picked both Andy and Roger for the USO finals but during Pilot Pen he went with Federer to win so I'm curious why he'd pick Andy all of a sudden.

Oh well.

Pat McEnroe is not an objective commentator. Anyway he is only a vastly inferior version of John McEnroe. I doubt it is fun comparing so unfavourably.

More importantly who did John McEnroe pick. He really knew how to play tennis unlike Pat who attempted to play tennis.

It's really tough for PMac. On one hand, he is supposed to be an objective criticiser, one that will inform the viewers with acccurate insights that they will be interested in, but at the same time he is also the US DC team coach, and he has to believe in his players and pump them up. In this case he chose to go with believing his player than objectively saying that Roger has the upper hand. I don't really blame him for making such a prediction, after all DC is coming up soon, and he has to have a good relationship with the players. He obviously weighed both sides and thought it's more important to give the players belief than to go with the general census that Roger is going to win.

I wouldn't expect him to say anything different. Yesterday JMac picked Roger and Mary Carillo said she hopes Roddick can win his second slam.

It was Chris Fowler who picked Monfils to make the finals.
PMac picked Roddick and Federer from the getgo, but always said Federer was the big favorite.

It's good to see him showing some belief and confidence in his DC player, but then why didn't he do that from the very beginning?
Maybe I would sympathize with him more if Andy played unbelivably well today.

Gee. Patrick McEnroe giving Andy Roddick a tongue bath. What a shocker.

Look. Of COURSE he's going to pick Andy. Because if Andy wins a slam then US tennis isn't the disaster everyone's been saying it is.

I swear just yesterday night he still had Federer as his pick. Now if he had picked Roddick all along I'd respect that, what fun is it to pick the obvious favorite? But if he really flip-flopped...LAME.

Pat just giving the viewers what they wanna hear.

bad gambler closed that 'andy too big comment' thread :( now where can us fedtards and ducks have our verbal fights to fill the time between the final.

Are you sure thats what he said? At the beginning of the Sharapova match he sounded as if he thought Federer was going to win saying he was playing really well and that Roddick would have to go for his shots and play well early because Fed is a great frontrunner. He did say at the beginning that he though Federer and Roddick would reach the final though, so maybe thats how the poster got mistaken.

PMac sure is giving false hope to ARod fans. Roger is the overwhelming favorite to win here, no doubt about that. But he's working it as DC capt, no surprise there.
