Everyone gets so sensitive when these things happen, especially from Roddick, who acts classy most of the time, if not all :p

Don't forget last year in Ciny, when he played Youhzny in the Qf's, Roddick was at the net, and Misha ripped one at his head, and Roddick had to duck out of the way. He wasn't too happy about that at the time.

Only reason you could hate Roddick is if you're narrow minded and purposely lock on to all the negatives and ignore the positives...oh wait, that's most of MTF!

This is tennis. As much as some people may want to believe it, it is not a "gentleman's game." Maybe it used to be, but with the intensity of the game building up throughout the years, not to mention the power and speed, bigger confidence-boosters like Roddick's "too big" are to be expected.

If anyone is so critical that they are to hate Roddick's remark, then start watching golf or cricket instead. If not, then hate Roger for being an ass to Nadal on court; hate Hewitt for his "c'mons" and open quips toward other players; hell, hate Michael Chang for winning the French Open. His "underhanded tactics" in the fourth round weren't all that sportsmanlike, were they?

Andy once again showed his true colours out there. He was really getting on my nerves when he complained throughout the match (especially when he held his serve at 3-3 in the fourth set). Roger's gonna shut him up tomorrow. :)
Or Andy'll shut you up. Whichever situation you despise the most. ;)

I have nothing against Andy. The thing is, that a player can pump himself up without trash talking against his opponents. Andy is a nice guy off the court, but I am not a fan of his on-court behaviour.

**will probably soon retire from this thread, accepting that I might have over-reacted A BIT. That "too big" ALONE probably wasn't enough to warrant one to call Roddick a brat (although combined with other things it might just as well, which is why i wouldn't judge most people criticizing Roddick in this thread).**

I love how people go up in flames over the littlest things. It's in the spirit of competition out there, not everyone's going to be saying the right things all the time. If this is the biggest problem people have with the players, I think tennis is in pretty good shape compared to other sports.

Hey I don't like Federer, believe me, but I think people are more lenient towards Roger because he isn't really arrogant usually. Maybe sometimes he would say some questionable things and when he does say comments like ''I like playing him and not just because I win'' I think he was kidding.

I have NEVER picked on Roger for what he's done during a match. Nor will I ever. I figure that ESPECIALLY when you're in a tight match, you need to do whatever you can (short of cheating) to keep yourself in the match. I am not a person to complain about Lleyton's "come ons" or Safin's racquet smashing.

So kindly don't pretend to know what I would or wouldn't say.

Since I don't intend to turn this thread into a "Roger is SO humble and everyone who doesn't think so is retarded", I'll leave it at that.

If you went back and looked at what I've said about Roger, I think you would find me extremely complimentary of his tennis and his looks. And it would only be hypocritical if I'd complained about something Roger said or did during a match. I never have.

Yea that was dick comment by Roddick. maybe that's what Selena Roberts (read the NY Times thread) was alluding to, letting some of Connor's more "charming" traits merge into his own personality. Say what you will about Roddick before but I've never seen him talk that kind of trash (other than at the Belgian Davis Cup coach a year ago)

ohh nooo how dare Roddick does that?!!!!!!!!!
*shock face* :o :o :o :o
i mean pumping himself up on a match!!!!!!
creating some competitive rivalry!!
ohh this is unbelievable!! he obviously doesnt have any respect for his opponent!
he should stay quiet, put himself down, and praise his opponents game, over and over again and say how much he likes them and how its all fairytale like, hugs and love behind close doors

Im glad 2 see there was some rivalry on court, both players fighting each point, celebrating amazing shots (at times), stare at each other when walking pass or after winning a game or an important point!
Big Mac once said something like, before we used to go on court and it was like war, it's like u created some sort of dislike for ur opponent and use that to turn ur game on, this had nothing to do with respect it just brought some excitment to it all.
