Yeah Marcos is just soo much fun to watch...he really brings you into the match. He's just a bundle of charisma and natural talent...just a little rough around the edges that hopefully can be ironed out. But just a little bit....we don't want to take away the things that make him so good...but a little more consistently wouldn't hurt... ;)

09-17-2006, 03:37 PM
From the ATP site:

Baghdatis: "It's my first title, it's a great moment and I'm really happy about that, especially playing a great match today.

"I didn't let him play. I made a lot of return and put pressure on him. It was one of my best matches.

"Of course I would love to come back to China for the (Tennis) Masters Cup in Shanghai. That is a dream for me. I have made progress this week but I need to stay calm and focused in order to win matches and earn points for Shanghai. I really want to go but don't want to put too much pressure on myself."

Ancic: "This was an unbelievable week for me. Every match for me was like a final. I played five matches singles and four matches doubles, but I'm very proud of myself as it's not easy after not playing for 2 1/2 months.

"Marcos is an unbelievable player, a Top 10 player. In the second set he stepped up.

"I'll just work hard next week, I'll go early to Mumbai to prepare. Playing nine matches was something I was really looking for."

Marco's interview after his win from the china open site,if you haven't read that already :) :

Comment: It was a great match. Iím very happy about the result. It was my first title. I felt great about the game. It was great emotion and experience for me here in Beijing.

Q: Who did you call after you won the game?

A: I called my father, but he was busy. So he asked me to call me back later.

Q: Can you talk about your opponent a little bit?

A: Ancic was not at his best form. I played great and didnít give him the chance to come up again. It was a great job on my side. :) :yeah:

Q: It is interesting that the champion of China Open has the chance to win a Grand Slam title the next year, for example, Nadal won the French Open and Safin won the Australian Open. So if you have the chance to win a Grand Slam, which one would you like to be the first?

A: Any one, and any where there is chance.

Q: You are the first Cyprus player who won an ATP title. How do you feel about being a national hero? :rocker:

A: It was great for a lot of people there, my family, my Davis Cup team and coach. I want to give this title to them. Itís very important for me and I want them to know that they will always in my heart. :awww: :smooch:

Q: Do you have any celebration plan after you go back to the hotel. Will you go sight-seeing in Beijing tomorrow?

A: The celebration will be the football match between Manchester United and Arsenal, :spit: and maybe some beers as well. Perhaps tomorrow I will go sight-seeing and go shopping. And then on Tuesday, I will go to the Cyprusí Ambassadorís house for lunch.

Q: You were at about the 80 in the ATP ranking, but this year youíve been in the final and semi-final of the Grand Slam and won one title as well. What do you think have brought you to all this?

A: It was a lot of time since then. I played very hard these years. And I always knew what I wanted. I found my way through and it was great experience for me. I have a great year and couldnít imagine for a better one. I want to thank my family and other people sacrificing for me, and I also want to thank God for giving me the chance to play and being healthy.

Q: Can you predict the Ancicís doubles?

A: I donít know. I never play doubles; Iím not an expert for doubles. Ancic can serve well and Bubadi is also a good player. I hope it will be a good game for the spectators.

Q: Do you think you can go to Shanghai?

A: My chances are good after winning the title here. I still have a long way to go. I hope I can win more titles, and come back to China later for the Mastersí Cup. It is always my dream to play the Mastersí Cup. I will try to be calm and focus on my games. :worship:

Q: What do you think of hawk eye technology?

A: I like it, though I never won it. Itís good for players to make sure of the ball, so if we are wrong, we can shut up and go back to play tennis. :haha:

Q: You are very popular here in China, especially after you won the Australian Open. Can you say something to your fans here?

A: Thank you very much for supporting me the whole week. It is a great week here in China Open. There were people coming to cheer for me every day, not only in games, but also in my practice. Itís important for players when their fans show their love and support. :bigclap:

Q: I saw that you kissed the chain several times after you won the game. Is there any special meaning?

A: My older brother gave this to me when I was 13. It was very important for me. He wanted to be a tennis player, but he had a car accident. I try to do good for him as well. Every time I win the game, I will thank God for giving me the chance to play. And my brother also gave me the power to play. :awww: :worship:

Maybe we should keep and for Thailand,no??? ;) :bounce: Heheheh..;p

Why not, and then Tokyo!

09-19-2006, 10:00 PM

It seems that the Thai open will not take place afterall..

Let's hope for peace in Thailand..even if the tourny doesn't take place....

But it would be real good if Marcos could somehow get a wildcard for Mumbai..I mean..if the tourny is officially cancelled..why couldnt players ask for wildcards??

Recent events in Thailand over the past 24 hours have raised questions about the ATP Thailand Open, due to commence September 23, 2006.

We would like to announce that the Thailand Open will go ahead as scheduled. As proclaimed by the military itself, the coup which took place on the night of Tuesday September 19 is a temporary measure in the lead-up to government elections in an effort to restore democracy.

The military has stressed that it is only an interim administration set up to ensure free and fair elections in November.

The Thailand Open organizing committee assures players, officials and visitors that Thailand remains a safe and peaceful country, and we warmly welcome you.

We will continue to keep you informed of any developments, and we look forward to seeing you at the event.

ATP Thailand Open Organizing Committee

The Thai open will go on as sheduled.
Marcos was one of the first to arrive..let's hope he will be safe.

And Peace to Thailand.

We all hope for this
