What if Sharapova AND Roddick win the USO?

:) Everyone knows I like Andy, but Pova is definitely #1 on my "Who to root against" list. I think the USTA, WTA, and ATP would go crazy if their cover boy and girl won this year. Maybe then, they'd live up to the hype following their repspective GS wins. Andy maybe Andy might get some respect.

I won't be very happy on either count, because I can't stand Sharapova and it would be Federer was beaten.

It would be a disaster and the sky would fall in and the earth would boil into space. We must not let that happen.

Andy Roddick has a good chance, but I expect Maria to lose to Justine despite Justine carrying injuries as she is so determined and will give everything; I think the Australian Open was not like Justine at all and she must of been in a terrible condition to concede so easily.

They will be looking at their trophies when they are bonking and then Roddick will say "oh! Pong".

:haha: Good one!

If they both win, I think the press would have lots to talk about the next few days, and there would be speculation and all that sh*t. Fine w/ me, as long as Andy wins.

If they both win, I think that there is a chance that they could make the cover of Sports Illustrated since SI lurves Sharpie and there would be the whole "Amercian tennis is back!" thing. However, if the Texas/Ohio State game today is a doozy (they are the #1 and #2 ranked college football teams) or if there is fantastic game tommorow during the first Sunday of pro-football, either of those could be on the cover instead.

You stole my line, Clara! SI has always dissed tennis big time. When was the last time a tennis star was on the cover? I was furious Pete didn't make the cover after winning his 7th Wimbledon. Some guy for the Oakland A's on the cover. I can't remember if it was Giambi.

Do they have a champions ball or anything? Would they take pics together?

That would be two upsets though...I'm hoping for both.

Are there 25 hours in a day?...No
Will Roddick win US Open?..hmm...No.

She still looks like roadrunner compared to Mary Pierce.

At least less than Rafa  I think she takes nearly always the same time to serve, always do the same execution... jumping and bouncing the ball with racquet, fix hair back to the ears, bounce the ball two times, and then her serve action. :p

I liek sharapova and im impressed by her hard work and bla bla but i feel shes taking advantage of her fame. Its geting too much. As for roddick, same thing but not to the same extent. i dont know who im rooting for. I was rooting for sharapova coz i cant stnd jstine but at the same time, this is prolly one of andys few chances to get to a GS final but i also want federer to make hisotry and win 3 USO's ina row! :D

Come on Rogiman you're being to harsh... I'm no fan of Sharapova but there was nothing plasitc about her joy at finally winning a GS title again and she deserved to win, she played great against a tough opponent. Who knew she had a net game.

Yesterday was the ultimate death of the WTA-Tour. I can't believe that Justine lost to this one dimensional little girl. The worst thing is that Maria S. has won 2 Grand Slams tournaments while Gabriela Sabattini won only one. :sobbing:

Hasn't Sharapova lived most of her life in the US?

Why does her English suffer so much? She sounds like she just moved in.

I think she speaks very well. She has an accent, but lots of people who move here when they are children have an accent. Henry Kissinger came to the U.S. when he was 7 years old and his accent was frightfully thick. To me, Sharapova seems to be almost totally fluent in English.

How cruel, Sharapova deserved to win, she played great. She might be a slut or plastic in your minds, but you have to admit she's a good player, same as Roddick he might have a bit of arrogance (much like Federer but apparently you guys don't see that) but he's just as talented. Even I admit that Federer is talented even though I despise him.

I agree. I think Sharpie's accent is faily slight. Some folks just keep their accents longer than others. For example, Tursunov and Haas have both lived in the US since they were around 12. And even though Tommy lived in the US longer since he is older, his German accent is still pretty thick wheras Tursunov has a very slight accent that you can only hear sometimes on certain words.

I agree that Sharpie deserved to win, so kudos to her. And even though JHH is not usually thought as the most gracious player out there, I thought she was very gracious in defeat and in her press conference.

Well- we are halfway through finding out the potential answer to the question that is the subject of this thread.

No, Andy could beat Federer every single time they meet from now on and he wouldn't get any respect from some people. They'd say it was caused by Fed having a microscopic bit of fungus under his toenail or something.

As for Maria, she can play excellent tennis. I dislike her for reasons unrelated to her tennis, but I have to give her kudos for her on-court skills.
