He is number one alternate on the list to Shanghai and he has never played it before.
It will be excellent for him to get into the Master Cup. If he wins the next match, he will become top 10.

Tommy Haas now sits at #13, highest ranking since January 2003.
He can still qualify for TMC.

he is in a kind of slump atm, hope he can get out of it and qualify for the masters

Tommy Rocks!!! Really hope he qualifies properly and not as an alternative. He deserves it, but he needs to have a good 3 weeks now. Last week was a bad start, hope he finds some good form again, he's been in a bit of a slump lately, apart from the US Open. Go Tommy!!!

Currently, the top 7 + Baghdatis make up the 8-man field.

Haas is 3rd alternate going into Madrid

I doubt he'll make it. Hes been playing quite shit since the US Open. He made it in 2001 but Goran took his spot cause of his Wimbledon Title.

Are you sure about that?
I think a Slam champion (not runner-up), outside top 8 but inside top 20 makes a cut.

Yep. Only champions.

Even though Haas has theoretical chances, it looks very unlikely that he will qualify.

Is that the 3rd or 4th time that you're posting that? :D Am I missing some kind of running gag? ;)

Haas, I dont know what I should think of him. Normally Indoor should suit him, shouldnt it?

Maybe she just likes Baghdatis better. But Tommy Hass can still qualify and I want him to play once cuz he deserves it.

It is Haas actually, not Hass. Seems to be a common mistake here, I have seen that quite a few times.
Hass means in hate in german. So Haas would be alot nicer;)

It is not as far as people think though.

well Tommy didn't win in Madrid, he won the tourney when it still was in Stuttgart... too bad it moved to Madrid :( they should have let the tourney in Stuttgart and if the would like to take one of Germany away, they could have taken the one in Hamburg... then the spanish would have much more fun with their own players on this nasty clay

hopefully he is going to qualify. on the one hand he had a good year with a couple tourney wins, on the other hand he could have done better during the grass season for example. In Shanghai he could prove that he's better than many players who are higher in the rankings.

Yes, he would have to win this TMS "again" as he did in 2002, or else.
And on 09-09 he was #1 on the alternate list...:). to the surprise of many.

Tommy really blew it at the US Open. That was his chance at both the top 10 and the Masters. I hope he makes it, but it's really unlikely at this point.

I think Tommy will not win and not qualifying. Not consistent good enough at the moment. He will not beat Nadal, I'm sorry  but I forgiving Nadal this if he win the tournament then :)

according to atptennis.com, Tommy Haas is going to play in St. Petersburg this year and not in Basel. This is good for him because he won't have Federer and Nadal in his draw... even though all the Russians are in his way, his chances are pretty good imo.
