Great work and solid from James

Tomas - utterly useless today

Wasted 15...count 'em! 15 break points

How did Berdych let 15 BP's go by without breaking once.

Worst ATP match I've seen at the US Open this year. I don't believe Berdych was ever mentally there.

James :yeah:

Berdych lost his temper with the umpire, and then stopped thinking. He let Blake dictate the pace, Blake plays fast.

Well done to Blake. Terrible performance from Berdych. He really should be ashamed with himself.

I was flicking between 2 channels.

In one match a player was very intense, competative, giving everything, getting really excited and hanging in the match - Nadal.

In the other a player looked not interested, mentally fragile, pathetic and could not care less - Berdych.

Now which attitude is better!

James was good, but not all that great. This was no where near what he did to Rafa last year or to Almagro at Roland Garros this year.

0-15 on BP's is almost impossible. 0-15 against a guy like Blake is even more incredible.

Well done by James though to get back to the QF's. He had been playing pretty poorly coming in but he has now defended all of his points. He will need the match of his life to challenge Federer tommorrow night.

Yes - very well done to James for defending his QF points - given his poor run since winning Indianapolis that's quite impressive.

Berdych looked done in this match, by Blake's play and by tiredness. He got outplayed almost entirely from the beginning to the end and at some points he made some errors he usually does not commit.

Terrible, terrible stuff from Tomas today. This is Tomas, though. Sometimes he shows up, sometimes he doesn't.

Berdman that was a performance par excellence and the local commentator was giving Blake crap for showboating in that last game.

Seems like Berdych is having problems getting past the 4th round of Slams at the moment.

A pity, I haven't seen much of them but Tomas would probably have been a bigger challenge to Fed. Good for the home crowd though.

Blake IS a very talented player, he HAS the game to seriously complicate Federer, but he ends up choking every time, however, given his age and his current skill level, I don't see him improving his tennis much more, thus, if he wants a slam, its now or never. Good win over Berdych though.

Blake was plenty good but there's no doubt he benefitted by some fairly useless Berdych play - wasting 15 break points is just criminal.

Berdych's game seems well suited to the faster courts of the US Open but is his personality a good match for the event?

As for Blake this is the one event he might win if everything comes together in his favour. Now he just needs Federer to retire injured in their match, and perhaps Misha to beat Roddick and he might have a chance.

I've seen only the match point. Was it Berych so useless or James so brilliant?

i could watch the shakehand between Blake and Berdych... very cold. Then I read this in the media.

Blake beat the dangerous Tomas Berdych yesterday in straights. Part of that had to do with Blake's penetrating strokes and part of it had to do with the fact that Berdych couldn't find the court with his. And what's up with the J-Block? Those fans were an absolute embarrassment yesterday , a bunch of goons yelling from the rafters. Nearby spectators asked the J-Block to keep it down, to which they responded with more shouts, including the now classic "man-size" after Blake smoked a serve. As a fellow citizen of Fairfield, Conn., I cringed. Blake's a classy guy :) ; his crew is not. :(

I understand Berdych

What/Who is the J-Block? Does he know these people personally...do they follow him around everywhere?

I wouldn't count on it...

James Blake: "I've been the favorite in every match so far. Now it'll be fun being the underdog and having the fans maybe be even more on my side. I don't have any pressure."

coming back to Berdych, from time to time on Eurosport during the match of Nadal/Youzhny, it was really painful to see....

awww poor Berdych

I couldn't watch the match but I have seen Berdych play before and recently I saw him beat Nadal in Toronto. I know Berdych has to work on consistancy but I wish he had played better and I hope he does in the future.

As for Blake, I like him and I'm happy he won but I can't stand those fans of his

Because you're getting erroneous information from people like MJB who hate Blake and like to spread false rumors about him.

The J-Block is made up mostly of Blake's friends from his college days.

They are still assholes....makes sense since Harvard's full of them.
