Congrats, Tommy, though I don't think you have a shot at the final.

Marat,, it was a good run compared to the rest of your season. Here's hoping it continues to improve.

Great match but I don't like this business of 1 point deciding a three hour match when it's that close.

They both held serve easily in that final set - much prefer the advantage 5th set when you have to get the break to get the win.

You should have won that tb! :crying2:

But great effort to get this far. Could have gone either way. Hopefully he takes a lot of positive things from this Open and does well in Davis Cup and the indoor season. Stay injury-free and healthy Marat and try to go for the AO!

I agree, Its not very fair on the other player. Poor Marat I think he would have really troubled Fed.....if he'd have been in a good mood on the day ;)

It is a stupid decision. No other way to put it. You toil for three hours on the court then you make one mistake and you are out. Idiotic.

I second that.
That's where you obviously saw that he's not there yet. He made some weird choices, more UE. He just wasn't as confident as in the previous sets, whereas he was leading on the scoreboard.
It's still more than I expected so good job marat :)

Good luck to Nikolay tomorrow. He will obviously be the fresher player

Also, I'm not one to bash players or anything, but Haas attitude on court is so... aggressive. I had seen him play before, and it always amazes me how rude he is to the people who work on the court (ball boys and girls...), and how aggressive and violent he can be. Of course, he doesn't hit anybody, but still, he looked crazy to me. And that's a marat supporter talking!

I think I'm the main moaner about the 5th set tiebreak and I was neutral on the result because I like both, and actually Haas is in my Fantasy Tennis team so his win is actually better for me, if anything.

I like Safin, but this match does so that he's hugely overrated. He's not a serious force on the tour and he shouldn't be treated like one

09-06-2006, 07:38 PM
Couldn't see the entire match but what I saw was still entertaining.

In the second set at his own serve game, Marat simply went AWOL. 0-15, 0-30, 0-40. With all respect to Haas but Safin simply gave that particular game away.
Camera zoomed in on Marat's trainer regularly who kept shrugging his shoulders and at 0-40 he gave a visible and big *sigh*. LOL...I think that a lot of Safin fans sighed with him.

And in the 5th set, a Tommy Haas fan who kept shouting to Tommy to CONCENTRATE.

Both fan sections of the two players were praying that their favorite would keep his head screwed on the right way, so it seems.

:)

The tie-breaks are both fascinating to watch and utterly frustrating but certainly the one in a 5 set match.

Safin had some great matches!
Congrats to Haas!

Tommy :woohoo: I guess he is getting back into those 5 Set Matches now
:yippee: But I agree Nikolay will be the player who is much more rested tomorrow. At the end here in the Open it has been tough on me because I like so many of the players that are playing against each other, but someone has to get defeated

Donny

Bah, I like the 5th set tiebreaker. The guys are at 2 set apiece, meaning that they, you know, TIED. Let a balls-out tiebreaker decide the dang thing. Purests like the endless battle, but it ain't healthy to the sport overall ... matches have to have a decent estimation of an end for spectators and TV and such.

Crap, wtf, damned rambling from me. Meant to just pop in and say "great match, guys, congrats Haas!"
