That was a truely pathetic attempt today - He didnt even look like he was bothered in the slightest.

Someone needs the kid a proper talking to before he wastes all that talent - We dont care if he loses but not to put his heart into it was crazy. He was out of breath in 10 mins!

Good job Micky Mouse man :yeah:

Even in a match like this for Murray you can see his talent and his great defensive skills but it's isn't understandable his defensive attitude through the whole match  because he has also the weapons to attack .

Andy seems unsure of exactly how to beat Kolya. The match all round was a carbon copy of the match in IW.

Kolya actually produced good shotmaking throughout, and looked like a top 10 player. He seems like a slightly more flashy version of Hewitt.

Isn't it a bit early to be panicking that it's not working out with Brad?

Seriously?

That was a 6-0 set but 4 of those games went to deuce and Murray had points to hold and to break - he just didn't play the big points well, and Davydenko did.

Davydenko is a solid and unflashy player who is very hard to hit through - he's got the type of game I can see would give Murray trouble because he doesn't get wound up easily and he doesn't get shaken off his stride easily - and that's what Murray often does to his opponents. Murray didn't find a way to make Davydenko uncomfortable and that's what he needs to work on.

He still posted good wins against his first three opponents and he should look on this US Open as a step in the right direction, but he needs to watch the tape of that Kolya match and see how much he let Davydenko totally dictate the terms and conditions of that match.

I was watching the whole match thinking the exact same thing - it was a carbon copy of their Indian Wells match.

Andy did not find any answers from the first match to use in the second and the script was identical.

I agree he was smiling and talking all the way through - I am begining to think he believes he will rise to no1 without putting the hard work and determination in. I see the problem more with his psyche than Brad and his being a perfectionist is turning him into an over thinker

Yep he played very well - The only times he looked ruffled was when andy tried to break his rhythm. His rallies were so consistent though he has the power advantage of the two at this time

All he did today was mutter sarcastic comments aimed at Gilbert. It was fucking stupid and petulent. I'm gutted, this match was there for the taking and he blew it because of his attitude. Even yesterday, his little comments were so unnecessary, just get on with the game :retard:

Compare it to all the others and it's crystal clear he deserves at least the #5 spot.
Everyone complains about him being a Mickey Mouse player but his Slam results are definitely top 5 (in an era where 2.5 players make it consistently to Slam SF's).

Yep I recognise that and if he plays like he can + puts the effort in I couldnt care less if he won the match or not.

Nevermind he will be back and a lot stronger by aussie open - He only has to do well in one of the 2 masters to consolidate his points and gain a good seeding. Then next year he really only has san jose to defend before wimbledon so that will be the time to kick on

He hasn't been around Brad Gilbert's mental regime long enough to be up at the crack of dawn eating muesli and jogging through boggy fields.

We should keep in mind he and Brad linked up at Washington and they have had just one week off together to try and do any work, and that week Murray was so exhausted from 14 matches in 17 days there wasn't much they could do then.

I'm looking forward to the two of them having a couple of weeks not playing to get down to work on the off-court stuff.

Well, I'm basing it on the fact that Davydenko was twice beaten by Safin when he was just coming back from his injury. I saw the first match they played in Dubai and Safin's power was just too much.
Only time Davy and Haas have played Davydenko bageled him twice in 3 sets. Of course that was on clay...

Btw: I think he is the favourite to beat each of them, but with Haas I imagine it easier for him.

Ugh, Andy just didn't bring it today. I can understand hitting down the middle, but for god's sake, hit it a little deeper. Kolya's going to eat that short ball up every time and as good as Andy may be at defense, he can't run around all day retrieving shots and waiting for the error. That just plays perfectly into Davydenko's hands.

Though I must say that was the closest 6-0 set I have seen. A point or two turned around in those critical first few games and Andy could even have won the set.

Overall not an unexpected result. Well done to Nikolay, he's definitely made the most of his draw.

No surprise here, davy destroyed him during the 1st set, and played really well. Davy played like shit during the 2nd/3rd and was very lucky to win the 3rd set. Normal service resumed during the 4th, and the little twirp got a beating!

I was sure davy would be a very tough opponent for andy, and thought davy would win. Davy makes you work so hard, and does hit alot of pace too and also can hit winners. I feel that murray doesnt have the game to blow davydenko off the court, and at this stage murray is not going to beat a player like davydenko in a 5 set match. Its just too much of a task for him, and his weak mind.

It was interesting to see murray after the match try and put a lower importance on it, and say it has been a great year, blah blah. Man, its a grandslam match and you have not performed that well in the slams, so it is of the biggest importance (and hes talking about, I dont want people to start talking about negatives). What positives are there about beating one very good player like gonzo? and two challenger jokers.

Today was disappointing but his hard court season has been great imo

I think injury permitting we see a much fitter tougher murray in january and I wouldnt be suprised to see him reverse this result should they meet again in a years time

This Brad thing doesn't seem to be working out.

Doesn't seem to be working out? His improvement and progress this summer have still been remarkable. Just because he had one 4-set loss to a better player doesn't mean his coach is no good and the situation isn't working. This was expected. And Andy M. still has much to be proud of.

Good for Nikolay. If Andy, Richard, Tomas, Novak, and all the youngsters are so much better than Nikolay, why does he crush them and consistently out-perform them when it matters? Hmmmmm... time for Nikolay to get the respect he deserves! Watch him crush Haas in the next round. Anyone remember the 5-0-0 2005 French Open scoreline? :D
