Ugliest Forehands?

My vote goes to Roddick. For all his vaunted power, it has trouble deciding between a deep, flat shot like Blake's or a heavy topsin like Nadal. So, it finds itself in the middle w/o the advantage of either.
For the pure look of it, he lets the ball get too close and so has to windshield wipe it for it to go over (and thus the lack of depth and power.)

Incidentally, it's a washout now at the USO so I'm forced to watch Sharapova's equally ugly reverse over-the-same-shoulder forehand where she, too, lets the ball get too close so has to finish it over her head/shoulder. And her forehand comes with grunting

They're a great couple after all

Gaudio's comes to mind, but he makes up for it with that incredible backhand

mmm.. We talk about the same Roddick

For, the ugliest of the forehands of ATP tour is Stepanek. (at least top 30)

This will raise some ire but I'm going to suggest Safin.

I don't know if his forehand has changed, but watching it against Nalbandian, it seems to be a very wristy shot - he seems to put a huge amount of work on the ball for the amount that actually results - it's erratic, prone to sailing very long or not having the pace he seems to be trying to put on it.

Maybe soderling and his wierd sidewinders? Or maybe santoro, gambill. I cant stand two handed forehands, looks very ugly.

Monfils, way too long and loopy. If he shortens it up he can stand closer to that baseline rather than being 8ft behind it.

Sluiter... very hard to watch.

Sam Querrey has an enourmous fh; he pulls his elbow tight to his body. It looks wierd.

Berasatagui. You wanted to send him to a chiropractor.

It's probably not a bad shot by any means but Gasquet's forehand just looks ugly to me.

Magnus Gustafsson's forehand was very ugly and funny.Edberg used to make fun of it.. but of course it was one of the most effective forehands ever.

Aw Safins can't be that bad... with his swing i think he shoudl be Eastern griping it rather than Semi western. Well he's bringing sexy back(hand) so i guess that makes up for it.

I think Gasquet's forehand is wonderful. I love watching him hit both his forehand and (especially) backhand. But that jumping he does and sometimes falling back on his heels when hitting the forehand is what tires him out in best of 5 set matches imo.

I wouldn't call Nadal's beautiful.

Edberg has no right to make fun of ugly forehands.

I caused some rise in the Safin section of the forum when i started complaining about what some of Marat's forehands look like lately. Sort of what the person who started the thread described in relation to Roddick.

Pity.

i think that Richard's forehand is generally good to watch and very efficient.....when he is not stepping back!! :tape:
that jumping he does hitting his forehand when he is moving back is really awful to watch....and also not very efficient generally (there is nearly no strenght in this forehand when he does that)

But the weird thing is he can hit an excellent attacking forehand stepping forward into the ball when he wants to so I don't know why he doesn't always do it  Anyway I don't think his forehand belongs to this list ;)

i like richards forehand but i hate his technique. He start with his racket up like hes holding a sign. Nadals forehand might not be the one id teach my kids but its efficient on all surfaces besides grass
